0:19
like and follow us Today we're going to
0:21
talk
0:22
about God's unconditional love You know
0:27
John 3:16 is 25 words of the most
0:30
picture perfect example of God's love
0:33
for people It says "For God so loved the
0:35
world that he gave his only begotten son
0:38
that whosoever should believe in him
0:40
should not perish but have everlasting
0:42
life." And it tells us that God loved us
0:45
when we were unlovable It tells us that
0:51
um he loved us even when we didn't love
0:54
him and that he gave for us before we
0:58
knew anything about him And in the uh
1:01
John's in the first
1:03
John 4 11 and 12 it says "Beloved if God
1:07
so loved us we ought also to love one
1:10
another No man has seen God at any time
1:13
If we love one another God dwelleth in
1:16
us and his love is perfected in us And
1:19
it's really
1:21
important especially in
1:24
uh a Christian's life to learn how to
1:26
walk in love according to the way Christ
1:29
loved us Um as human beings we have a
1:33
hard time
1:35
uh distinguishing that if somebody does
1:38
us bad then we we carry grudges and hard
1:41
feelings and we want to do something
1:43
back towards them And in reality what we
1:48
should be doing is we should be loving
1:51
them the same way Jesus did us He said
1:54
to love your enemies to uh pray for
1:57
those that use you And um it's really
2:02
hard sometimes for us to wrap our mind
2:04
around the concept of loving someone who
2:08
doesn't love us
2:09
back And so we get into these places uh
2:14
where it causes a problem for us because
2:17
we try to love according to the world's
2:20
love rather than according to God's love
2:22
And God's love is
2:25
so expansive that we can't really wrap
2:29
our mind around how much God loves us
2:33
And the reason I say that is because we
2:36
equate that
2:39
with whether or not when we extend love
2:43
it's extended back to
2:45
us And Jesus said that you have to love
2:49
even if they don't extend it back to you
2:52
And that's that's the hard part because
2:56
we will within our own thoughts our own
2:59
minds we'll think well why should I love
3:01
this person you know if they don't love
3:04
me and what Jesus said was you have to
3:07
love them anyway Paul the Apostle Paul
3:10
said you get unto all
3:13
men especially those of the household of
3:16
faith He also said to live at peace with
3:18
all men as much as you are able So we
3:22
have a
3:25
responsibility to
3:27
Christ to
3:29
present Christ as he is We have to
3:33
present his love And it's it can be
3:36
difficult because there's some people
3:38
out there that we would say are
3:39
unlovable There are people out there
3:41
that no matter how well you treat them
3:45
uh they don't they don't respond in kind
3:49
And we we have a hard time with that And
3:52
it takes a while and it takes a lot of
3:54
work and it takes a lot of prayer to
3:57
love people even when they don't love
4:00
you And
4:02
people we we all have an we all have a
4:05
built-in need to be loved And we we find
4:09
it very hard to love uh without
4:14
reciprocation And if you're going to
4:17
serve Christ if you're going to be who
4:20
Christ said you need to be then you have
4:22
to learn how to love the
4:24
unlovable Uh it's the same same concept
4:28
when it comes to dealing with people
4:30
that are homeless or haven't
4:34
uh have no relationship with Christ or
4:38
the addict or the prostitute or any of
4:40
these other things is in the state
4:43
they're in
4:45
In the eyes of the world they're
4:47
unlovable They're people that uh don't
4:50
deserve our attention or us reaching out
4:54
to them And according to God's word
4:57
that's not true According to God's word
5:01
we have to love them anyway
5:04
We have to give them every
5:07
opportunity to have a relationship with
5:11
Christ not based on what they do but
5:15
based on what he did And that's that can
5:19
be difficult at times for us because we
5:21
want them to act a certain way to be a
5:24
certain way to
5:27
to respond in a certain way And Jesus
5:31
didn't make that
5:34
distinction He says that we we love him
5:39
because he first loved us And we can't
5:42
get away from that
5:44
fact None of us were lovable None of us
5:47
were uh had anything good about us It
5:50
says all have sinned and come short of
5:52
the glory of God
5:57
And we have to keep in mind that
6:02
when we came to our knowledge in Christ
6:06
we were unlovable
6:08
too And it's difficult at times You know
6:12
you have people that do do things that
6:16
uh I try not to use this word but they
6:18
do stupid things and the stupid things
6:21
they do
6:23
uh can be very hard to deal with when
6:25
you have people that you're investing in
6:29
of yourself You're putting time into
6:31
them You're trying to build a a godly
6:33
relationship with them and they
6:35
continually over and over and over
6:37
reject it or they come to you with the
6:42
uh attitude of you owe me
6:45
Um
6:49
and J God didn't owe us anything but he
6:54
came and loved us anyway He came and
6:56
died for us
6:58
anyway And that should tell you just how
7:03
great God's love is Um John 3:16
7:07
explains it so well and and is what we
7:11
need to look at Um Matthew 7:12 it says
7:15
"Do unto others as you would have them
7:19
do unto you." And that's a hard concept
7:22
because people treat people bad Uh
7:25
people do things that are horrific and
7:28
and crazy
7:30
and and we say "Well you know why do I
7:34
have to try to reach them why do I have
7:38
to love them why do I have to do all
7:39
these things?" Well because Christ did
7:42
it
7:43
first He came first to love us to show
7:47
us the way And we have to do likewise in
7:52
return We have to let people see the
7:56
love of God that's within us because
7:58
that's our reasonable service to him
8:01
It's often difficult
8:03
uh takes a lot of prayer takes a lot of
8:06
time uh spending time in God's word
8:11
because the more you get Christ's word
8:14
into you the more you become like him
8:18
And that's what being a Christian is
8:20
That
8:21
word means Christlike And we should
8:25
focus on things like are the things I'm
8:30
doing showing other people Jesus or are
8:34
they showing me and my own selfish
8:36
nature And so it's really
8:39
important that as you go through
8:42
life and you're walking your Christian
8:46
walk and you may be new to a life in
8:49
Christ and you really don't know what
8:51
what to do
8:53
uh is to learn how to love like Christ
8:55
loves Uh I always have people ask me
8:58
when they first get saved well you know
9:00
now that I'm saved and and I know I need
9:02
to read the Bible where should I start
9:05
and I always tell them start in the in
9:07
the Gospel of John It's the Gospel of
9:09
Love It explains who Jesus is And it
9:14
will give you a solid foundation where
9:16
from that point of view you can begin to
9:18
study the Bible and study it from God's
9:21
point of view And so I just want to
9:24
encourage all of you especially right
9:27
now cuz we're in Easter season
9:29
Everybody's thinking about the
9:30
resurrection Everybody's thinking about
9:32
what Christ did for us And it's
9:34
important to understand that even though
9:37
he did that for us we also have to keep
9:40
our mind on the fact that we have to
9:41
treat other people the way he said we do
9:44
And so having love for your brother love
9:48
for your sister in Christ is more than
9:52
just words The word in Greek is
9:56
agape Uh it means benevolent love God's
10:00
love and it's based on a word agapeo
10:04
which literally
10:06
means to love in truth And so it's
10:10
important for us to know and to keep in
10:13
mind that God hasn't changed He's never
10:16
going to change In fact Jesus said he's
10:18
the same yesterday today and forever And
10:21
that his
10:22
word is just as eternal
10:26
And so as you're going through this next
10:29
couple of weeks as we're g going gearing
10:32
up towards Easter celebrating the death
10:34
burial and resurrection of Christ we
10:36
need to move
10:38
from having
10:40
that desire to share with other people
10:43
about Christ from this time of year that
10:47
we set aside as a holiday season to that
10:50
becoming the way our life is in everyday
10:53
life We need to show people daily the
10:57
love of Christ and we need to do it in
10:59
such a way as they can see Christ in us
11:03
because we are Christ's
11:05
ambassadors Um we are Jesus with skin on
11:09
and when people meet you if what they
11:11
see is Jesus they're drawn onto you
11:14
Jesus said "If I be lifted up I draw all
11:16
men unto me." So spend this time lifting
11:20
Jesus up Spend less time lifting
11:23
yourself up And you'll find that things
11:25
change your attitude your thought
11:28
processes the way you look at people uh
11:31
how you like people uh to come and want
11:36
to fellowship with you not because of
11:38
how great you are but be h but because
11:41
of how great he is So I want to leave
11:43
that with you Learn to love like Christ
11:45
loves because that's the way we're
11:47
supposed to We'll see you guys next week
11:50
Thanks
