Writing to Score a Band 7, 8 To score a Band 7, 8, or 9, you need to use more advanced sentence structures and be more coherent. In order to improve your writing, make it more concise and succinct. Adding more information in the same amount of words will make the essay more valuable and easier to read. It is essential to read your writing, find the negative construction and use the Latin verb (“illogical” instead of “not logical" or "insufficient" instead of "not sufficient"), avoid word repetition, and look for ways you can state the same idea but with fewer words. To achieve high scores, use sophisticated structures, demonstrate to the examiner good vocabulary and a good grammar range, and focus on formal writing (stay away from spoken forms and contractions, avoid negative constructions if you can, and try to use the negative verb).
