To write well during the Writing Task, it is important that you are able to identify four different types of questions and, consequently, define what type of answer you should write in response. The main types of questions are Problem + Solution, Discuss + Opinion, Opinion, and Problem + Solution. The best way to answer the essay is to form a four-paragraph plan consisting of an Introduction, Body Paragraph 1, Body Paragraph 2, and Conclusion. Depending on the type of question, the approach to body paragraphs—where you are going to pick up the majority of your points—will differ. In order to practice identifying the question type, you should write down diverse questions of your own and try to figure out the question category, then form an effective answer plan. It is also worth keeping in mind that in order to follow the essay plan, you should concentrate on mentioning the points, not repeating vocabulary or the same sentence structures, and summarizing your point in the conclusion.
