Welcome to IELTS Dragon. Today's video lesson is about IELTS Speaking Part 1 topics, picnic and recycling
0:08
Let's answer the questions for each topic, and we'll start answering the questions for picnic. Let's get started
0:17
First question for the topic, picnic. Did you go on a picnic when you were a child
0:23
First answer. If my memory serves me right, I didn't, which is unfortunate because I did miss the wonderful experience of going on a picnic in my childhood
0:33
I don't know, perhaps my parents weren't into it, or their time was just occupied with work during those younger years of mine
0:41
I was already a teen when I experienced going on a picnic with my friends and classmates
0:47
Second answer. Finally, I had countless opportunities going on a picnic when I was little, and that's because my parents love outdoors
0:56
We actually have a camper van, and we used it a lot when I was a child, traveling to different magnificent places, and having picnics
1:04
My parents still have the van, and every time I get back home to see them, I always have this bittersweet feeling whenever I see that van
1:12
because wonderful childhood memories come flooding back. How often do you go on a picnic now
1:20
First answer. Just rarely, I don't have a lot of time these days, as I'm incredibly busy
1:26
Besides, it's not advisable to go on a picnic these days, considering the situation that we are all in
1:32
Doing recreational activities in these trying times is too risky, as we might get contracted with a virus
1:40
Second answer. I don't go on a picnic at all, and that's the last thing I want to do
1:45
Honestly, I have so many things that I need to deal with on a daily basis
1:49
Well, I'm not saying that I don't have time to unwind. Of course, I also spend time relaxing now and then
1:55
It's just that going on a picnic is not my cup of tea. Where do you go on a picnic
2:02
Well, just the usual places that people love visiting, such as parks, lakes, and forests
2:08
Recently, I've heard about holding a picnic in urban spaces like a rooftop with a view of the city skyline, a museum park, a town square, and the like
2:18
I think that must be interesting. I'd like to give it a shot one day
2:23
Here's another way to answer that question. I love going on a picnic at a beach, simply because I enjoy listening to the sound of the sea waves, smelling the sea breeze, and watching the birds fly over the water
2:37
Also, it's a perfect place for a picnic as I can sunbathe that helps me relieve all my work-related stress
2:45
Doing all these things helps me forget all my worries and I make a habit of having a picnic at the beach every now and again
2:55
What kinds of food are usually eaten at a picnic? Normally, finger food or those that are easy to pack like chicken drumsticks, sausage rolls, pies, sandwiches, and many more
3:07
However, some people don't like eating foods that are preheated, so they usually bring a barbecue grill when going on a picnic and just enjoy grilling some meat or fish
3:17
And I think that's way better. Now, let's proceed to the second topic about recycling
3:24
Let's get started. First question. Do you practice recycling? Why or why not
3:32
First answer. Definitely. I'm an untiring advocate of environmental protection, I spread awareness about the importance of recycling in our community, and I'm proud to say that all my efforts have paid off
3:44
I've seen such good results like our town has been awarded as the cleanest and the most environment-friendly
3:51
I really do hope that more and more people will give value to protecting the environment
3:56
Second answer. Yes, I do, because I'm a responsible citizen. I recycle things like pet bottles and aluminum cans, and I use them as flower pots
4:06
Also, my pen holders are made of milk and juice cartons. I really find ways to practice the three R's, reduce, reuse, and recycle
4:15
And I avoid using plastic bags when I go shopping. These are just my little ways to help conserve the environment
4:23
Did you learn recycling when you were a child? First answer. Yes, of course. The importance of recycling is often taught in primary school as it's part of science education
4:34
Besides, when I was little, my mom was really strict in making me recycle some things, so I get used to doing it
4:41
If I hadn't been taught about recycling, I wouldn't have cared about the environment as much as I do these days
4:48
Second answer. Yes, because that's one of the important topics in our science class
4:53
I remember our science teacher asked us to create something out of recycled materials, and I made a bookcase made of egg trays
5:01
That project was really enlightening since we realized that even in our own little and simple ways, we could protect our environment from destruction
5:11
What kind of things do you recycle? Like I said earlier, I make sure to reuse bottles, cartons, plastic bags, containers, and paper. I've been doing this since I was a grader
5:22
Actually, it has become my habit, and I'm loving it. Besides, I get a sense of fulfillment in recycling
5:30
Will you keep recycling in the future? That's for sure. Who wouldn't want to
5:34
We all should be responsible for protecting our environment, and recycling is one of the easy ways we can do at home to contribute to the reduction of pollution
5:43
I should practice recycling, you should do recycling, we all should oblige ourselves to recycle things to improve the condition of our environment
5:51
Isn't it great if we work hand in hand in saving our Mother Earth
5:57
Here's another way to answer that question. Honestly, I don't recycle much these days, and I know that that's not right, so from now on, I'll change my ways and I'll be more concerned and serious about environmental protection through recycling
6:11
I'll also bear in mind that my own little ways will certainly have a huge impact on the environment
6:17
In addition, I'll remind myself that the future generation is worthy of having a better environment
6:24
Now, let's have some more vocabulary that can help us formulate better answers for the topic recycling
6:30
Let's focus on verb plus reduce. First, be designed to. These solar panels are designed to reduce people's consumption of energy
6:41
Aim to. The supermarkets aim to reduce the use of plastic shopping bags
6:47
Manage to. People living in the countrysides manage to reduce their electricity consumption
6:54
Varying your vocabulary surely helps you express your answers better. Doing that will help you improve your mark for the criterion lexical resource
7:04
So, find time to familiarize some new words or expressions so you won't repeat using the same words again and again
7:12
As for the topic picnic, here are some topic videos that I've made
7:17
As for the topic picnic, here are some topic vocabulary that you can use
7:29
You can be specific when talking about the food and drinks that are commonly prepared for a picnic
7:34
Like finger food and alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks. Using these words in your answers can help you express your ideas even better
7:44
