0:04
Peterson and joining me as always is my
0:06
co-host Danny Gillette and we're back
0:08
here on this Thursday morning for
0:09
another episode of the podcast and today
0:11
we have a lot to talk about um it is
0:13
Trey Taylor commitment day so we're
0:15
going to give you a little primer into
0:16
that announcement which is coming up
0:17
today at 12:00 Eastern on the 247 Sports
0:21
YouTube channel um we're going to talk
0:23
about what this commitment could mean to
0:24
Nebraska if they do get Trey Taylor um
0:27
we'll also offer up some final thoughts
0:28
on Shamar Brown his decision to go to
0:30
Miami and wrap up some of the transfer
0:32
portal movement that we've seen from
0:34
Nebraska this week so before we get into
0:35
all that please make sure that you hit
0:37
the like button hit the subscribe button
0:39
um get into the comments section make
0:40
sure you don't miss any of our other
0:42
content and uh Danny how are you on this
0:44
Thursday morning Trey Taylor Day i'm
0:46
ready for another commitment that's what
0:47
I'm ready for uh all signs point to him
0:50
committing to Nebraska of course things
0:52
can change in recruiting but I feel very
0:54
good about where the program stands
0:55
today
0:56
yeah it should i think Nebraska fans
0:58
should feel really good you're all right
1:00
and things can change quickly in
1:01
recruiting but let's set the stage for
1:03
uh Trey Taylor who is the number 35
1:06
overall prospect overall recruit in the
1:08
2027 class according to the 247 sports
1:11
composite rankings he's the number three
1:13
quarterback so if Nebraska was able to
1:15
land his commitment this would be the
1:17
second time in four years that they
1:19
would get a top three quarterback in
1:20
their class you know since they got
1:22
Dylan Rayola back in 2024 um so it would
1:25
be a massive commitment he visited
1:27
Nebraska over the weekend um all of the
1:30
expert projections are going Nebraska's
1:32
way right now there aren't any crystal
1:33
balls although those don't seem to come
1:35
as regularly anymore um now that Steve
1:37
Wilfong and all the other experts seem
1:39
to work for on three but at any rate
1:42
Steve Wilfong did put in a projection
1:44
yesterday um or maybe it was Tuesday
1:46
either way Steve Wilfong is is on
1:49
Nebraska now so Sean Callahan so is
1:51
Brian Mson uh Chad Simmons said that he
1:54
was on team Mson in the Nebraska message
1:56
boards i'm not sure if he actually put
1:57
in a prediction um I saw a Michigan guy
2:00
put in a prediction for uh Nebraska to
2:02
trade or Trey Taylor to Nebraska so
2:04
everybody who's gone on record has said
2:06
it's going to be Nebraska illinois did
2:08
visit him yesterday and they are the
2:09
instate school i think Texas A&M may
2:12
have visited him in person as well
2:14
recently but uh yeah all signs point to
2:16
Nebraska so um you know do you have any
2:18
uh concerns this afternoon is there any
2:20
program that you know you're kind of
2:21
worried about at all or do you just feel
2:23
like this is uh this is Nebraska's
2:25
lockdown i feel like this is Nebraska's
2:27
lockdown i mean you know I think they've
2:30
been very steady throughout his
2:31
recruitment he's he's you know talked
2:33
about how he likes the business school
2:36
in addition to what the football program
2:37
can bring to the table and uh I remember
2:40
Nebraska getting in on his recruitment
2:42
as early as last spring so I mean
2:44
they've been pretty steady with you know
2:47
wanting Taylor and I feel really good
2:49
about where they stand and yes
2:51
recruitment was interesting he visited
2:53
Michigan 14 times total he was a very
2:55
active recruit in all of his visits um
2:57
he's visited Nebraska according to Onree
2:59
four times but three of those visits
3:01
have happened this year um the other one
3:03
happened like in October I think of last
3:05
year so they've been very active in
3:07
making him their priority in the 2027
3:10
class um they've got Brayland Warren an
3:12
in-state quarterback who's getting some
3:13
attention from Ohio State they really
3:15
haven't you know given him much
3:16
attention at all and it's it's really
3:18
been all about Trey Taylor there was you
3:20
know Keegan Croucher was offered um you
3:23
know a few weeks ago after one of Trey
3:25
Taylor's other visits but um for the
3:27
most part he's been the priority he's
3:29
said a lot of great things about Matt
3:30
Rule he seems to have a great
3:32
relationship with Dylan Raola so now
3:34
it's just about closing the deal um but
3:36
if they are able to close the deal today
3:38
um which all signs point to that
3:40
happening um in your mind Danny will
3:43
this be the biggest commitment for
3:44
Nebraska since Dylan Riola yes because
3:47
now it sets up your quarterback room
3:49
like now you guys are in business you
3:51
know and um when you look at the month
3:54
of May last year May was when TJ Latif
3:57
committed to the program last year so
3:59
seems like the month of May is pretty
4:01
good for Nebraska quarterbacks and uh
4:05
Nebraska commits I should say so um this
4:08
would be a massive commitment it would
4:10
kind of create a succession plan for
4:13
life post Dylan Raiola and it would give
4:16
Nebraska stability in the quarterback
4:18
room with quality talent something that
4:20
the program hasn't had in quite some
4:22
time so this would be a massive
4:24
commitment yeah like you mentioned TJ
4:26
Latif was a really solid get last year
4:29
but Trey Taylor's just on a different
4:31
level um you know he's ranked like I
4:33
said number three among quarterbacks
4:34
35th overall um he's already a
4:36
borderline five-star recruit i mean so
4:39
that's not it's not that crazy to think
4:40
he could be he's literally three spots
4:42
away from being a five-star in the 247
4:45
composite rankings which I think are the
4:47
most accurate you know the composite
4:48
them and on three but I just I like how
4:51
24/7 calculates their composite rankings
4:53
which I know are going to probably be
4:54
all be different now that rivals and on
4:56
three are merging or we we'll see what
4:58
that looks like but um watch this kid
5:00
throw man i saw a video of Trey Taylor
5:02
um after his visit throwing some passes
5:04
and it's like my goodness this dude has
5:06
an incredibly talented arm and just a
5:08
great kid and the other thing that's
5:09
going to be great for Nebraska in this
5:11
situation is that with Dylan you know he
5:13
flipped so late he basically you know
5:15
was like a week or two before signing
5:17
day there wasn't Nebraska couldn't
5:19
really cash in on that commitment very
5:21
much they didn't really you know what I
5:22
mean they they did a little bit in the
5:24
transfer portal but Trey Taylor is going
5:26
to bring some you know cache to this
5:27
2024 class or 2027 class excuse me for
5:30
Nebraska and I think that's only going
5:32
to help them you know build it as they
5:34
go into it i mean they do have to hold
5:35
on to his commitment now for a long time
5:37
i mean almost 18 months but this is when
5:39
quarterbacks do it elite quarterbacks
5:41
tend to commit fairly early and uh so
5:44
great pickup for Nebraska if they can if
5:46
they can close the deal but a huge sign
5:48
moving forward and definitely I think
5:49
the biggest commitment since Raiola and
5:51
just I mean that shows that Matt Rule
5:53
can go out and win you know big-time
5:55
recruiting battles that wasn't just
5:56
because you know Raiola and the last
5:59
name and the connections I think this
6:00
will really you know assert that hey
6:02
like Matt Rule can go and get it done
6:04
with fivestar borderline prospects and
6:06
they don't have to have any ties to this
6:08
program so I think that's the most
6:09
impressive thing of all with Trey Taylor
6:11
and when you look at the last couple of
6:13
quarterback commits Daniel Kalin Dylan
6:15
Ryola TJ Jatif they're all elite 11
6:18
quarterbacks and that to me means
6:19
something i'm not sure how much you
6:21
measure you know elite 11 quarterbacks
6:23
in that way but to me that means
6:25
something uh so it just shows that
6:27
they're getting a keen eye for talent at
6:29
the quarterback position yeah and that's
6:32
the most you know if you're going to
6:33
recruit well like you have to recruit
6:34
the quarterback position well and and
6:36
Nebraska has done that I would say very
6:39
well since Matt Rules got here i mean I
6:40
know that Daniel Kalin ended up
6:42
transferring but I think I've heard a
6:44
lot of good things about him at Virginia
6:46
and it would not surprise me if he ended
6:47
up starting somewhere um and then you
6:49
look at Latif you know they got another
6:50
solid guy there marco Stavalia they
6:53
picked you know they lost a fourstar
6:54
former fourstar in Kalin picked up
6:56
another one so I I feel like they've
6:57
done a really good job at the most
6:59
important position in sports and we'll
7:01
see you know how that works out this
7:03
season with Raola and in the future but
7:05
um I definitely think uh they figured
7:08
that if you looked at one of the things
7:10
that's ailed this program you know over
7:12
their fall from grace if we want to say
7:14
that you know after Solich to you know
7:16
Pini all that
7:19
but they had what one had Zack Taylor
7:21
was offensive player of the year I think
7:23
his junior senior year in the big in the
7:25
old Big 12 and then Taylor Martinez was
7:27
first team all big 10 one time that one
7:29
season outside of that it's been very
7:31
you know underwhelming the quarterback
7:33
play at Nebraska and they've they not
7:35
really able to find like this pro style
7:37
quarterback and now they've done that
7:39
with Raiola they're doing it again with
7:41
Trey Taylor and that's how you have you
7:42
know sustained success and that's what
7:44
this program has been missing absolutely
7:47
and you know I think when you look at uh
7:50
bringing in Glenn Thomas I think he's
7:52
been a big driver of this success as
7:55
well he's been the primary recruiter in
7:57
Taylor's um recruitment so you know I
8:01
think prospects are resonating with
8:04
Glenn Thomas as much as the rest of the
8:06
program too yeah Glenn Thomas has been
8:09
he was a big part in TJ Latif too i mean
8:11
he came in late nebraska was really late
8:14
in the TJ Latif recruitment and pulled
8:15
ahead and won it so that was impressive
8:17
and yeah this is another another great
8:19
hall um you know for this coaching staff
8:21
so let's uh let's shift gears now to
8:24
some I guess not so great news for
8:26
Nebraska that came out on Wednesday kind
8:28
of got crazy with Jamar Brown in that
8:30
you know he was supposed to commit on
8:32
Monday he was projected to go to Cal by
8:34
Pete Nikkos and then Pete Nikkos dropped
8:36
that percentage for Cal down to zero
8:39
yesterday was a two team race between
8:41
Miami and Nebraska a lot of Husker fans
8:43
had hope uh but we got the word last
8:45
night that it was a Miami Chamar Brown
8:48
did announce that commitment so he will
8:50
be a Miami Hurricane nebraska will go
8:52
into the season with uh you know EMTT
8:54
Johnson and then Quinton Ives as the
8:55
number two so what are your thoughts on
8:57
Jamar Brown you know how much does this
8:59
miss hurt and you know do you think this
9:01
was just a money situation with Miami or
9:03
why do you think he chose the Hurricanes
9:05
well first of all Miami is rolling in
9:06
money second of all let's be completely
9:08
honest here miami Florida or Lincoln
9:11
Nebraska third of all I mean I love
9:14
watching fans freak out about the
9:16
running back position first of all we're
9:18
running an air raid offense so the
9:19
chances of actually running the ball
9:21
like old style 1990s football I think
9:23
are very slim given the talent at wide
9:25
receiver second of all some kids just
9:27
want to move away from home and I think
9:30
a lot of fans get caught up in the fact
9:32
that oh this kid's a hometown kid i want
9:34
to play he want to play for you know
9:37
Nebraska and stay home a lot of it's
9:39
just you know wants to go to a new
9:41
destination so I know a lot of fans are
9:43
upset by it i've said it before i'm not
9:45
worried you know i I I really am not
9:48
worried because I think the way we
9:50
utilize running backs is going to be
9:51
completely different than you know
9:53
anything that we've seen in the past
9:55
couple years so it hurts but at the same
9:57
time I'm still comfortable with what we
10:00
have because I think Parker I know he's
10:03
I I I know he's kind of getting adjusted
10:05
right now but I think Parker will play a
10:07
big hand in this equation yeah and I
10:10
think it's um to me you know Quinton
10:12
Knives just has to you know finally live
10:14
up and show out you know because that's
10:17
the you know you look at back at the
10:18
2023 class and if Nebraska wanted Jamar
10:20
Brown they could have had Jamar Brown
10:22
they wanted Quinton Ives so they made
10:24
that decision and that's really that's
10:26
what it comes down to i know Miami has a
10:28
lot of money but they also have a little
10:31
bit of a different situation i mean I
10:32
know they have two running backs back
10:34
from last year but they don't have a
10:35
guaranteed starter so I feel like they
10:37
sold Chamar on the ability like you
10:39
could have a chance to come in and be
10:40
RB1 in Miami where I don't think that
10:42
was ever on the table at Nebraska like
10:45
Chamar Brown was not going to start a
10:46
game next season if he came to Nebraska
10:48
like there was zero chance of that
10:49
happening unless EMTT got hurt where
10:51
it's probably not going to happen at
10:53
Miami but I do think he has the
10:55
opportunity like I don't think that one
10:57
of those guys you know what I mean where
10:58
where I feel like Nebraska's kind of
11:00
promised this role to EMTT Johnson and
11:01
he's kind of earned it and cemented it
11:03
and well I think if they didn't he would
11:05
he he would have been out of here a
11:07
while ago and I think that's why he came
11:08
back and this is not you know this is I
11:11
don't mean to do Wilson Dipman
11:12
speculation here but my opinion is that
11:15
um had he not been promised at least you
11:18
know the RB1 role he still wouldn't be
11:21
here because you saw how quickly he
11:23
entered the transfer portal and then it
11:24
came back so I'm wondering if that was
11:26
part of the deal yeah i mean that's just
11:29
you know it's a little different um
11:30
between football and basketball because
11:32
you know the the roles in basketball are
11:34
more defined I would say than football
11:36
just because there's only eight spots
11:37
but but that is in every transfer portal
11:39
recruitment right it's like how much are
11:40
you going to pay me and what's my role
11:42
going to be on this team like that's
11:43
what every single one comes down to
11:45
there are other factors you know like um
11:48
you know location and you know da da da
11:50
like whatever you want to but the two
11:51
most important things in every
11:52
recruitment in football and basketball
11:54
right now it's what's my role on this
11:55
team going to be and how much are you
11:57
going to pay me i mean that's I mean we
11:59
can we can dance around it all we want
12:01
but you know and say you know there's
12:02
relationships and yada yada and those
12:04
things still matter like relationships
12:06
matter in business just as much as they
12:08
matter in recruiting right like you're
12:09
much more you know if you have a good
12:10
relationship with somebody you're going
12:12
to close a business deal easier than if
12:13
you you know don't get along with
12:15
somebody like that so those
12:16
relationships still matter but at the
12:18
end of the day like you know Trey Taylor
12:20
could think Matt Rule's like the best
12:22
coach in the world but if he they're not
12:23
offering the right NIL or they're not
12:25
offering the right role like it's not
12:26
going to match it's not going to fit and
12:28
I feel like that there was some of that
12:29
here with Chamar Brown you know I just
12:31
feel like this I mean this guy was the
12:34
FCS freshman of the year for for a
12:36
national championship team like I don't
12:37
know that he was going to necessarily
12:39
want to come and be a backup to EMTT
12:40
Emtt Johnson who has two more years to
12:42
go so you know I can definitely
12:44
understand where he's coming from and
12:45
then on top of it he probably did get a
12:47
a bigger check from Miami and the way
12:50
that the way that I honestly feel like
12:52
this went is Cal had a certain amount of
12:54
money cal was probably leading and then
12:56
I don't know what happened there if they
12:58
just you didn't want to spend I you know
12:59
who knows who knows why these things
13:01
break down but it seems like they
13:03
probably went to both schools maybe
13:05
saying like "Hey this is what's being
13:06
offered." And I don't think Nebraska was
13:08
going to get into a bidding war here and
13:10
so you know that that's what I think
13:12
happened that's just my guess but
13:13
looking at the there it seemed like
13:16
there was a lot of positive momentum for
13:17
Nebraska but it it just felt like you
13:19
know more opportunity because look Jamar
13:21
Brown could be the starter that at Miami
13:23
maybe next year and unfortunately like
13:25
even if he has a great like EMTT
13:26
Johnson's probably playing here next
13:28
year so I just don't think he has you
13:29
know as much upward mobility at Nebraska
13:31
and probably didn't get you know paid as
13:33
much and you know you have the other
13:34
factors too like you said it's Miami
13:36
maybe he wants to be away from home like
13:37
we just have we don't we don't know but
13:40
um I wish they would have got it done at
13:42
the same time though I I don't think
13:45
it's it doesn't have to be catastrophic
13:47
i do believe in Quinton Knives this
13:49
coaching staff believes in Quinton
13:50
Knives he just has to do it and that's
13:52
the scary part is we just haven't seen
13:53
him do it but that doesn't mean that he
13:55
can't do it if this was let's say the
13:59
uh Marcus Satderfield 2023 offense where
14:02
running the ball was you know a pretty
14:05
big part and um then I'd be a little bit
14:08
more worried but for what we want to do
14:10
here in 2025 at Dana Hogerson I'm not
14:13
too concerned and I think Quinton Ives
14:16
can do it and I think you know I I
14:19
honestly think that later in the season
14:21
maybe you know middle of October Jarian
14:26
Parker might get some might get some
14:28
playing time because he's very talented
14:30
and I know he's got some things to work
14:31
on right now but um I could see him you
14:34
know making a splash in this running
14:35
back room i think both I I I think both
14:37
the freshman Parker and Connor Booth
14:39
could see some playing time this year
14:42
yeah for sure and it's you know just
14:44
because something a guy is hurt in the
14:45
spring or he's taken like what happens
14:47
in the spring and what happens in the
14:48
fall are two completely different things
14:50
especially for a young player i mean a
14:52
young players can ascend like so quickly
14:54
and yeah it could it could take him a
14:56
month of being a college football player
14:57
before he starts to get it figured out
14:59
but I mean I can remember shoot I want
15:02
to say when EMTT was a maybe when he was
15:03
a freshman or a sophomore he got to play
15:05
you know late in the season and so
15:07
sometimes that's just how it works out
15:08
um and I have no doubts about EMTT's
15:11
ability to produce my only concern with
15:13
him as I've mentioned before he's 205
15:15
pounds so you know if they yeah if
15:18
Nebraska wants to run the ball with him
15:19
20 times like I don't think that's a
15:21
good strategy uh they they need to they
15:24
need to be cognizant of how many you
15:26
know hits he's taken and I really would
15:28
try to limit him i really I really think
15:31
that they need to keep his carries like
15:32
for the season to 200 or below i don't
15:35
think they can get like 250 carries on
15:37
this guy he's going to break down that's
15:38
just you know it's nothing against him
15:40
it's just the Big 10 it's a brutal
15:42
conference and running backs take a lot
15:44
of punishment so my only concern with
15:46
him is uh you know the wear and tear
15:48
aspect of it so so Quinton Knives needs
15:50
to be effective because they need to
15:52
give somebody else those five to 10
15:54
carries a game because I do believe
15:55
they're going to throw the ball a lot
15:57
but they're still going to have to you
15:58
know if they're winning games they're
15:59
still going to run 25 30 times a game i
16:01
mean unless they're you know unless this
16:03
team isn't as good as we think um you
16:06
know then they'll be probably throwing
16:07
the ball more but but if you've got the
16:09
lead at some point you got to start you
16:10
know pounding the rock a little bit and
16:12
kind of salting things away so I still I
16:15
still foresee 25 30 carries this year
16:17
and five to 10 of those you know maybe
16:19
more got to go to Jamaran or not
16:20
Jamarian Parker but Quint Ives and some
16:22
of the other dudes becky Nelson too I
16:25
think um but yeah no I think you're
16:28
going to see guys like Johnson involved
16:30
a lot in the passing game too like the
16:31
little wheel route play that he ran with
16:33
Dylan Riola in the pinstripe bowl uh I
16:35
think you're going to see a lot of that
16:37
too because that showed up in the open
16:38
practice
16:39
um back in March so I think you're going
16:42
to see them involved a lot in the
16:43
passing game and in the running game and
16:45
so it'll be interesting to see how they
16:46
utilize running backs and what that
16:47
depth chart looks like yeah you look at
16:50
the last four games um from last season
16:52
with EMTT Johnson and just the receiving
16:54
numbers so against USC seven and this is
16:57
after Hogerson started calling plays
16:58
seven receptions for 36 yards against
17:01
Wisconsin 6 for 85 iowa 6 for 25 boston
17:05
College 4 for 24 so And that was
17:07
touchdown right or no yeah yep and he
17:10
did have Yep he had the touchdown and he
17:12
caught a touchdown against USC too so
17:13
two touchdown receptions in there didn't
17:15
score any rushing touchdowns but had 75
17:17
yards rushing against BC 71 against Iowa
17:21
113 against Wisconsin 55 against USC um
17:25
so I mean he's got the ability and he I
17:27
mean that's 12 23 receptions in four
17:30
games that's an average of six catches a
17:32
game last year for EMTT Johnson under
17:35
Dana Hogerson so you know he's got the
17:38
ability and that's definitely proven
17:40
that he's going to be more productive in
17:41
that area i think Nelson definitely can
17:43
be a pass um you know a passcatching
17:46
threat but the one thing looking back at
17:48
EMTT Johnson he's never carried the ball
17:50
20 times in a game before not once in
17:52
his career and he's going to have to do
17:54
that a few times this season you know I
17:57
I mean maybe not it just depends how how
17:59
good uh Quinton Ives can be you know if
18:01
Quinton Ives can get you you know 10 for
18:04
40 then then maybe EMTT Johnson doesn't
18:06
have to carry the ball 20 times this
18:07
season because I'd rather he not do it
18:09
and I think that they kind of know that
18:10
he's limited in that area but it's just
18:13
gonna be interesting to see how it works
18:14
out i mean I'm not I definitely don't
18:16
think fans need to panic i just think
18:18
that if they had gotten Jamar Brown it
18:20
just would have given them an extra
18:21
added layer of depth you know i agree
18:23
there yeah for sure but I he wasn't
18:26
going to come here in a place I can
18:28
fiddle but it uh it would have been a
18:30
luxury it would have been a luxury for
18:32
sure it's not like it was it was
18:33
definitely to me it always felt like
18:35
more of a luxury than than a need like
18:37
just you know adding adding more
18:39
security but uh it's just you know Quint
18:42
Quint I feel like Quinton Knives could
18:44
be very productive it's like I said we
18:45
just he's just unknown at this point so
18:47
um I agree and Chamar Brown maybe a
18:49
little bit more of a known but hey man
18:51
there's a reason like I said there's a
18:52
reason Nebraska you know took Quinton
18:54
Knives in the 2023 class so you know
18:56
hopefully they were right back then that
18:58
those recruiting evaluations matter and
19:00
we'll see how that pans out over the
19:02
next few years i'm interested to see how
19:05
he's utilized at Miami because now there
19:08
was another Nebraska running back who
19:10
went to Miami a couple years ago and now
19:12
he's at FIU but uh three teams in three
19:16
years might not be a depth problem at
19:19
each program but anyway um so we'll see
19:22
i mean you know
19:25
um I think he'll succeed in Miami for
19:28
what they want to do in terms of their
19:30
offense um but they but Miami also has
19:33
two very good running backs ahead of
19:34
Brown so you know I think like you said
19:37
maybe he's looking at a starting job
19:38
after this year so we'll see um and then
19:42
excuse me the last thing I wanted to
19:44
touch on uh for today we have some
19:45
transfer portal departures from Nebraska
19:47
this week which um you know the portal
19:50
excuse me closed last Friday sometimes
19:52
it can take a little bit of time for
19:54
these guys to kind of get entered into
19:55
the portal um so anyway I'm not sure if
19:59
we covered any of these guys on Monday
20:00
or if they had entered by the time we
20:02
did our show but um you have Evan Taylor
20:04
who's entered the portal the former
20:06
defensive back was a scholarship player
20:08
ian Flint tight end defensive lineman
20:11
nico Autumn Manelli uh entered the
20:13
portal recently um and then I think the
20:15
big was the biggest one to me Grant
20:17
Seager um the offensive tackle um was a
20:20
walk-on from I think Oakland Nebraska um
20:22
came to Nebraska as a tight end moved to
20:25
tackle matt Rule really talked him up in
20:27
one of his press conferences this spring
20:29
so he's actually already got offered by
20:31
Washington State and some other power
20:32
for four programs but those are uh I
20:35
think that's all the guys right there
20:36
that have transferred i don't know if
20:38
we're going to see any others at this
20:39
point and I don't know do you think that
20:41
all these players are going to actually
20:42
leave the program or do you think it's
20:43
just like um them doing it as like kind
20:47
of an insurance measure like in case the
20:48
105 happens then they can leave but if
20:50
it doesn't they could still return the
20:53
only one that I could see possibly still
20:55
returning is Ottomanelli because we
20:57
don't know you know Mike Eckler and his
20:59
special team style i'm not sure exactly
21:01
what Ottomanelli's style is but um you
21:05
know that one was a little bit
21:07
surprising to me but the rest I I think
21:09
you know we have we have depth you know
21:13
starting depth on the on on the
21:15
defensive line you know we were starting
21:17
to have a really good amount of depth at
21:20
defensive back so a lot of these weren't
21:22
surprising to me
21:24
yeah no and really none of them were
21:25
surprising to I mean with Nico I just
21:27
think you know when you do get at some
21:30
point they're going to have 105man
21:32
roster i mean he was only a freshman so
21:34
like there's just not probably going to
21:35
be a situation where Nebraska is going
21:37
to carry three kickers on that roster so
21:39
while they've got Albano and John Hall
21:41
you know it's just I think that the
21:43
writing was kind of on the wall there
21:45
for for the specialists and and those
21:46
guys unfortunately are going to get you
21:48
know you're going to be down probably to
21:49
two kickers one punter and one long
21:51
snapper i mean that's going to be it on
21:52
the roster because 105 man is 105 you
21:56
know whatever happens with it this year
21:57
it's going to take effect at some point
21:59
and um so hopefully you know Nico I do I
22:02
definitely think he can kick at this
22:04
level though so hopefully he finds a
22:05
landing spot um most of the guys yeah
22:08
it's nothing nothing against them best
22:10
of luck to all of them in the future um
22:12
the two guys DeAndre Barnes is one like
22:14
I you know I think he could have played
22:16
this season i do think I do wish they
22:18
could get Grant Seager back um I don't
22:21
know i just have a feeling that that guy
22:23
I mean from a former tight end who's now
22:25
66 300 lb um I just have a feeling that
22:28
he's going to start somewhere you know
22:30
on the offensive line i know he got
22:32
offered by Washington State but it
22:34
wouldn't surprise me if he ended up in
22:35
the Big 10 somewhere and uh so I don't
22:38
know i I I'm thinking not that there's
22:40
really anything Nebraska could do to
22:42
prevent it because he's still probably a
22:44
year or two away from playing at
22:46
Nebraska but I think if if there's a way
22:48
that they could try to get him back on
22:49
the roster he's probably like the only
22:51
one that you know I would like to keep
22:54
yeah and you know you could always use
22:55
offensive line depth we've seen it
22:57
before where you have too little and
22:58
then it create issues but uh by and
23:01
large you know I I I help all these guys
23:04
find programs and um cuz there's so many
23:06
kids that enter the transfer portal and
23:08
then they're never able to find a home
23:09
so that's the unfortunate part about all
23:11
this yeah that is unfortunate and then
23:15
um it's going to be you know what it is
23:16
going to be great for though the uh the
23:18
NIA programs the FCS programs um you
23:21
know some of these programs that have
23:23
gotten some of their players poached too
23:24
but there's going to be a lot more
23:26
talent that like programs like Nebraska
23:28
were kind of hoarding and uh that won't
23:30
be happening quite as much in the future
23:32
yeah and you know it'll increase the
23:34
talent at that level as well maybe get
23:36
some more national exposure because a
23:37
lot of these FCS teams are good man i
23:39
mean you look at like the the the Dakota
23:42
schools I'll call them and you know it
23:45
seems like we we we hear those programs
23:48
called during the NFL draft a lot so uh
23:52
Gray Gray Zeble the offensive lineman
23:54
was uh went to I believe it was um North
23:59
Dakota State so I mean yep North Dakota
24:03
State seems to produce NFL talent if not
24:06
every year than than every other year so
24:08
there's no shame in going to an FCS
24:10
program at all yeah no there's a lot of
24:13
FCS is getting better and better and I
24:15
think is uh you know we'll see what
24:17
happens i would love to see you know the
24:19
FCS and the group of five like merge
24:21
together i think that would be sweet and
24:23
let the let the power four be the power
24:24
four and let them have their own
24:26
separate championships that's that's my
24:27
dream scenario yeah no that would be
24:30
that would be a nice scenario because
24:32
you look at like again national exposure
24:36
anything that can grow the game and gain
24:38
more eyes on the lower I don't want to
24:40
say lower levels but the kind of smaller
24:43
levels of college football i mean that's
24:45
never a bad thing and I think man like I
24:48
just like teams in the MAC like it would
24:50
be I mean I know that now that they've
24:52
got the the guaranteed spot like they
24:54
they have a chance to get into the 12
24:56
team playoff like if if you're if you're
24:57
an undefeated team in the MAC like
24:59
you're probably going to make the 12
25:00
team playoff or at least be you know in
25:02
that conversation so like you
25:03
theoretically could run the table and
25:05
win the national championship and yada
25:06
yada yada but like we know that's never
25:08
going to actually happen so like I I
25:10
feel like it'd be really cool for teams
25:12
in like the Mountain West and the MAC to
25:13
to uh compete for you know the Group of
25:16
Five or FCS National Championship you
25:18
know like I you know North Dakota State
25:20
going up against a team from like
25:21
Conference USA in a play like I think
25:23
that would be great television i think
25:25
ESPN could sell the crap out of it and
25:28
then I think you'd have those let those
25:30
sit the top 64 or 80 teams let them do
25:32
their mini NFL thing and let those other
25:34
teams do college football and I think it
25:36
would be the best of both worlds
25:39
yeah I mean Montana's FCS team is really
25:42
talented too so I mean there's a lot of
25:44
good programs and um there's a lot of uh
25:48
good I don't want to say hidden talent
25:50
but maybe not recognized enough talent
25:52
that uh definitely deserves a bigger
25:54
platform yeah it would be fun montana
25:57
actually just had uh guys from each of
25:59
their schools drafted and actually were
26:01
from Montana so they've had they have
26:03
quite a few players drafted but not
26:04
always from Montana so yeah one guy from
26:07
but one guy from Billings um actually
26:10
was uh I think Tom Brady might have had
26:12
a role in drafting the guy from but his
26:14
name is Tommy Malot and he's a quarter
26:16
he was a college quarterback but he he
26:18
ran a 4-39 in the 40 so people are
26:20
saying he could be like a Julian Edelman
26:22
type and so I thought that was
26:24
interesting that that Tom Brady's team
26:26
you know drafted a player like that
26:27
because uh if anybody knows what a
26:29
Julian Edelman can bring to your team
26:30
it's Tom Brady i mean if he can have a
26:32
Julian Edelman type career that would be
26:34
quite something so I'll still I'll still
26:37
never forget the Super Bowl catch
26:39
against the Falcons that tight window
26:40
catch probably one of the greatest plays
26:43
I've ever seen and uh yeah no getting a
26:45
Julian Edelman comparison is never a bad
26:47
thing i remember when Julian Edelman
26:49
like came on the scene as a seventh
26:51
round pick and was just dominating the
26:52
preseason that year as a quarterback
26:54
originally yeah so switched yeah but uh
26:58
yeah great pickup there so um all right
27:00
you guys we'll wrap everything up there
