Hey folks, welcome back to another episode of the Husker Big Red podcast. I'm Chris Peterson and joining me as always is Danny Gillette. We're here at huskerbigred.com and we're here to talk about some Nebraska football, basketball, baseball, whatever else
0:13
But the first kind of topic, you know, on my mind, I guess, is recruiting
0:18
And I know it's been, you know, Carter Nelson. Everybody's, I guess, been talking about Dylan Rayola
0:23
And, you know, that's been a big topic of conversation with the number one overall quarterback and recruit
0:29
But Carter Nelson's recruitment has also been blowing up. So that's going to be a key topic of conversation
0:34
So I guess just to hop right into it, Danny, like how worried are you or what are your thoughts right now about the recruitment of Carter Nelson
0:43
I'm extremely worried, and I don't buy the thing that, oh, he's a local kid, he'll stay home
0:47
I mean, just look at it from a college kid perspective. A lot of kids want to go see the world, and they don't want to stay home
0:55
I know I didn't. When you've got an offer like Alabama, and we've said this about other recruits before
1:04
it's very hard to say no. I saw he got an offer from Miami the other day, and so his recruitment is really piling up
1:12
I am a little worried. I am a little worried about Nelson, and I'm almost willing to say that I feel better about landing Raiola than I do with Nelson at this point
1:23
Yeah, it's harder to read, I guess. It's not like Carter Nelson's giving interviews on three and 24-7
1:33
Steve Wiltfong's not interviewing Carter Nelson's dad every other week. You know what I mean
1:38
So I think there's less information out there because of that. The guy from Husker Online, I'm blanking on the name, not Callahan, but Brian Munson, just got there for an interview, actually
1:50
And he said some interesting things. You know, I think he watched a basketball game
1:54
Carter Nelson plays basketball. Matt Rule's been there for, you know, a basketball game
1:58
Him and Satterfield and some other coaches were down there for that. and you know one thing that he said carter is very um he doesn't give up a lot in information
2:09
you know when he's talking to the media one thing he did say was that um carter kind of
2:14
not really lit up but that he kind of mentioned notre dame a little bit more that was the one
2:18
school that that you know just according to this one reporter's kind of perspective um that seemed
2:24
to be a little bit more excitement in his voice was notre dame so you know potentially i could
2:30
see that I don't know if I mean with Alabama and Georgia like I am worried about them but
2:34
as I've kind of said off air I'm not going to be that worried until you know he's taken an
2:40
unofficial visit and like an official visit there that'll that'll be concerned he seems to me if I
2:45
think if Nebraska doesn't get him he still seems like a Midwest type kid so I mean Notre Dame and
2:51
you know Michigan offered too I mean don't sleep on them I mean look what they've done with
2:55
I mean tight ends they're they're sending a tight end to the NFL almost every year and they throw to
2:59
the tight end and it sounds like that he really wants to be involved in the offense kind of like
3:03
Travis Kelsey so but I feel good about Nebraska I feel like Nebraska has as good a shot as anybody
3:09
right now and and frankly you know a factor too is you know whether his parents I mean we don't
3:16
know how much of a decision they're going to have in it but I'm sure he's going to want to give his
3:20
parents the best chance to see him play and the best chance to see him play is going to be at nebraska because it's not easy um you know to get to or from ainsworth really anywhere so i mean
3:29
that could i don't know if that's going to be a factor but it could be you know and i think it's
3:35
kind of telling that we haven't heard a lot about his recruitment i've you know i've been looking
3:38
for information and you know i've seen you know some quotes here and there but it's not been
3:43
anything too crazy so it's kind of interesting to see you know his his stock you know continue to
3:50
you know get noticed and it's good for the state itself in terms of high school talent but I mean
3:56
I am a little bit worried I know I know like you said I could see him you know maybe Michigan
4:01
would be a possibility or you know Georgia could be a possibility they have had recent success
4:09
with tight ends so that could be I would I could very much see him going to Georgia but
4:15
But I think it all depends. And I'm not going to say, I shouldn't say it all depends
4:20
but I think a lot of it probably depends on what Dylan Rayola does. I don't think, you know, it's like a, hey, if you come here
4:25
I'll go to Nebraska as well. I just think when you have an opportunity to play with a good quarterback
4:31
you know, that's going to dictate where you go because you want to play with a good quarterback. So, you know, I don't think it's like a Rayola comes
4:39
Nelson comes type of thing. But I just think Nelson will follow wherever the good quarterbacks are
4:45
yeah and see you know I do think that'll make an impact but I don't think it's going to make
4:50
as big of an impact as you know maybe some people do I just I don't know I just think that recruits
4:56
I think that every recruitment is different and I just don't you know I know that I know that Texas
5:00
got some kids after Arch Manning went there but it's also like I mean Texas has had a top five
5:05
class the year before too so I mean did they really get a bunch of kids because of Arch Manning or is
5:10
it just because they're Texas you know so I I just don't know how much I mean I think it does impact
5:15
some of it and yeah playing playing with a good quarterback is obviously going to make Nebraska
5:19
more marketable for him so I mean it is going to have an impact on his decision I think I just am
5:24
not one that really buys you know recruits making an impact on other recruits you know you always
5:30
see like oh this I just signed or I just committed and I'm going to start recruiting this guy and
5:34
this guy well but in my experience that rarely ever works so I think it comes down to the coaching
5:40
staff and how he's going to play, how he's going to fit in. Obviously, quarterback is a little bit
5:44
different because he's going to be throwing him the ball. And, you know, if you're going to be playing with, you know, a potential number one quarterback that is going to influence your
5:51
decision, I think a little bit, just because, you know, if you're thinking about the NFL and doing
5:55
these different types of things, I mean, obviously want a talented player throwing you the football
6:00
But I don't know that it'll be all that connected. I think it's really going to be about, you know
6:04
how these coaches approach Carter Nelson. And so that's one reason I feel confident in Nebraska's ability to win this
6:11
thing long-term is I just don't think that any coach is going to come in here
6:15
and outwork Matt rule for this recruit. And it could be like, we've said
6:19
maybe Carter Nelson's like, I just don't want to go to college in Nebraska. I'm a Husker fan, but you know
6:24
I just need to get out and see something else like that's there are things that are beyond Nebraska's control
6:28
but they're not going to get outworked for an in-state kid in Nebraska
6:32
Like, I firmly believe that, you know, in this cycle and in the future cycles
6:36
Well, I think, you know, there may be something a little bit to, for example
6:40
Arch Manning at Texas because they went 5-7 in 2021 and 8-5 in 2022
6:46
I mean, that's not like national championship caliber, obviously. So I honestly do think in the Texas case, there was, you know
6:56
Manning did have a lot of impact on it only because of his talent. And I think with Nebraska, I think Rayola could, you know, kind of help rejuvenate the program
7:08
I think the selling point to a lot of these kids was they could be a part of, you know, making something big happen at a program that's kind of been, you know, slightly above average in Texas, making an impact on a program in Nebraska that has struggled the past couple seasons
7:28
And so I do think there is something to, you know, the thinking that they can be the ones
7:35
to flip things around. So, I mean, I don't think, you know, Rayola coming here is all of the reason why kids
7:41
would come here. But I do think they have a unique opportunity to kind of you know make their name within the program especially if they get things turned around quickly here and quite honestly it the same thing with Matt Rule
7:55
Yeah and you know speaking of Dylan Rail there's some interesting there's been a lot of interesting
7:59
news coming out this week and you know about his visit to Georgia if he is going to visit Georgia
8:05
and he is going to visit Georgia that's what his dad said that you know last they reported it this
8:11
morning with Husker online and Steve Sipple. So that visit is going to take place. I think a lot
8:15
of people were, you know, trying to like throw Georgia, you know, out of the mix because they're
8:20
offering other quarterbacks and stuff like I just, you know, the Georgia, they're going to recruit
8:25
other quarterbacks. I mean, especially kids like, you know, if you've got a pretty good in-state
8:29
quarterback and you haven't offered him up to this point, like, yeah, it might be like a backup
8:34
type of like the Merklinger kid we talked about last week, but you can't go to that kid in June
8:38
with an offer and try to win his commitment. You just can't do it. He's ranked seventh in the country among quarterbacks
8:45
So, I mean, it's more than a Dylan Raiola backup plan. It is, but it's like, this is a back
8:49
You can't just like recruit Dylan Raiola till, you know, June and then lose on him and be like, oh, hey, Jake, you know
8:55
like you got to put in some effort, you know, especially that highly touted of a kid
8:59
Like it's, you know, like Michigan was in a situation like that last year. They tried to recruit Dante more and they missed on him
9:05
And there was a pretty highly ranked kid in the state. And like they wouldn't he wouldn't even basically talk to Michigan at that point
9:10
So they never even offered him because they just never put any effort into it. So like all the things that are happening with Georgia, I don't think it is a sign that they're not going to get Dylan Ray
9:19
Oh, I do feel good about where Nebraska sits right now. But in terms of, you know, just what's happening, he's going to be still visiting Georgia that weekend before
9:27
I think USC is still in the mix and I wouldn't count out Oregon either
9:31
Oregon is one team that I would not count out in this recruitment. you know Phil Knight and the NIL and Dan Lanning and they've got a ton of like if you look at all
9:40
the programs on the west coast Oregon has as much upcoming talent as anybody and they've got the
9:46
facilities the NIL they've got all that type of stuff there's a reason why all the big time players
9:50
from California and Oregon you know tend to go I mean from California and Arizona you know tend to
9:55
go to Oregon a lot of them so you know they're a team that I don't think you can count out and
10:00
you know beyond that we'll see what happens but those are the three teams beyond Nebraska that I
10:04
would be really worried about. I'll just say that that visit weekend at the end of March is going
10:11
to feature a lot of high-profile players, and it'll be interesting to see if anything comes of that
10:17
I've heard that there could be at least one commitment from that weekend, and my guess is
10:25
that it's going to be Ann Flint, the tight end, but I don't have any insider information or anything
10:32
like that. He's just been trending to Nebraska. I know you've written a couple pieces on him, but
10:37
I mean, we'll see what comes of that weekend. It's going to be a big weekend. And speaking of which
10:42
and I totally forgot about this until just now, we landed our first commitment of the 2024 class
10:48
in Roger Gradney. So I am pleased with him. I think he brings a lot of speed to the table. He
10:55
was a good kick returner in high school. So I'm curious to see what kind of role he'll play
11:01
at Nebraska, but he was one, and we kind of talked about this on Monday
11:07
he kind of flew under the radar. He had offers from Campbell and UTSA
11:12
and he missed a lot of his last high school season due to injury
11:18
but I really liked what I saw. Very fast guy, very speedy guy
11:22
and it's a good way to kick off the 2024 class, in my opinion. Yeah, Gratney, it seems like he has ties with Tommy Armstrong
11:31
and it seems like Tommy Armstrong played a role in getting him to Nebraska. Once he got that offer, I mean, pretty much within a day he was committed
11:39
But, yeah, Matt Rule talked about in one of his press conferences
11:43
if I have a guy who can run the 100 in this and if he can triple jump
11:48
I can teach him how to play football. And, you know, this guy runs, I think when he was a sophomore
11:52
he ran a 10A8 in the 100-meter dash. You know, he's in the 22 range in the 200
11:57
I think he's triple jumping like 44 feet up to this, like in the 43, 44 foot range, played offense, defense, you know, special teams
12:05
It sounds like that Evan Cooper wants him as a defensive back. But yeah, I mean, I love this commitment for Nebraska
12:11
I think he's he basically right now he's ranked in the top 24 seven for 24 seven sports, which is we talked about that the other day, too
12:20
He's only Texas Tech is his only other power five offer right now. But he's like a legit four star kid in the composite
12:26
He's actually 24-7 sports in their own rankings that are calculated into that composite
12:31
He's like 153. So, I mean, this is a really good start for Nebraska
12:35
And this is a guy that's got a ton of upside, too. So, I mean, it's not going to shock me if, you know, you start to see Texas and A&M come in with offers later on in the cycle, you know, with the way just, you know, his ranking is and kind of where he could go
12:48
But it's a really big-time start for Nebraska. And I feel like that Tommy Armstrong connection, I'm sure we'll learn more about that, is good
12:57
And, you know, Matt Rule again in Texas, he's showing that those ties are legitimate
13:01
And Nebraska hasn't recruited Texas this well since they just left the Big 12
13:06
So it's been outstanding to see that work in Texas from this coaching staff
13:10
Absolutely. And Gradney, I believe, if I remember correctly, scored a touchdown on offense, defense, kick return
13:20
and, you know, a special teams, I think it was a block
13:24
So that just speaks to his versatility. And I love the fact that they continue to go into Texas
13:30
I think there's a lot of talent down there. And I was honestly pretty surprised by this commitment
13:35
just because it happened so fast. I believe he visited or I believe he was offered on the 19th
13:43
and then committed on Monday. So it was a quick recruitment and fast, committable offer
13:50
And it's good to see the program get a player in the class
13:57
And I'll be interested to see what else they do and if they continue to go into Texas, which I'm sure they will
14:04
Also, I think it's a great example of Matt Rule and this coaching staff's ability to close on recruits
14:10
They've done a great job of that on their visits. We talked about that. You know, the guys, the high school recruits in the 2023 class that took official visits late in that cycle, almost every single one of them ended up signing with Nebraska
14:22
So, I mean, this coaching staff just does a really good job of, you know, there's like that, you know, 90 percent
14:29
You know, if you talk about that bar of getting to 100 percent in recruitment, you know, and you're like filling it up, you know, it's really a lot of teams and staffs can get to that 90, 95 percent
14:38
But it's to get that 100 percent, that extra push. And Matt Rule and these guys are really good at it
14:42
I think that bodes well for Nebraska's future. Absolutely. And, you know, I think it also bodes well for their future in terms of trying to compete with USC and UCLA on the recruiting trail as well
15:01
Because, you know, their ability to close quickly. I mean, Lincoln Riley is another coach that it's very hard to say no to, especially when you talk about quarterbacks and, you know, wide receivers
15:12
And so their ability to, you know, go in, offer, get the job done will bode well for them in the future as well
15:20
because there's going to be a little bit more stiff competition coming around the corner in 2024
15:26
Yeah, definitely. I'll be interested, too, to see, you know, speaking of that, where, you know
15:31
I saw something where it was like projected you know rivals in the Big Ten And I think Nebraska where Iowa Wisconsin and UCLA you know if there like that three pod system So that would make a lot of sense to me
15:42
And yeah, you have to, you're really going to have to watch out with UCLA and USC
15:47
but it could work well on the back end too, because I think that's going to give Nebraska more of a foothold in California
15:52
And so really, you know, in a couple of years, I think we're going to see Nebraska landing guys in Texas, California, Pennsylvania, Florida
15:59
I really think that Matt Rule is going to have like this thing is a consistent you know top 15
16:05
you know recruiting operation I really believe that like in the yeah I think Nebraska is actually
16:10
like going to be in like three or four years they're going to be like when the when 24-7
16:14
puts out you know it's a blue chip ratio rankings with the teams that have a shot to win the
16:18
national championship Nebraska is going to be one of those and there's like 16 of them so I mean
16:23
don't get don't let you know I'm not trying to get carried away with it but this this is going to be
16:27
a top 15 college football recruiting program under Matt Rule. That's one prediction I feel
16:32
pretty confident in. Yeah, and you definitely should because he's shown that he can recruit
16:38
at a high level. He identifies areas where he has success. He doesn't just shoot out offers into
16:44
space. He's calculated with his offers. I'll be interested to see how much more involved Tony
16:55
White gets in recruiting because he recruits the California area. Not that he's just, you know
17:00
sitting back drinking a margarita right now, but, you know, we don't really need to recruit the
17:07
California area as heavily as we're going to need to in the coming years. And so I'll be interested
17:12
to see, you know, if his role as a recruiter kind of expands a bit more with everybody else coming in
17:20
Yeah, he hasn't really been very active on the recruiting trail right now. It seems like Evan Cooper is really the guy that is kind of really getting things going
17:28
And then like Omar Hales and some of the other, you know, personnel guys, Mike Wallace, you know, which is good
17:33
I mean, you need a big time, like you need a full staff of guys just recruiting, you know, like and Matt Rule, Sean Callahan
17:40
he's got like 50 guys on staff total. So Nebraska is actually getting to the point where they have the infrastructure to, you know, recruit at this level
17:47
And it takes it takes having guys that aren't on field coaches to do it, you know, evaluating talent, reaching out to kids
17:53
You know, all of that type of stuff makes a big difference. And if you look at, you know, Georgia, Alabama, these Ohio State
18:00
Yes, they've made the playoff and they've won a bunch of games and they've done all that, but they also spend more money than anybody on recruiting
18:06
So it really is, you know, it's like I'm trying to think if you look at if you invest in something, if you put the money into it, you know, you're going to have better infrastructure
18:15
That's just the way it works. You know, if you put money into a bridge, it's probably going to be, you know, if you give it, you know, more bricks and whatever else, you know, it's going to work
18:23
better. So, I mean, I feel like that Matt Rule understands that. And, you know, that's why I feel
18:28
really good, obviously, about this, you know, recruiting operation going forward. And 2024
18:34
I think, is off to a very good start. We've talked about that March date. But yeah, I feel like
18:37
Nebraska is really going to be looking to build some momentum after that weekend
18:42
And it's also nice that we finally have figured out how to use ysts and stuff like that
18:46
properly and we're not just screwing ourselves over for a potential bull bit or whatever
18:53
But anyway, yeah, no, I think, you know, all the staff is in the right place
18:58
All the resources are going in the right place. And oh, yeah, there is a big announcement
19:05
I believe this afternoon, I believe 1 p.m. Nebraska time. It was tweeted out by some of the reporters yesterday
19:13
And I'm just wondering what that announcement is. the governor is going to be there um i you know trev i think is going to be there so i'm curious
19:22
to see what the announcement is uh maybe i don't know what do you think maybe a um a concert of
19:29
some sort in memorial or something like that could be it's it's hard to tell i'm not yeah they said
19:34
an event in the fall so i really don't know what that could possibly be that is bringing the
19:40
governor and yeah, I'm, I'm really kind of perplexed on it because, you know, if they
19:45
if they didn't say, you know, like an event in the fall, then I would maybe think, you know
19:49
NIL or them, you know, building a new facility of some sort, but you know, it does, it seems like
19:54
they're just announcing like a specific, a specific thing. So I'm not really sure, but I'm
20:00
I am guessing since the governor is going to be there, it's something that's going to, you know
20:03
bring some economic boost to the state would be my guess in some way, shape or form. And it'll
20:08
probably be a good thing for the university but i'm i'm perplexed i have no idea right now
20:13
some fan theories if you will include a uh i'm down for fan theories a uh but crawford boxing
20:21
match at memorial stadium which would be really cool um a volleyball match but i don't really see
20:26
where the governor would get involved i could see where you know crawford would get the governor
20:32
involved because you know i think there would be it's not technically a nebraska athletics event
20:38
it's more of a you know uh fighting event but i don't know i'm interested i think uh i'm i'm
20:47
curious to see what this announcement is and if you bring the governor out it's got to be something
20:51
relatively big i i would think something good at least that he wants to attach himself to you know
20:58
as the politician you got to be there when they're like shaking hands and stuff smiling
21:02
exactly what do they say kissing babies shaking hands smiling and waving
21:07
so that's funny well yeah we'll see what it is i'm excited though it's got to be
21:13
it's interesting i love the fan theories though i really do um but uh you know another thing we
21:19
don't have a theory about i guess is another big game for nebraska basketball and uh you know
21:24
Actually, I wanted to talk about the women, too, because, man, the other night, Jazz Shelley just absolutely obliterated Illinois, and they really needed that
21:32
The Huskers in the latest bracketology are like, you know, they have the first four out
21:36
Well, Nebraska's in the next four out, so they were like the seventh out because they've kind of been on a bit of a losing streak
21:42
They've kind of been going down while the men have been going up. But you beat the number 25 team on the road by 33 points, and that will get some people's attention
21:49
So we'll see if that will get them back into the bubble mix. I think they've got, you know, another game this weekend
21:54
So before the Big Ten tournament, but the Cornhuskers, the men's team on Saturday, the vault is going to be packed again
22:00
I'm sure Minnesota's coming to town their last place in the Big Ten. So like I'm a little worried about like a letdown, but I don't know
22:06
I feel like this team is just not on cruise control, but it seems like they're just really peaking at the right time
22:12
I don't know. What do you think, Danny? The game sold out. So that's a that's a good omen right there
22:17
And I think as long as they continue to, you know, play play at the way they've been playing
22:23
sharing the basketball playing for each other I mean Derek Walker and Sam Griesel spoke to the
22:30
media earlier this week and they mentioned about this team being a brotherhood and you know stuff
22:35
I quite frankly haven't heard in the Fred Hoiberg era before so as long as they continue to defend
22:40
well um you know share the basketball and as always make your free throws then I'm very confident in
22:48
this game it shouldn't be an issue but we saw what happened when Nebraska went to Minnesota
22:53
Minnesota took them to overtime I believe it was in January so I'm you know I'm excited if they can
22:59
get another win then you know things are really really looking up and it would put them over 500
23:04
yeah and that's you know I can't remember the last time we've had of over 500 team in basketball it
23:09
really hasn't been since uh you know Tim Miles was here I think it just would be another step
23:14
too and like this is a you know nebraska's won a lot of games that they technically weren't supposed
23:18
to win in terms of i mean i don know if there a single game they won in the big 10 that they been the favorite and you know outside of maybe the minnesota game they might have been a slight favorite at that one but Iowa was a favorite here Penn State Wisconsin Ohio State Maryland They put a lot of upsets Now can they handle success Can
23:37
they manage success? Can they take care of business as the favorite and not as an underdog
23:43
Oh, Maryland just upset number three. Let's knock them off. Can they do what they're supposed to do
23:48
on Saturday? That's going to be a big question to me. But yeah, if they keep playing defense
23:54
if they keep getting the ball to, you know, Derek Walker and, you know, Kai Se, I mean, those two guys have been playing so well and it's just going to be fun to watch. But man
24:03
can you imagine if they win this game on Saturday and then, you know, Michigan State's coming to the
24:07
vault is going to be, that's going to be like that Wisconsin game the last year they made the
24:11
tournament, which was 2014. And I've been a Nebraska basketball fan. I wrote this the other
24:15
but since 1991 when I moved to Nebraska, and I've seen two tournament teams, that's it
24:21
1994, or it might have been 95, the miracle Eric Piotrkowski won the Big A championship
24:28
and then that 2014 team, which got the 11th seed and then lost to Baylor in the first round
24:33
So I've never seen a tournament win, so it would be great to get back there
24:37
But this is the most fun I've had as a basketball fan for Nebraska in a long time
24:41
and I just want this ride to keep going as long as it will go. Absolutely. And, you know, this team is so likable, too
24:48
I mean, this team really is like you have Greasel Diamond for loose balls
24:53
You have Kesey who absolutely enjoys. This looks like the happiest person in the world, though
24:57
Just like always has a smile on his face. Like, I just love that dude. I just want to be that guy's friend
25:03
Yeah, I just want to be as happy as Kesey is every single day. He just loves life. He loves playing basketball
25:09
He gets so excited. You have Derek Walker. absolutely you know driving the ball inside you know not giving up you know it's just a fun team
25:19
to watch and i think that plays a big part in it too and you know i hate to you know go back to this
25:25
but imagine if they won that purdue game back in oh i know oh i know they'd be we'd be we'd probably
25:32
i mean they'd probably be on the at least somewhere on the bracketology chart not maybe in
25:36
but they'd be on that level of the team's close you know because yeah i mean that i do think about
25:43
that if that if that ref wouldn't have made that horrible call and we could have maybe won that
25:47
game but because that place was loud pinnacle bank was loud that day and i think it's gonna get louder
25:53
over these next couple days here and fred hoyberg has definitely earned at least another year with
25:58
this program because i think he's beginning to see and we've talked about it uh you know he's
26:04
kind of established an identity for the Big Ten. And as weird as it sounds, you know, it seems like once BandeMille and Gary went down
26:12
this team really kind of, I don't know, found their stride or, you know, something within
26:19
them made them, you know, kind of just play at a higher level
26:23
And, you know, I hate to see anybody injured, of course, but it seems like, you know, whatever
26:29
happened or whatever flipped that switch, it's starting to work. and it is working
26:35
And I just think, you know, it's the, it's one of the best coaching jobs that Fred's done
26:41
And he has even, some people have started to throw his name out there
26:44
as Big Ten Coach of the Year. You know, I mean, if they, if this team finishes 10 and 10 in the Big Ten
26:49
then maybe, maybe he is Big Ten Coach of the Year, honestly, with where this program has been
26:53
And I know, I know Chris Collins in Northwestern, you know, have had a great year this year
26:57
but he's taken that team to the tournament before, you know, like this is Nebraska going 10 and 10
27:02
in the Big Ten. that's like, I can't even, I really can't, it's hard to even put that kind of into perspective
27:07
with where they've been the last few years. And I just don't think you can give enough credit for
27:12
him. And it gave me goosebumps. You know, he sat up there and said, you know, everybody wanted to
27:16
talk about, you know, what has been, or what could have been with this team, you know? And I said
27:21
you know, let's think about what could still be, you know, and that just the way he said that
27:25
gave me goosebumps. And I know he, it really has impacted this team. And so it's been great to see
27:30
him finally have success and i know the nebraska faithful is going to be you know coming out strong
27:35
on saturday the women are playing at home on sunday and uh you know if the women win they're
27:40
going to be in a nice spot maybe to get in the ncaa tournament so i know the vault is going to
27:43
be packed for that game too and honestly when it comes to men's and women's basketball and women's
27:49
like women's sports basketball and volleyball i don't know that there's a better fan base out
27:53
there than nebraska yeah the women's sports are absolutely fantastic it's crazy how many people
27:58
pack that place for yeah you know and they're not even ranked this year that's not I mean they're a
28:02
solid team but it's just I mean there's teams I know the Iowa and the Big Ten is really great for
28:08
women's basketball attendance but just the the level of basketball support for like the amount
28:15
of wins you know in Nebraska it's like it's to me it's just unrivaled yeah yeah it really is
28:21
there's tons of fan support and you know people are just like so excited to see you know all these
28:28
teams and you know it's like one big community it really is when they come to see these games and
28:34
you know they're giving fans you know something to cheer about and they're giving fans something
28:39
to cheer for and it's been a while you know in terms of basketball men's basketball that we
28:45
could say that and you know hopefully the women can really finish strong here and you know continue
28:51
on you know with postseason play but um it's certainly taking our mind off of baseball
28:57
baseball i don't know what's going on with baseball but they're not giving us anything
29:01
to cheer about and it's kind of sad not yet season's still long season's still long but
29:07
i don't know you know baseball is one of those two where sometimes you can start real slow and
29:13
i mean we'll see i i still have faith in these guys you know to be uh you know in the in the
29:19
mix here in the big 10 and and we'll see it would be great to get this team back to the ncaa tournament
29:23
as well and hopefully will bolt on the guys they did get a tie the other day i really didn't
29:27
understand i mean i guess the travel i got it with the time concerns and maybe they were trying
29:32
to get it i'm not really sure but i didn't because it was like 16 to 16 like yeah what kind of
29:37
baseball game is that man that is an indictment on our pitching more so than i've ever seen one
29:43
16 to 16 no wonder we're losing games i know and the pitching actually is supposed to be good so
29:48
So that's what – early season college baseball can be kind of weird
29:52
We'll see. I think we'll have a better handle on this team in a couple weeks
29:56
But, yeah, not a great start, you know. I wouldn't yell at my teammates, but if I was, you know, a catcher
30:02
or somebody in the lineup, I would be pissed that my pitching staff
30:06
gave up 16 runs while we scored 16 and didn't get a win
30:11
That's like video game stuff right there, man. Yeah, that's some MLB The Show stuff right there
30:18
Yeah, like early. Yeah, because it's more realistic now. So I don't know if you even get 1616 game
30:26
