We analyze everything that happened on Early Signing Day for Nebraska football. The Huskers signed a top-25 class with 11 blue-chip recruits. Terrance Knighton also departed as D-line coach; the transfer portal will be heating up soon too.
We cover it all and go off on some weird tangents.

0:08

0:14
day for Nebraska so we're going to get into that with our takeaways our grades talk about some sleepers we are going to
0:19
address some of the other things uh Terren knon leaving his job officially some more transfer portal Rumblings but
0:25
all in all we're going to focus on signing day and what was a pretty productive day for the Huskers before we do that please please hit the like
0:30
button hit the Subscribe button get into the comment section let us know what you think about um Nebraska's work on
0:35
Signing Day and Danny uh one day after a busy day how are you doing and and how are your thoughts on uh what the CL what
0:42
on the class that the Husker signed yesterday I'm doing good my fingers hurt a little bit from typing so much lately
0:47
but uh I'm doing pretty good and I'm very happy with what we accomplished on Signing Day um you
0:53
know truth be told I always thought Michael Terry was kind of a long shot and I'm happy with the wide receivers
1:00
that we have uh Jeremiah Jones Isaiah mosy um Cortez Mills obviously one of my
1:05
favorite guys in the class and um you know Mills and mosy I've been following since since last year so and I always
1:13
had said oh if you can get these two that would be awesome and they did so I'm really happy about that and um I'm
1:19
happy that we were able to um Pony up the money for uh Jeremiah Jones so
1:24
overall I am pretty happy and I'm excited about this linebacker group too in particular when you look at
1:30
you know needing to remake the defense as a whole we're going to need to do that so I'm happy that we were able to get some uh some really talented
1:37
linebackers and you know some really talented players you know a corner and Bryson Weber who we desperately need in
1:44
terms of depth and uh yeah so overall I'm pretty happy I am really happy too I
1:49
think Nebraska did a really good job in this class and um one thing I'd like to talk about and and focus on is the Blue
1:54
Chip ratio you've probably heard me talk about that before well if you look at this class Nebraska's Blue Chip ratio
2:00
55% 11 of their 20 signes are blue chips according to the 247 Sports composite
2:07
rankings so when you have composite all four you know recruiting class or you know recruiting Services together
2:12
Nebraska's got 11 Blue Chips so I mean to me that's a massive step forward last
2:17
year last year was kind of skewed because they had eight blue chips and they signed a million kids you know so
2:22
they're their sign their total class ended up being 32 so I mean their Blue Chip ratio was like 25% but probably
2:28
closer to like 30 you know if you take out the Walk-Ons because they usually don't count Walk-Ons as part of your
2:33
blue chip ratio but and you look at where they got them man I mean Edge you know linebacker defensive line
2:41
cornerback wide receiver quarterback I mean they got him at all the key positions that you need you know TJ
2:46
Latif I mean uh you know jaryan or yeah jaryan Parker um Malcolm Simpson a
2:53
defensive tackle you know Cade patriach Bryson Weber who you mentioned and then three blue chip wide receivers in one
3:00
class for Nebraska football three blue chip wide receivers and maybe uh some people have didn't catch that but
3:06
Jeremiah Jones was announced as wide receiver by Nebraska so he's going to start out at wide receivers and we're
3:12
talking about you know missing Michael Terry you know he's that kind of that 63 dude but you know Jeremiah Jones is 6'4
3:18
and this guy can play I think he's one of the most underrated players in the country and man you just think about that Hall with Cortez Mills and Isaiah
3:26
mosy and Jones and I have to tell you if if I had my choice if it was a choice
3:31
between Michael Terry and Cortez Mills to me it's not a choice I would take Cortez Mills 10 times out of 10 yeah I
3:37
don't yeah I don't care about the ranking like I think Michael Terry has a lot has more potential you know he can
3:43
do more things probably but I think Cortez Mills is going to come in here ready to play so as long as they you
3:49
know getting him to me that that that made Signing Day a win um whatever else happened getting Cortez Mills was a win
3:55
and quite honestly I wouldn't be be surprised to see Michael Terry in the portal in a year or two I let's be honest here Texas is loaded at receiver
4:01
and you know we are too but at the same time I I feel like you know Texas has higher caliber athlete right now and you
4:08
know to me Cortez Mills like he is just an absolute athletic freak he can get that separation that we said that you
4:15
know the these wide receivers needed to have and uh he I was so happy when when
4:21
he finally signed on the dotted line because you know I've been a big fan and uh you know again it's establishing that
4:27
that flow Braska pipeline a little bit here and that's a that's definitely bodess well for the uh wide receiv
4:35
receiver room in the future I mean you talk about a room let's just hypothetically say no starting lineups
4:40
or whatever of jakori Barney Cortez Mills Isaiah mosy you have you know all
4:45
these talented wide receivers and you know you know surrounded with a
4:51
quarterback and Dylan Rola who can throw the football down the field and man like the future of the wide receiver room is
4:57
very very bright yeah and you know Carter Nelson which I'm still not sure if he's going to stay as a receiver or
5:03
as tight end I mean um they've got you know burer I think has done a really good job at tight end too and they've
5:09
got some other exciting players there I mean keln Smith has generated some Buzz Isaiah McMorris I mean David Hall I mean
5:16
looking back to last year you know you thinking about Hall and MC Morris like the last two classes Nebraska signed
5:22
five Blue Chip wide receivers yeah and that's not even including Quinn Clark who is a guy that Dana hogerson is
5:28
really high on who can do all the things I mean Quinn Clark like you talked about just from an athletic standpoint running
5:33
jumping catching whatever like he can do it all so Nebraska really if you talk
5:39
about if they just hit on you know Jeremiah Jones like if if Jeremiah Jones
5:44
or Quinn Clark if one of those guys becomes a regular contributor like a big big physical receiver on the outside
5:49
this wide receiver C is going to have everything that it could possibly need and that's a pretty exciting prospect
5:55
with hogerson calling the plays and Rola throwing the football the next two years yeah let's be be honest tequil schz
6:00
coaching up the wide receivers I have a lot of confidence him I think he's really I think he's going to be really good I mean he coached tank Dell at
6:07
Houston so that's enough of a selling point for me right there and and you know it it was kind of interesting at
6:14
this point last year when we were talking about our wide receiver needs we said we needed a couple transfer portal
6:19
wide receivers because we weren't sure about the depth and this that and the other thing I you know I I believe it
6:24
was even on uh last show I said we might need one more transfer portal wide receiver but I'm not so sure about that
6:30
now I think you know I know they're freshman and I know they're young but I would be kind of interested just to kind of roll with you know the younger wide
6:37
receivers for now and forgo a transfer portal wide receiver um the only thing I wouldn't uh
6:44
you know I wouldn't mind if um he brought one of those Kentucky dudes with him because I know a couple of of
6:49
Kentucky guys have transferred so just because they're I don't they probably don't run the same system in Kentucky so
6:55
I shouldn't say that but just uh having that familiarity because I think maybe like I said maybe one veteran but you're
7:01
but you're right I mean talent wise they don't I mean maybe from like an experience standpoint but this team
7:06
doesn't need like an influx of talent they've got these this this wide receiver room's got the talent so that
7:12
that I think is an exciting thing and I guess I kind of mention it but my other takeaway is just the fact that I thought
7:19
that Matt Rule and the staff closed really well especially considering that you know your defensive coordinator left
7:24
on literally four days before Signing Day and kind of everybody knew that Terence knon was leaving I mean when
7:30
James Williams left I think that kind of was a pretty big you know because they were so tight and and it's kind of weird
7:37
that that knon stuck around for a couple of days before he announced maybe that help Nebraska but you know they had
7:42
Malcolm Simpson Kate patriach Dawson Merritt Christian Jones Bryson Weber all
7:48
these dudes just lost their defensive coordinator and they didn't I mean have a have a really a possibility of losing
7:54
any of them they got all of them so I mean I think that's a really good recruiting job by Matt Rule and so you
8:00
know when he talked to the P went to the podium yesterday I mean I think he was pretty excited about this class and and
8:05
I think he should be I think there's some guys who are going to make a really um you know make an immediate impact and
8:12
we've already kind of talked about Dawson or um Cortez Mills but I guess I'll start because I kind of teased it
8:17
there with my brain uh you know brain fart but Dawson Meritt is definitely someone that I can see as as a a player
8:23
making an immediate impact next year I mean Matt rule told him yesterday like get here ready to play and I think you
8:29
know some of these guys that we've seen leave you know in the transfer portal the linebackers um I think he does have
8:35
a chance I think him and Christian Jones could have a chance to come in and play right away and you add those two with Willis M and Vincent Shavers and man
8:42
that linebacking core could be really impressive and you know I think honestly a guy like Malcolm Simpson has a chance
8:48
to play right away too I mean you look at I feel like he was one of the more undervalued kind of recruits throughout
8:55
the whole process like I'm not sure how Nebraska managed to trying to just you know go under the radar and get him
9:02
because I you know I remember writing about him at the time like who's this Malcolm Simpson guy he's pretty good and you know I think uh I think you know a
9:10
guy like Malcolm Simpson is the type that you can kind of build your defensive line core around and then you had Tyson Terry and you know it does say
9:17
a lot that a lot of these kids stuck around you know with the Tony white and Terrence knon movement and not to go off
9:25
on a tangent here but for all those who preach player loyalty and transfer portal you know we hate this Terence
9:31
knon was literally on a on a um on a you know a television program or whatever
9:37
you want to call it talking about how excited he is for the defensive line and then he prompted left for Florida State so miss me with that
9:43
BS yeah exactly it's you know yeah coaches are are leaving just as much as
9:50
players so I mean it is what it is and um yeah I'm not I'm not mad at any of these guys and but you know what frankly
9:56
at the end of the day I'm not that mad about anybody leaving I know some people are freaking out about all the transfer
10:01
portal departures but you know like I said on on the social medias Nebraska
10:07
hasn't lost a single player who was all conference last year because you know what they only had one on the entire team and that's got to change and I
10:13
think it is going to change but so let's not you know let's not cry about I mean I want to say let's not cry about spiled
10:20
milk but I mean let's not cry about spiled milk that was a day old you know what I mean it wasn't the it wasn't it
10:25
wasn't the top shelf that's not the milk you want to pour in your Mac and Cheese you know what I'm saying like you can tell the people who really understand
10:31
the transfer portal and the people who don't yeah I mean I'm not trying to to rag on princewell but the dude had half
10:37
a sack last year and he was replaced on the depth chart so like he either could have stayed and tried to win that job
10:43
back or he could go somewhere else I mean it's not rocket science here people like you know it's just don't freak out
10:50
about stuff you don't need to freak out about yeah if Dylan hit the portal sure that would be something to freak out about but he's not you know so outside
10:58
of that like there ain't anybody that I'm really that worried about on this roster you know what I mean outside of the guys that were just signed like in
11:04
the past couple years so Jan's gonna have some side new chice to play with too why would he leave um yeah exactly
11:09
Dana hogerson is talking about getting getting more in the portal too and I I don't know if it's going to be at the skill positions but I did like what he
11:16
said though about trying to bring in a bunch of guys 20 to 30 guys for to and
11:21
and and let me be clear on that cuz the because the quote itself was kind of unclear he said 20 to 30 guys to bring
11:26
on campus that doesn't mean they're going to add 20 to 30 that means they're going to bring them on campus so and
11:32
honestly can I just like go off on a little rant here for a second people are complaining about Marcus saterfield
11:37
salary as a tight end Coach who gives a [ __ ] are you paying the money probably not who cares oh he continues to steal
11:45
Millions for Nebraska he's the tight end Coach who cares if he can coach the tight end's good then that's fine I mean
11:51
and I said something the uh last night I said you know I think he handled the whole thing well getting demoted from
11:56
offensive coordinator and going to Titus coach he's like oh yeah because couldn't get a you know a college job and this is
12:01
the last thing he has and you know he's just holding on and he's stealing money from the University who cares it's not
12:07
your money I can almost guarantee it and you know it's just like stop bitching stop bitching all right sorry Chris go
12:14
ahead back to your professional analysis and I can be quiet yeah I don't
12:20
understand that I mean uh to me yeah S I have no problem if saterfield stays on I don't care what his salary is cuz he
12:26
wasn't I mean sure he was making I guess a little over a million a year but yeah I think that's probably going to get you
12:32
know that's probably going to get changed if he's tight end's coach and that that hasn't even been announced yet so we don't even like I mean probably
12:39
Dan hogerson wants him like that's the other thing too that Dan hogerson wanted him so if he wants him on sta if cfi's
12:45
cool with that he's he's handled the thing he's he's handled the job very professionally I thought he handled it
12:50
pretty well and I gained a lot of respect for him because of that honestly yeah and just because like you know just
12:56
because he's not the best play caller that doesn't mean he's not a good football coach some people just aren't great at calling plays it's kind of an
13:02
art form and some people are really good at it and some people aren't you know what I mean that doesn't mean that they don't understand the game and they don't
13:08
understand schemes and they can't help you game plan they just sometimes they don't have the feel of like hey what do
13:14
I need to call here on Third and six like Dana hogerson has that you know and maybe Marcus safield doesn't and but you
13:19
know what at the same time like I said like he got fired from from being a play caller so what is he really his only
13:25
choice if he wants to be a coach is to stay in coaching and try to get better at it and how's he gonna you know what
13:30
better way to do that than to learn from somebody who's pretty good at it that's better than him Dana hogerson so if he wants to stay then you know what I
13:37
respect him and yeah I I don't see you know I don't think yeah if he wasn't going to contribute to the staff in a
13:43
positive way hogerson would have his ass out the door so like you know Maguire you know yeah exactly yeah there's a
13:50
reason Garrett McGuire is staying here and yeah maybe he shouldn't have been he didn't do a great I'm not going to say
13:56
that he could have he could have done a better job as wide receivers coach you know he was put in a tough spot but he's
14:01
made he's a very good recruiter I mean we've got a lot of these guys because of him Jeremiah Jones recruitment was up in
14:07
the air because he was worried that Garrett McGuire wasn't going to be here so let's give Garrett McGuire his due on
14:13
the recruiting Trail and again a very smart move I think by Matt rule to keep him on staff and keep developing a guy
14:18
that's I I do think is pretty smart he just wasn't quite ready for the job because I do think Maguire's age makes
14:24
him a little bit more relatable and I think the same thing with shorts because he's not he's you know coach too and I
14:30
don't know one more thing and then you can you know be more professional people are saying I I saw oh you know Matt
14:36
rules giving control full control of the offense to Dana he's absolving responsibility no he's letting Dana have
14:43
the keys to whatever he wants and that way he can coach the game and and manage things a little bit better that's what
14:49
head coaches do I mean a good head coach will be a CEO on game day he won't be
14:54
involved in the offense too much he'll let the offensive coordinator do what he wants defensive coordinator do what he wants I mean so this isn't Matt rule you
15:02
know absolving himself of the offense so much as it is just making sure you know
15:07
his offensive coordinator gets all the tools needed to succeed I can't believe people even
15:13
complain I can't believe people even saying this like yeah of course like that happens all the time every like
15:20
look at the NFL okay my Green Bay Packers Matt lefur every every defensive coordinator that he has has complete
15:26
control of the defense like that's that's what he does he he runs the offense he's the head coach of the team
15:32
but basically the head the defensive coordinator is the head coach of the defense and it's like that's just that's how you do things as a head coach and
15:39
yeah when you know when Jim Harbaugh hired Mike McDonald he ran the defense for Michigan that's what he that's what
15:45
they do you have to hire the right people and uh yeah there's no reason that Matt rule needs to sit there and be overly involved in the offense and
15:52
that's not him not taking accountability for it that's just handing the offense over to a guy who's more than capable of
15:58
running the offense so yeah that's a that's a really dumb thing feel quite friendly but yeah well yeah it's like
16:06
that's a really dumb criticism but people people want to be I don't know some people are really just angry they're angry trolls and it's like I
16:13
relax and take a take a breath of fresh air touch some grass like I get it but
16:19
you know I get it but at the same time it's like come on and you can and you can tell the people who don't understand
16:24
how modern college football works but uh but anyway um back to more positive of things overall I'm I'm pretty happy with
16:31
what Nebraska was able to accomplish and um like you said before that blue chip ratio is something I'm really impressed
16:37
by because I think this is you know the first class in quite a while where they had more four stars than three stars so
16:43
that's a step in the right direction coming off of a season that let's be honest we struggled at the end of yeah I
16:50
I meant to look it up to see when the last time it was but because it takes a lot of math and Counting you know you have to count through each one so I
16:56
don't know I don't know when it was but it's been a long time and um in terms of who can make an impact next year I said
17:02
Dawson Merritt I think Christian Jones and I think Cortez Mills those are three guys that I think and another guy too um
17:09
Kate patriach I think Simpson and Kate patriach but but mostly Kate patriach
17:14
just because he has that pass rush ability and I think Nebraska's going to need that but you know it's hard for
17:20
defensive lineman to make you know impacts right away and I do have to say though um when don't you do you have
17:26
anybody else on your your kind of immediate impact that I didn't mention I was just going to say mosy too I mean
17:32
you could throw mosy in there um and you know something tells me that Bryson
17:38
Weber could be an impact player um really good and he is really good and he
17:43
I again he was another guy I thought was under recruited and I think we're going to need help in the secondary and um
17:50
depending on what what scheme you run what defensive coordinator we have he could have a big role next year cuz
17:55
people well and I don't want to keep going back to this but people were worried about how the secondary played last year in theory you know heading
18:02
into last season before you know the BL Hill injury and stuff you had Tommy Hill
18:07
you had BL Hill so when it came time to getting a transfer Corner in June we
18:13
thought that uh say right would be enough and unfortunately it wasn't so
18:18
you know I'm looking forward for the program to continue building that depth that corner and um I'm excited about
18:25
Weber I really am yeah I think you know Mario Buford Weber some of these kids
18:31
from Texas like those are the guys that you want those the kind of athletes you want playing cornerback so um yeah I
18:37
think uh I I agree with all those guys I think they can all make an impact next year um so biggest sleepers before I
18:42
want to grade the class but before we get to that I want to get to our biggest sleepers now this can not not necessarily like about next year
18:49
longterm like three years from now who are we going to be talking about in this class that we don't talk about enough right now and I'll start because I think
18:55
one of the guys is Tyson Terry I've been pounding the table for this dude for years um I love what he brings to the P
19:02
to the table he's going to stay and finish his high school wrestling career go for the fourth time for uh fourth state championship but 275 pounds I just
19:09
love wrestlers man this kid's tough I think he's way better than his ranking and I think he's going to end up being a
19:15
really solid starter for Nebraska on the defensive line and um the other guy that I don't think we talk about enough that
19:21
I've that you know I love is Jan Parker I love jaran Parker I've compar compared him to Aman green and I think maybe not
19:28
this year but but maybe by 2026 he might be our starting running back I guess my
19:34
biggest sleeper would be Conor Booth I mean I feel like he gets a little B slept on because he's not exactly the flashy running back from Texas or this
19:41
that and the other thing but man he's good I mean he had a tremendous season last year um I I I believe he had over
19:50
15 touchdowns if I'm not mistaken um he had yeah he had a ton of everything I
19:58
yeah know had a ton of everything and he was able to make an impact in the passing game so um I'm really excited to
20:03
see what he and Parker bring to the table and you know give that running back room some depth yeah Connor Booth I
20:10
definitely is a sleeper but yeah that that running back room jaryan Parker and Conor Booth he is really exciting and um
20:17
I'm excited to see how he does play I think he what he plays eight-man football I want to say so you know people Overlook those eight-man players
20:23
but I'm telling you those guys can play we'll see that with Carter Nelson in the future I think um oh yeah but yeah I
20:29
really agree with um that one in Houston um Torres Cena Torres yeah I he's he's
20:36
another sleeper to me I think you know he's going to come in and probably be your starting center at some point and I
20:43
I really I really like him and getting the top ranked player out of Hawaii we've done that two years in a row now
20:48
and um I'm fine with making that um a regular thing because the 2026 top rank player I think is like a fourstar
20:55
offensive tackle who's like 150th overall I'm he's already I think he's already visited Nebraska I'm trying to
21:01
think of his name but at any rate um I like the pipeline they're building there and and I do feel like you know as a guy
21:07
that you know is ranked like in the 500s I think he's going to really outplay his ranking and be a solid multi-year
21:12
starter for Nebraska I agree and with this class too I think you have a lot of UnderArmour
21:18
all-americans and All-Star game um nominees too so I'm excited to see them
21:24
play at a kind of a national you know All-Star game type of as well all right
21:30
man so let's uh kind of wrapping up our thoughts here what what let's get out the old grading the old grading scale
21:37
like we uh used to back in the in the education days but uh what what would your grade be looking at this class 20
21:43
signes 11 Blue Chips I'm looking at it overall um what would your letter grade be uh a A+ A+ would be my grade um you
21:53
know obviously missing Michael Terry just from a athletic standpoint hurts a little bit but it wasn't you know expected and they checked all the boxes
22:00
they filled all the needs and they did a really good job like you said earlier of keeping these kids home amidst defensive
22:06
coaching changes so I think that speaks a lot to the character of this class as well yeah I mean I'm GNA give him an um
22:13
I'm gonna give him an A2 um I thought about an A minus but you know I think that they did a pretty good job I mean
22:18
you look at they tried to get a BigTime offensive tackle didn't work out but they still uh flipped Juju marks a
22:24
four-star tackle so I mean they got a blue chip player there um they got blue chip player players on the D line secondary wide receiver quarterback W
22:31
you know all the key positions that you really need Nebraska really did a nice job and even some of the spots that they
22:36
didn't they I feel like they recruited players that have you know a lot of upside I mean like Jackson Carpenter
22:42
like Pierce mberry um Tyson Terry Connor Booth like some of their lower ranked players I feel are really gonna you know
22:48
kind of outplay their ranking and I know a lot of those guys yeah Brian tap was a guy that has a lot of uh a lot of upside
22:54
as well um you know kahin Torres like we just mentioned so like you look at some of their three stars and like they're I
23:00
feel like they're really good players so um you know the the one thing I wish
23:05
they had got Chase lten but I don't really think that that's you know I don't know what they could have done besides what they in terms of their
23:11
recruiting strategy they got him on campus a bunch they recruited him really hard like so they lost that recruitment
23:17
but I don't think there's anything else they could have done about that um you know and yeah Michael Terry's kind of
23:22
the same boat Michael Terry really out of all the guys like David Sanders and uh you know the guy last year trying to
23:29
think Brandon Baker I I think that Michael Terry is the most guilty of just having Nebraska around to try to drum up
23:36
excitement because why else would you wear those gloves like a week before it just felt to me like Nebraska wasn't
23:42
that serious of a player he just knew that that kind of garnered more fan attention so it feels like to me he
23:47
could have committed to Texas like three months ago yeah no know looking back on it now I wonder why his recruitment took
23:53
so long but um yeah no overall I'm pretty happy I I I wish we could have
23:59
gotten Terry but I'm not necessarily losing sleep over it because again that Texas wide receiver room is loaded and
24:05
who knows if he'll be on the roster for the entirety of the four years or he was just using us to uh get his nil off or
24:12
where he wanted it I'm not sure but seem like Nebraska got used a little bit there but I mean whatever it's F it's
24:18
fine you know you got to run the race and uh but but overall I mean I I there's not a lot I can look back at
24:24
this class and regret and signing yeah if Nebraska can sign you know 55% Blue
24:30
Chips you know for like the next three years like that's exactly the kind of class you need to sign to be a perennial
24:35
playoff team you know bud Elliott the Blue Chip ratio he does that every year it's going to be interesting now because
24:41
he's done it in a sense that like you know he puts out the teams that can win national championships and according to
24:47
his formula and it hasn't been proven wrong yet not a single team you know basically in this recruiting area has
24:52
won a national championship that's had you know less than 50% of their roster be blue chips so you know recruits
24:59
transfers yada yada so Nebraska's getting there they've got 19 Blue Chips in the last two classes and you know
25:05
Daniel kin left but he wasn't one of those blue chips you know so like they've still got all those guys and if
25:10
they can develop that Core Group those 19 players and supplement them with some
25:16
transfer portal guys like that is the class that is the core that can get Nebraska football back to where it needs
25:21
to be where it should be and and that doesn't mean winning national titles to be clear that means like ranked in the
25:27
top 25 playoff contention you know8 n to 10 wins that that's what I what that's
25:32
what I see is Nebraska being back now I'm curious to see you know who the 25
25:39
to 30 kids they're going to be bringing on campus to you know see if to see if there's a fit I'm kind of curious to see
25:44
what names will come out of that because that kind of makes me excited because you see you know hogerson said it and
25:50
you can bet that he's trying to mold his offense the way he wants it yeah so yeah Dana hogerson at the
25:56
press conference you know yesterday said that he would like to see Nebraska bring in about 2530 transfers not going to
26:01
sign that many but they want to bring in a bunch of transfers and then if you haven't seen it Terrence knon did um you
26:08
know officially not officially leave I guess but it was reported by Sean Callahan so you know that's that's a done deal as far as him leading and to
26:15
be honest that upsets me more than Tony white um just you know it's hard to it's hard to replace coordinators I said that
26:22
the other day but dline and o line coaches are hard to replace too so Matt rues gota he got to hire a good
26:28
defensive coordinator and more importantly I think he's got to hire a good dline coach because recruiting and developing D lineman and O linemen I
26:34
think are probably the most important things in your program outside a quarterback yeah and um it takes
26:41
coaching to do that you know absolutely and um for for for everybody preaching
26:46
player loyalty coaches are just as bad so there is no loyalty in sports anymore and uh the sooner everybody accepts that
26:53
the better yeah coaches are worse sometimes yeah I honestly like they'll bounds from and I have no problem with
26:59
it man like like I said I wrote in uh you know my thoughts on Terence KN and I'm like good for him and if he's going
27:05
to Florida State and he's getting more money and maybe he's getting like you know like some title like Run game c you
27:11
know what I mean they make up those they're not made up titles but you know what I mean they add titles to your name to make it look fancier you know so so
27:18
if he's getting more money in a fancier title like how can you blame the guy you would do it you know anybody would do it
27:23
so I mean I I thank Terence KN and Tony white for what they did and um I'm glad that they didn't poach our recruits on
27:29
the way out the door I mean that would have pissed me off if they took Malcolm Simpson and K patriach they did do that so you know I mean at the end of the day
27:37
like it's it's part it's just part of the game it happens and uh I don't but I don't think that Tony White's going to
27:43
be like a massive massive loss I just you know I think he was a good defensive coordinator but you know we had five
27:49
pretty mediocre teams that put up 25 points or more against us and if we're going to be if Nebraska's going to be a
27:54
playoff team like they're just going to have to have a really good defense that's just going to be the formula
27:59
yeah and I'm wondering when a u defensive coordinator hire will be announced uh I know John Butler is
28:06
getting in audition by calling the plays during the bowl game but um I'm it's not
28:12
that I would be opposed to John Butler but I'd like to see somebody from outside the program come in yeah I've kind of been up in the air
28:19
about it I don't know I like I don't necessarily the idea of Butler and um I know that I want to say was it Tim ver I
28:27
always forget how to pronounce his name you know ver or the guy from Rivals I just call him Tim veries and I know
28:33
that's wrong but that's how I read it so I don't know but anyways Tim from Rivals we're just gonna say Tim from Rivals you
28:38
know who I'm talking about the dude he's got cool hair so he does good work he does really good work too does really
28:44
good work but he kind of said like the way he was reading the tea leaves and some of the things that were point out
28:49
to him made it seem like that John Butler was going to be the guy um and that maybe that was kind of the plan
28:55
with Tony white potentially leaving and and that does make sense I mean John Butler has been in the NFL he needs a
29:00
coordinator job so um it's it's interesting I'm not sure if if Matt ru's like I know he's talked to probably
29:07
other coaches but I don't know if he how much he's like looking at this as a chance to kind of evaluate John Butler
29:13
on the job and see that's what I think he does I think the one thing is you
29:18
know if you could have a similar type scheme you know if if Butler could basically keep running the same I don't think it's the worst thing in the world
29:24
I don't I don't think the scheme was necessarily the issue um just because I
29:30
know it's the 335 but like they were pretty multiple with it so I mean I don't know if that was the biggest issue
29:36
per se and and not I don't know sometimes it's I don't love having to go to an entirely new system if we go to a
29:41
new coordinator but I guess the time it is the time to do it right now so I mean
29:47
with with a lot of younger type of players but um I don't know I I think like I said you know Jim Leonard Elijah
29:54
Robinson I mean Elijah Robinson probably would be my number one target just because it would be night I think it
30:00
would help alleviate the teren knon loss a little bit but maybe that's a little maybe that's a little shortsighted maybe
30:05
we just need somebody who's a really Elite defensive play caller but he did do a pretty good job I don't think it's
30:10
short siding I mean the thing to me is that does that like we had a bunch of
30:16
players in my opinion playing on a position like like um Maris Buford never
30:22
should have been playing Corner yeah you know Malcolm hardzog you know was on a
30:27
corner as much as you know he tried to be his size was a factor and so I'm
30:33
interested like I said I think that Tommy Hill and you know quite honestly blah Hill injuries really really really
30:39
messed up the secondary so I know people want to point the fingers and say you know John Butler didn't do a good job
30:45
with the secondary but I think there were multiple factors that led to that that were Beyond his control and look
30:51
how Tommy Hill came on man I mean he's who he's got to get some credit for that you know like Tommy Hill was not like
30:58
like he he I mean he was sitting around in in July and nobody wanted him he basically came to Nebraska because
31:04
nobody wanted him after he sat in the portal for months a former topper hun recruit and Nebraska was like yeah I
31:10
guess we'll take a shot on you and he turned in had a great season so give John Butler credit for that like for for sure and uh the thing I think people
31:17
forget about B Hill he's only this was only a sophomore year so he's gonna be back next year um hopefully s wres back
31:23
I think Tommy Hills I don't think he's got eligibility left not that I'd have to double check but I think he's
31:29
medically I wouldn't want him to play either like at this point I'd rather him get healthy you know what I mean so uh
31:35
because that playing fres is brutal yeah it is brutal I yeah I have that and just
31:41
walking around sometimes it sucks but um s W's a junior so hopefully if we get
31:46
him back um that will I think really alleviate things you've got blly Hill and then you've have you know like
31:51
Buford um we you got some of those younger guys who can compete for time um you know even like Donovan Jones um it'd
31:58
be nice to see you know cayb Benning some of those guys start to get into the mix this year yeah I think cayb Benning
32:04
like like if you had Caleb Benning and then you move um Maris Buford to safety
32:10
like that would be that would be ideal I think yeah and I don't like I don't mind Buford or hog in that like slot role
32:19
that because you can you can have a safety you know like you know Big Nickel like I don't mind that but yeah those
32:24
guys on the outside that's that's a that's a tough spot for them to be in and saw that this year yeah absolutely I
32:29
just think they were playing out of position and I'm hoping that gets fixed next year I think they are good players because we saw hard soog kind of really
32:36
thrive in what was it 2022 like as a as a solid you know kind of safety hybrid
32:42
type player so I think as long as they get to their correct positions they'll be okay and I just think he's a he's the
32:48
kind of guy that um he's better when he when he can kind of see the ball you know he's a safety like when you're a
32:54
cornerback right like you're kind of turning your back to the ball covering but like he's a he can play the ball
32:59
like if there's one thing Malcolm hartog can do like he's a ball Hawk and so I feel like he should be more of a free
33:06
safety type and kind of just like roaming around back there and maybe he doesn't have like the best range but
33:11
that dude can find the football and if you give him a chance like he's a good tackler like he can do those things but
33:16
manto man coverage that's not that's not what he does best so I agree I just gonna say he can almost do like better
33:23
when he's kind of like doing his own thing as a free safety kind of freelancing just finding the football making tackles like having him line up
33:30
on the outside I feel like restricts what he does best at times yeah there's different like some people have ball SK
33:36
like it's harder to play the ball in the air you know what I mean like that play against USC where he had to turn his head and like that's harder than as
33:42
opposed to like me being a safety seeing the ball and like making a break on it like he's really good at that and I feel like at the right position you know he
33:50
he could make a solid impact next season absolutely absolutely um let's see T Kai
33:55
Wallen I think is leaving um I've I yeah there's there's tons of stuff on the message board so I don't want to go
34:02
there but we've got you know another week before the portal opens I guess not even that five days so are there any
34:08
other are you worried about is there any other like players that you're worried about like is there um is there anybody
34:14
like is there a list of players like outside of Dylan is there a list of players like that you just do not want to see leading Nebraska via the portal
34:21
that you're like like this is like if they start leaving then you might freak out are there any like besides rayola
34:27
who who could possibly leave do you think that would like freak you out not possibly but just like in a super
34:33
hypothetical situation uh Vincent Shavers um Willis mcge I mean those are
34:39
the only guys that I could think of that would really freak me out I don't want to lose the Florida Barne and Barney the FL basically the FL the FL guys yeah
34:46
pretty much those guys yeah me that but um because I feel like they're the ones that probably like Barney's probably
34:53
getting approached I'm sure Shavers has got approached I'm sure Mah's gotten approached you know definitely get approach Barney's a stud and I think
35:00
honestly they were a big reason maybe not directly but indirectly why Mills came here yeah I definitely didn't hurt I
35:07
definitely it did not hurt at all so and they had success too so I mean you think about Mills and I just keep thinking
35:13
about Cortez Mills and jakori Barney on the field at the same time and that's GNA be a problem for defensive
35:19
coordinators so I keep thinking I keep thinking about uh the Oklahoma coach who
35:24
said if you take visits we'll pull your scholarship well you know what that kind of backfired on you yeah that strategy
35:31
doesn't work yeah you need to uh need to change that strategy uh can remember that I'm I'm the worst with names right
35:38
now the Oklahoma coach what is his venables God Brent venables but that's that's the old Dabo Sweeney of course
35:44
now dabo's you know trying to act like he wants to play he was always for paying players when he was always
35:49
against it so yeah if the the gymnastics some of these coaches do is always funny
35:55
to me with these High Caliber players you're not teaching them a lesson they will go somewhere else and another team
36:00
will want them so you dumb asses what are you doing yeah like that old that old school oh my God it would you you
36:08
probably maybe haven't seen it but did you see uh Brian Kelly just ranting about nil yesterday that I always love I
36:16
I always love Brian Kelly rant and a Brian Kelly complaining session and I'm sorry he's from Western Massachusetts
36:22
but um yeah I can't stand Brian Kelly I mean it's like you either adapt or you fall behind and there's a lot of coaches
36:28
that have adapted well and you know I think it's just you know a lot of these bigger coaches are getting mad that
36:34
other teams can catch up and you know yeah I agree that's the funny thing is
36:39
like all these like LSU and SEC people were mad that Michigan like bought that quarterback it's like you guys been
36:45
doing that for you you can't like nobody in the SEC can get mad about people buying players like you guys have been
36:51
doing that for decades so it was like save me with the Holier the now stuff
36:56
well and it's kind of like not to go on a tangent here but it's like this whole bill bich media tour every week where he
37:02
talks about the Patriots so well you took Cole strange in the first round there pal so I don't know if you're you
37:07
know you know exactly absolved from criticism either Nick Sabin complaining about nil I mean Hello P me Kettle so
37:15
yeah that exactly I did love I did love when
37:20
somebody shared the bill bellich picture when uh with him in the Nebraska shirt
37:25
like hey we need a new DC he yeah no thanks because he'd want to take control over the program and he'd
37:30
want to recruit and then he'd run the team into the ground again yeah as long as he doesn't recruit the players I'm I'm okay with it it'll be interesting to
37:37
see if he gets a head coaching job next year I don't know I mean maybe he could go to college that way in case him and
37:42
his girlfriend don't work out he can scout new Talent that's I was say he's been he's he's getting the young girls
37:49
so I don't know maybe maybe he needs to focus I don't know maybe they can help him with the develop you know drafting
37:54
players I don't know cuz he he he does not know how to draft players anymore that was his biggest that was his biggest problem he needs to make sure
38:01
his sons get his money and not his girlfriend yeah yes yeah what's his Steve is that one of them the guy St Bri
38:09
Steve's like what the hell man it's like I really I really love the 72y old man
38:14
and I connect with him emotionally uh some of that may be true but we all know you want that back yeah I mean in
38:20
respect like respect to that you know I mean you can't you know you can't hate the player hate the game you know I mean
38:26
exactly you got you got to play the cards that God gave you you know yeah I mean if I you know if I was in that
38:32
situation and I could land 72-year old bill bich then you know what I would do it yeah I mean he's probably got a nice
38:38
house on the cape down there and uh yeah so um I don't know how we got on to that
38:43
necessarily I know we've got on a really strange tangent here so sorry everybody luckily that was near the end of this
38:49
podcast so probably about from 35 minutes on you can just skip yeah just
38:55
just don't even listen we should have a block of time just dedicated hey if you don't want to listen to our rambling
39:00
stop here and then maybe that will help but uh yeah start put out on the chapter breakups like here's where you can stop
39:06
listening Bill Bill Bel girlfriend rambling just a random section in in the
39:12
podcast but uh no I'm I'm very happy with this class overall again I'll say
39:17
and um you know I think the level of talent in this class like you said and
39:24
we mentioned before it's a lot higher in terms of four stars than previous classes so um you know they got the guys
39:30
I wanted in mosy and Mills and you know they got a guy in TJ Latif who I thought you know was part of the reason why
39:36
Danny kin entered the portal because I I I always felt that once Latif committed it was kind of gonna be an uphill battle
39:41
for kin so yeah I agree and it I think at least you know kind of replaces um you know
39:48
that cin with Latif kind of that guy who can learn behind Dylan for a couple years and then take over that starting
39:54
job I they may need to get a veteran in the portal gramstad doesn't come back because you really wanted to like bring
40:00
HRI harburg back yeah but play him at a different position so I mean like I don't know about that but I mean I I
40:07
love hinr harberg so like whatever I think he can find like he'll find a way to contribute but I don't know if he's
40:12
gonna ever make the NFL but I mean that's just me well no I think like I think for a lot of these guys like a lot
40:18
of these you know sixth seventh even eighth year players it's just about playing for the love of the game at this
40:23
point yeah um I mean would you want harberg you know having a
40:30
roster spot at this juncture if they can't find a position for him and it's only quarterback um yeah probably I mean I I
40:38
probably would just because you know something happens worst Cas like he
40:43
can come in and play I know I know he has the limitations but I mean he's still a veteran he still knows the
40:49
offense um I still I still feel like they could get more out of him as like a runner type athlete maybe holders can
40:56
you know um man but just like put that dude on special teams like I I feel like that
41:01
guy like I know he's a quarterback but he reminds me so much of the Saints the Saints quarterback and they played him
41:07
on special teams yeah Tamm Hill put him put hin carberg on freaking kickoff man that dude will go down there and kicks
41:13
him ass like I just I feel like he could find something to do so I don't really have a problem with him piing a roster
41:18
spot especially if they but but if they're going to have him practice another position they need to get
41:24
another quarterback if Graham stead isn't coming back that's my thought and he also gives something for the fans to
41:30
hold on to when Dylan Rola has a bad game and they're thinking he can add an immediate spark of quarterback so there is that Chris uh the backup the backup
41:37
quarterback's always popular man even even when it's uh behind you know Dylan Rola so part of me wonders what Danny
41:44
could have done but um I definitely understand why he left I mean you know a
41:50
lot of tough decisions are going to have to be made and you know I think I think honestly go just please do not go to
41:56
Iowa that is my one one request of Daniel kinus please please do not go to
42:01
Iowa that's the only anywhere else I don't care maybe Iowa State they just
42:08
got manky though so I mean he's probably in the same position I wish he landed manky but um yeah mansky even Michigan
42:14
like sniffed around because when they thought for a sec they weren't going to get Bryce Underwoods so they started sniffing around other quarterbacks and
42:19
that's who they went to was manky so you know but I think I think I mean I think
42:25
Kaylin will end up being a good quarterback I do like TJ latif's arm Talent a little bit more in terms of
42:30
strength so I don't know I'm really excited to see what he can do I really am and I believe Latif is an Elite 11
42:37
quarterback if I'm not mistaken as well so yep and Dayton rail I think is coming
42:42
along quite nicely so Nebraska is going to get another really solid passer there
42:47
so um yeah even though it did bum me out that kayin left um I still think the quarterback room is in a really good
42:53
place for the future so um yes I guess we could probably wrap it up there with all of our thoughts on Signing Day so if
