Good morning Husker fans and welcome back to the Husker Big Red youtube channel
0:04
I'm Chris Peterson and joining me as always is Danny Gillette and we're back here on a Wednesday morning after we got some
0:10
uh, big 10 postseason honors. We have the big 10 tournament preview starts today
0:14
although Nebraska isn't playing for a couple of days and we have some NFL free agencies stuff to talk about
0:18
Plus we might even talk about Nick Saban's trip to Congress over the week. So been some interesting stuff happening there
0:24
Um, before we get into it, you guys make sure that you hit the like and subscribe. So you don't miss any of our future
0:29
uh, Nebraska content, make sure you're checking out Husker Big red.com as well
0:32
And, uh, Danny, how are you doing on this Wednesday morning? I'm doing good
0:36
I, I also write for Patriots Wire so it's been a busy NFL free agency
0:40
I'm a little sleepy, but I'm, uh, I'm, I'm happy to be busy as opposed to bored and it seems like
0:47
uh, especially nowadays there's never a boring month in college football and
0:52
uh, college basketball as well. And, you know, I think, uh, I think that's a testament to college athletics and
0:59
uh, the current state of everything. So it's good. It's good. It helps
1:03
uh, put some bread on the table and, uh, and it also makes for some entertaining weeks
1:09
Yeah, it's been, it has been interesting with NFL free Agency. And then
1:13
yeah, Nick Saban and the Alabama people go into Congress, I think. Yeah, he
1:16
Nick Saban just can't stop talking about, you know how broken college football is
1:21
And I just, I find everything that he says to be incredibly ironic and I personally feel that Nick Saban is the last person who
1:28
should be talking about fixing college sports because he benefited from it
1:32
It's like, dude, you were, I mean, I don't care that there's no proof you, you paid people under the table to come play for
1:38
Alabama. You, you paid players the most money to come to your school and that's why you won
1:42
And then you also, while these guys weren't getting paid, were getting paid millions and millions and millions of dollars
1:47
So don't sit there and say, oh, it's only about the money like, yeah, you coach for the money
1:51
That's why you do it. So, I mean, I just find a lot of irony in it and the people that are like
1:57
you know, JD Pickles being like, oh Nick Saban hit this 100%. I'm like
2:00
dude, what are you even talking about? Like, are you suckling on Nick Saban's teeth or something
2:05
like, come on, man, like get a brain. Yeah, I'm not the
2:09
the, the whole Saban love affair in regards to this is absolutely mind blowing
2:15
I mean, Saban has been using these tactics for years and he
2:20
um he finally realized that other schools are catching up to him and
2:25
you know, he decided to retire from, you know, college football and people like
2:30
oh, Saban's doing the right thing here, the champion for the game, like the
2:33
the transfer portal isn't right. Nil isn't right. But, you know, I mean
2:38
look at Brian Kelly for example, and the way he left, um
2:43
Notre Dame for LSU, look at even Kaylin De Boer when he left Washington for Alabama
2:50
I mean, these coaches don't care. I mean, to act like players are doing a disservice to the coaches and
2:57
you know, things like that and, you know, oh, I gotta show loyalty
3:00
There's no loyalty on either side. So to say, to blame it all on the players is absolutely ridiculous
3:06
And, you know, this whole money thing. Well, well, I agree it's out of control at times and I agree nil is out of control
3:14
in certain situations. It's not, it's not gonna be the be all end all of college football
3:20
I mean, people say it's going to, you know, not level the playing field
3:24
but I strongly disagree. I mean, truthfully, do you think we would have been able to get Dylan Viola without nil
3:30
I mean, do you think we would have been able to get some of these athletes that we've gotten without nil
3:34
And I'm not saying we, that Nebraska is throwing the bag at every single player
3:39
but I am saying it helps provide them an incentive to come back and it's a business and you know
3:45
people are just mad that players can't, can't work for free anymore and
3:50
you know, I'm all for them getting their money. I absolutely am
3:55
you know, for them getting the money and, you know, it's not, and to me it's not specifically what Nick
4:01
what Nick Saban is saying, that's kinda getting me, you know, kind of annoyed
4:06
It's just the pearl clutching the, oh, college football, this college football that when he was one of the masterminds even before this was a
4:14
thing. Yeah, that's exactly right. The pearl clutching that, that's really what
4:18
what does bother me. And, um, but yeah, I mean, I think in, you know
4:22
even looking at last year, I mean, yeah, his team, he was mad that his team lost the Rose bowl
4:26
Well, you know what, you lost the Rose bowl to a team with a bunch of players that didn't care about money
4:30
That literally was the antithesis of that. I mean, look at, I mean, Michigan does not
4:34
I mean, it doesn't have the nil program even as strong as Nebraska and they've lost one player to the transfer portal
4:40
you know, since Jim Harbaugh left, but they actually like, wanted on their team and he wasn't even gonna start
4:45
He was like, uh, you know, that was the reason he left is because he wanted to have a preferred starting position at Alabama where
4:50
Michigan, he was gonna be a third safety. So, I mean, I think that, and the reason I'm bringing that up because I think it
4:54
applies to Nebraska because I believe that Matt rule is building that kind of culture and I think that the teams and the
5:00
the head coaches that don't make it all about money because I mean, when you're sitting there
5:05
you know, and you're offering all your recruits this much money and you're saying, hey, we're gonna, we're gonna outbid you for
5:09
you know, Michigan and we're gonna pay you more than Florida or whatever, which Alabama was 100% doing
5:14
I mean, don't act like you weren't part of the problem, Nick Saban. So, I mean, if you're gonna do that stuff then yeah
5:19
you, you are gonna, you know, risk your culture if you're an NFL team
5:22
right? And you go out and you spend, you know, you have a bunch of good players on your roster and you go buy 10
5:27
free agents and pay them more. You know, the guys on your team are gonna have a problem with that
5:31
And, uh, especially like, so you have this dynamic in college football where freshman players who have not played a single down
5:37
you know, are coming in here making more than guys that have been all Americans and stuff like that. And so that's where you have
5:42
some of those culture issues and Michigan for as much as you want to criticize them
5:47
And I have criticized the recruiting strategy as a Michigan fan because they haven't signed
5:51
they haven't signed a single five star recruit since they've made the playoff. Um, you know
5:55
they haven't signed, they've signed like a handful of top 300 recruits over these last three years
6:00
And so, but the thing about that as well is they're not bringing in guys like Walter Nolan who's getting this huge payday for Texas
6:08
A and M and leaving after one season after doing literally nothing, you know, and then while another guy on their roster is getting paid
6:13
less because that does cause culture issues. And so I think that
6:17
you know, the programs that aren't emphasizing the money like Nebraska like Michigan that's
6:22
that are really, um you know, investing time in players. I think they are the ones that are gonna have success and look at the
6:27
I mean, Nebraska had a bunch of really good players. I mean, little Ty Robinson
6:32
Isaac Giffard Naker. I mean, any of those guys could have made
6:36
you know, uh anywhere between 667 figures, potentially. I mean, a guy like Ty Robinson
6:41
if he entered the transfer portal easily, I think could get, you know, a million dollars because those guys are hard to find
6:47
you don't see good defensive linemen going in the transfer portal like that. So, I mean, the fact that Matt rule is talking about
6:52
you know, keeping those guys, I, I think there's a reason that they stayed and there's a reason that you haven't seen a mass exodus
6:58
of, you know, like there's a lot of pretty good. I mean, Jamari Butler is the guy that I was thinking about today that like
7:04
some, you know, like, I almost forgot he's on the team, he had five sacks and eight tackles for loss last year
7:08
He's coming back like jab and right, like, there's a lot of guys that aren't guaranteed starting positions that are gonna come back to this
7:16
team that easily could have gone in the portal and gotten a huge payday, but they're staying part partially because Nebraska has like a base
7:22
salary thing and everybody's getting paid in the portal. But it's also that culture aspect of it
7:25
You have to build that and like Nick Saban, I don't think was, you know, invested in doing that
7:30
He just was about, you know, getting guys to the NFL and it was all about the money. So
7:33
I mean, he kind of built his own monster there, I would say, yeah. And you know
7:38
Nebraska and, you know, it is the first program that covers my head when I think of this
7:42
but they don't make nil the complete, you know, the complete end all be all for their program
7:49
but it's there when they need it. And we saw that with Ty Robinson, like you mentioned and I think that's important too
7:55
I mean, I think it's important to have a balance uh between nil and
7:59
you know, just wanting to come back to come back. But it's also, I mean, let's be honest here
8:03
it's also nice to have a little bit of extra cash in their pocket. So I think Nebraska has done a good job balancing
8:09
um balancing between nil culture and, you know, team culture. And I think that's a credit to Matt Rua and Steph
8:18
Um So, all right, now that we've uh went on a bit of a tangent here, we'll get back to another tangent that will probably
8:24
go on is uh so big 10, uh you know, postseason honors
8:28
all conference honors, whatever you wanna say. Um So it was a good day for Nebraska
8:33
There was some, it was kind of an historic um in terms of players, they haven't had um an all conference hall like this since
8:39
the 1998 99 season. Um with uh case A Toman AA getting second team
8:44
all big 10 R mass getting third team, all big 10. Um And then Fred Hoiberg getting co coach of the year
8:49
Um So Danny, you wrote that piece up and you had a nice tweet out there out there should be no co about it
8:55
So tell me why you think that is and, and what, you know, your thoughts on Fred Hoiberg being co coach of the year with
9:00
Matt painter, we're not gonna get monetized for this video because I'm just gonna say it's
9:04
it's absolute bullshit. I mean, um I don't like it at all and here's why I get Matt Painter and Purdue had a phenomenal season
9:13
and, um, you know, they were one of the top teams in college basketball and in that respect
9:19
ok, maybe he's coach of the year, but he had the best player
9:23
one of the best players in the country on his team. He, it turns out we are winning rosters year after year after year
9:29
And to me, you know, coach of the year is, uh, uh, you know, an individual who showed the most improvement over
9:36
you know, from last season, meaning uh 2022 2023 and that was Fred Weinberg
9:44
There should have been no co about it. Fred won this award in my opinion
9:49
you know, far and away. Um I really don't understand the thinking behind this
9:55
I mean, I get again, Purdue, you know, one of the top team in college basketball
10:00
but to me, coach of the year is somebody who excels and, you know, makes his team substantially better
10:06
And that was Fred Hoiberg. Um I mean, he really Hoiberg really hit it out of the park this year to use a baseball ogy
10:15
Um, you know, I believe it was 18 and one at home if I'm not mistaken and
10:21
you know, a little bit of struggles on the road, but by and large, you know, a fantastic season
10:26
um, even though I wanted him fired three years ago, you know
10:33
Trev Alberts stayed the course with Hoiberg and that's a credit to Alberts because if I was the athletic director Hoiberg would make in already
10:41
And that's why I'm not the athletic director among other things. Um
10:44
but this is a credit to Trev Alberts and this is a credit to Fred
10:49
you know, because like we've said before, Fred's found a formula that's worked and he's really made strides over the last two seasons
10:56
So I'm, I'm extremely happy. He's won this award. He's, he's gone through a lot here and he's also been through the unique situation of
11:05
surviving a long term rebuild. And, you know, that's very rare in today's era of
11:11
you know, instant satisfaction and wanting quick fixes. So, I mean, he deserves this award far and away
11:17
It's bullshit that he has to share it. Um But at least
11:21
you know, he, he's kind of completed the full circle of life here from the rebuild to
11:27
you know, a place where Nebraska basketball is, you know, going to be really strong over the next couple of seasons
11:33
And, um congratulations to him. I mean, again, I'll just say it
11:39
I thought he was dead in the water, you know, two or three years ago and yet he's managed to adjust his coaching style
11:46
which isn't easy to do out of pride or whatever, you know, and he's found a formula that's worked
11:52
So I'm very happy to see this turnaround. Um, and Nebraska should absolutely think about extending him because he deserves it
11:59
He's really worked hard to try to get this program to where it used to be. Yeah
12:04
I think he's, uh 100% deserves a contract extension. I think he's as good a coach
12:08
I mean, you know, Matt Matt Painter is really great at what he does, you know, so, I mean
12:12
just give him credit. But, you know, the thing that stands out to me is you look at Nebraska and they finished
12:17
you know, they were predicted 12th in the league. I mean, that's, let's start right there and then they finished third and you look at
12:22
the all the first team, all big 10 and there's two Illinois guys, two Purdue guys and a guy from Northwestern
12:26
So, I mean, I mean, Illinois. Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, like those two teams
12:33
it's like, yeah, if Nebraska had, you know, two first team, all big 10 players
12:36
they should finish in the top three. You know what I mean? Like if you have 40% of the
12:40
of the all big 10 team like you should be a top three team. And Nebraska did have
12:44
they had two players, uh, you know, on the 2nd and 3rd team. And to me that's a snub
12:49
it's incredible. But you look at honorable mention, Purdue has five guys, you know
12:52
that made it on one of the first, you know, three teams. There was honorable mention Nebraska should have had more
12:57
I mean, I don't see how a team can finish third and only have, you know, one guy on the second team and one guy
13:03
on the third team. To me that I think that re rank mass, um
13:07
I think that he absolutely got screwed. He should have been a second team all Big 10 player
13:10
I thought he was better than case a Tomonaga this year, to be honest with you. Yeah
13:15
not that, I mean, case a had really good numbers at the end too and I think that that matters and
13:20
um, for a really high usage player, like he actually was really productive in terms of his usage
13:25
So, um, he had a really, really good season. He came on really strong at the end too
13:29
I mean, uh, not just the Michigan game but, but he's played really well down the stretch
13:34
So, um, but yeah, I, I was a little upset, I thought that Fred Hoiberg should have got it
13:39
but I guess I can also understand, you know, those, um, you know
13:43
big 10, I mean, that man. Peter beat so many of them so badly to give him the award again
13:48
But, but it is kind of like not Nebraska. Yeah, not Nebraska
13:52
You're right then beat Nebraska. Um, and that's two years in a row that they Nebraska should have beat him
13:57
I guess I should say. But, um, yeah, so it did, you know, stick in my crowd a little bit that it was co coach
14:02
of the year because I think it should have been by himself, but at least he was honored
14:06
But the thing that really sticks in my craw that really boggles my mind is how in the hell
14:11
Juan Gary didn't make all defensive team. That is, that is just highway robbery
14:15
That it just shows me that either somehow these, this league is still biased against Nebraska or these guys just aren't paying attention because you
14:23
can't tell me that. Then there's like seven guys that made that team. Jan Gary is a top five defender in the big 10
14:28
If you can't see that you weren't watching the games. Like, I don't know what else to tell you. Offense is always looked at first
14:34
over defense and I'm hope I'm, I'm, I'm hoping it's a case of
14:38
you know, these guys not watching the games as often. But did you see
14:42
did you see what Jan said though? I saw what Terrence Knight and said
14:47
and he's just like he did Gary not make the all defensive team
14:51
Well, Juan just, he, he did, he pulled the Michigan playbook but he just said, OK
14:54
bet. And then he said like a laughing emoji type thing. So I think
14:59
I think we're gonna see a pretty motivated Juan Gary on Friday night. I'm excited for Friday
15:03
I really am. I'm, I'm fired up for Friday. Um, but, you know
15:08
II, I think, um, you know, Fred f, like I said, Fred's found a formula and
15:14
you know, I think this team, we talk about nil, we'll see if that comes into play for the basketball team and who stays and
15:20
who goes. And I mean, you know, I love Nick Janowski and what he can bring and he's averaging 32 points per game
15:29
uh this season at the high school level. So the future is very bright
15:32
And one of the things I always said about, you know, Fred Hoiberg during the rough for years is that he can recruit now
15:41
He just needs to be able to put it all together, he's putting it all together and he can recruit
15:46
I think the sky is the limit for this program. And people also, people also have to remember that there is a certain ceiling for
15:51
Nebraska basketball. What if this team keeps playing, like they have been over these next couple seasons
15:58
the, the ceiling could definitely be elevated, you know, but I don't know if this is a national championship contender
16:05
but Fred, I think has got him into a good place right now where they can
16:10
you know, continue to play at a high level for many, many years. Yeah
16:13
At least being, you know, um, if you could just get this team to where, you know
16:17
that where Iowa State was, I mean, that, you know, like a team because if you're
16:21
if you can get to that sweet 16, like, if you can get to the second weekend of the tournament
16:25
those are the teams, then you're competing for a national championship, in my opinion
16:28
I know it's, you're not making it to the final four, but that's the, that's the goal
16:33
So first you got to get to the tournament and it's all like a building process, you gotta get there
16:36
then you have to win, then you have to start making the second weekend and you just
16:40
uh, you know, it's a long process but it's, it's a really fun process
16:44
I, I, you know, Michigan went through it. I watched Michigan do it and build it and I never in my wildest dreams thought that
16:50
they would ever, you know, play for two national championships, but they did and they did it without
16:54
you know, a bunch of big time recruits. And so I really think that Fred Hoiberg, you know
16:58
and that's my guy, John Beilein who's been talking to Fred Hoiberg so much. Like, I think that Fred can replicate that I really do
17:04
but it's gonna, it is gonna take time. It's not gonna happen overnight and, um, you know
17:08
he's gonna need a lot of support and, uh, from the, from the athletic department which he's been getting from Trev
17:13
So I feel very good about, you know, really all, all of the major programs in Nebraska in a very good spot right now
17:20
So, um, good on that. And then the big 10 tournament, like you said
17:23
starts today. There's two games today. Um, I think it's Rutgers and I wanna say Ohio State
17:30
I or no, maybe Minnesota. I, no, that's not. Right. Sorry, I'm messing up the bracket
17:35
I know, I know Penn State plays Michigan and then, um, trying to see who plays on the other one
17:41
I know it's Rutgers and some Mary. Oh, who is it? Rutgers and Maryland
17:47
That's who it is, which it boggles my mind that Maryland's playing on the first day when
17:53
you know, when Nebraska got absolutely leveled by Maryland. Um, I believe it was the end of January if I'm not mistaken
18:02
Yeah, Maryland's, uh, I mean, they're a really good defensive, they're like a top 10 defensive team according to the
18:06
uh, Ken Pump rankings. So, um, so, yeah, so that's gonna be interesting
18:11
And then you look at Thursday so Nebraska gets the double by, of course. So they will
18:15
the winner of, um, Penn State and Michigan, um, they will play Indiana and so the winner of that game will play Nebraska
18:23
I love the matchups. I'll just say I love the matchups right here. Yeah
18:27
I think they favor Nebraska pretty well. So that will be, uh, Nebraska will be playing Friday
18:31
They played the late game on Friday night. Um, or do they play the 230 game
18:35
I thought they play the 230. No, they play the, they play the late game. Um
18:40
so it's Purdue. Purdue plays first and then after that's Illinois, I mean
18:45
at Northwestern and Illinois, um, at 530 central time. And so then Nebraska would play after that
18:51
So probably about, um, probably about 8 p.m. central time is probably what we're looking at for tip off on Friday night and then
18:59
uh, semi final, they would play, um, let me see, they would play
19:07
uh, the, so the 12 o'clock, so probably about 230 central time would be the semifinal on Saturday if they make it
19:13
And then the championship game is 230 on Sunday. So, um, so that's kind of the bracket for you
19:19
I think, um, you know, they're on the Illinois side of the bracket, so they played them once this year
19:23
Um, Northwestern is the other team with the Buy. Um, so honestly
19:27
I feel good about our chances against Illinois too. Had that foul called not been called
19:31
I feel like we would be looking at things a little differently now. Yeah
19:35
I think they've got a good chance against. I mean, Illinois is playing really good basketball. So
19:39
um, that'll be a really good test for Nebraska. And the other thing too is I think
19:42
um, that'll, if they can win that game, it'll provide them a really good opportunity to actually improve their seating
19:47
Because the thing about it is once you, once you win the, you know
19:51
the selection committee doesn't really take the big 10 championship game into account because it's so
19:55
it's so close to selection time. So, I mean, maybe if Nebraska is playing Purdue
19:59
they could move up a seat or two if they win that game. But I really think the chance for them
20:03
you know, if they get to that big 10 championship game, I think is gonna get them that improved seeding either way
20:08
So, if they can beat Illinois on Friday night, I think that that would bump them into like that seven seed range
20:13
Maybe not though, because the bracketologist seem to hate the men's and women's teams of Nebraska
20:19
but whatever, I guess it's just, I guess they just have to prove themselves in the NC A tournament a little bit more
20:24
And even even getting to the NCAA tournament is gonna be huge. I'll be interested to see what the draw is
20:29
uh, for that first game. And, you know, it's, it's truly an exciting era to be a Nebraska basketball fan and maybe we'll do something
20:38
Friday. I didn't realize it was a late game. I thought we had a 230 game but I know he talked about doing something Friday
20:43
But, yeah, that'll make it a little tougher with it being in the league game
20:47
But, uh, but anyway, um, so, yeah, it should be an exciting big 10 tournament and
20:52
uh, it'll be, you know, Nebraska with a double by, I believe, for the first time
20:56
I don't think they've ever got that before. So, um, it'll, it'll be exciting and
21:00
um, that Indi Indiana is playing well though, so don't, don't overlook them at all
21:04
The Hoosiers are very talented team. Uh, Mike Woodson is coming back for another season
21:08
So, I mean, at least he, you know, knows he's not getting fired. I like prob maybe Juwan Howard who might be coaching his last
21:13
game with Michigan today. So we'll see lots of, lots of moving parts though
21:17
But, um, Nebraska did sweep Indiana. That does always worry me though
21:21
you know, having to beat a team a third time. But I, I like
21:25
I like their in, I think Nebraska's bigs and they're big. They match up pretty well with Indiana because that's kind of
21:30
their thing is Indiana is always a big team and not everybody can handle that. But I would love Michigan again
21:37
Yeah, I don't think Michigan's making it that far. I'd be stunned in Michigan. I'd be stunned if they won tonight
21:44
let alone winning two games. You know, wishful thinking, wishful thinking. But I mean
21:49
if they actually decided to, you know, like, not let people, they've given up more like
21:53
dribbling layups, like uncontested, dribbling layups than anybody I've ever seen. It's like a
21:57
I could take my power chair and just drive to the basket against them and at least get to the free throw or something like
22:02
they stood still. They were Instrument on Sunday and it wasn't impressive at all
22:06
It reminds me of my days of middle school coaching, you know, like where I have to tell people like
22:11
you know, you have to stop the ball, like whatever is happening, you gotta stop the ball
22:14
That's the most important thing. But, uh anyway, yeah, not good. But um the last thing we wanted to touch on some free agency news
22:23
for the Huskers there hasn't been a ton, but I know, I don't know if people saw this but last week
22:26
Amir Abdullah resigned with the Las Vegas Raiders. Um He's kind of
22:30
you know, stuck around rejuvenated his career there as backup running back
22:34
special teams guy. So, um fir I love it. He was one of my favorite players as a Husker
22:38
so I'm glad to see him still in the league. I thought he would have a better career in the NFL
22:43
But, you know, you know, when you play this long though, there's uh something to that
22:47
So credit to him and then, uh, the man, the one of the best players
22:51
probably the best Nebraska player in the league right now. Lavonte David signed a one year $10 million deal with the Bucks
22:56
Yeah, an absolute steal. Was he a free a, was he an unrestricted free agent
23:00
I didn't realize that. I believe so. Yeah, man, I wish my Packers would have signed him if there was one
23:06
one dude that I, that I would get them to sign. It would be Levante David because man
23:11
like they need off ball linebackers so they just cut an off ball linebacker for like 10 million so would fit perfectly
23:17
David's an absolute stud. I feel like he doesn't get enough recognition in the
23:21
in the NFL. I feel like he kind of flies under the radar and one year 10 million
23:26
Um, one of the more consistent linebackers in the entire league, I mean
23:31
you to, you look at his career with Tampa Bay and you know
23:35
he's just, he's just an absolute machine. Uh, he had 100 34 combined tackles la uh
23:43
in 2023 124 combined tackles in 2022. And then, you know, you look at kind
23:52
of, you know, he just his stats overall and I'm just, I'm just looking here right now and let's see
24:01
he's had, let's see, 1234, 123, eight seasons I believe with
24:10
over 100 tackles and he's just a stud, he's a stud and he's consistent and at a position that really wears down your body
24:18
you know, and I think part of the reason he went cut under the radar was because
24:23
you know, he, he, he came into the league during the age of linebackers like Patrick Willis
24:29
Luke Kukly, I mean, guys like that and those two are rightfully dominating the headlines and David's just been kind of doing his thing in
24:36
Tampa Bay and, you know, they keep re warning him, you know
24:40
for his production. So, I mean, it's, it's great to see him continue to play at a high level at a position that's not favorable
24:47
to your body. And yeah, and he hasn't missed, uh very many
24:50
you know, he missed two games one year, three games. There's only been four years in his career
24:55
he's missed any games at all which, which tells you something about him. But the thing is like
24:59
you know, he's such an impact player. Um, that's where I look at. Not just the tackles
25:03
but you look at, um, you know, because what, what really changes NFL games
25:07
It's the, it's the impact play. So, you know, what I look at is those plays are the
25:12
the tackles behind the line of scrimmage, whether it's a sack or tackle for loss
25:15
um, a pass breakup, you know, a forced fumble interception, you know
25:19
a sack, the plays that really change games and he makes a ton of those
25:23
He just makes absolutely a ton of them 12 interceptions for his career
25:27
uh, 64 pass breakups. So, I mean, he's breaking up like five or six passes a year
25:31
28 forced fumbles, 18 forced, uh, or fumble recoveries. So right there that's almost 60 turnover plays right there in his career
25:39
Um, and then you look at the sacks, 33.5 sacks and then 100 and 60 tackles for loss
25:44
So, I mean, this guy, you talk about impact plays, he's making like about 3037 season just
25:50
you know, off my rough math. Um, so that, that tells you for an off ball linebacker like
25:55
you know, one time all pro, I think he's been to the pro bowl a couple of times
25:58
but yeah, definitely not enough twice. Which is really weird when you look at the statistics
26:04
I feel like he should have been there more, but, you know, yeah, to me honestly, I think he could be
26:08
he could be like a hall of fame caliber type player. I was about to say that too
26:11
but I guess that maybe that's my Nebraska, you know, uh, scarlet and cream colored glasses
26:17
But I mean, like that, I swear to God like that, you look at that Tampa Bay team that won the Super Bowl and he
26:22
was a huge, huge reason for that. Like, you know, um, so defense was so good
26:27
Yeah, and he was a big reason why like going back to that Packers game
26:31
you know, when the Bucks beat like the Packers, you know, I was thinking like, man, and they had the
26:35
the guy from LSU to Devin. I can't remember what it was. Yeah, Devin White
26:39
I mean, both of those guys were really great, but Lavonte David had a spectacular career and
26:44
you know, I think he's right on par with um Andaman Su like two of the two of the great defenders of the Bo Polii
26:50
era. So kind of the remnants of the Bo Polini era playing out with Amir Abdullah too still
26:55
And I don't think that's the last uh the and I don't think those two will be the last uh Nebraska draft picks uh upcoming
27:03
here in the program. I think we're gonna see a lot of uh a lot of good talent coming through in
27:07
in the next couple of years. Uh Yeah, my prediction is that
27:11
yeah, we're gonna get a first round pick in the next two years. So we'll see
27:15
I think it's gonna be Rio. I think, I think um I think Cameron Leonard or Prince
27:20
Well, Hume who's gonna be a first round pick, you know, 222 years from now
27:25
one of those guys is uh I mean, yeah, edge rusher. So we'll
27:28
we'll talk about that more. We're gonna have some spring ball conversations coming up soon. So there's gonna be a lot more stuff
27:33
I gotta get running here but um make sure that you guys
27:37
uh, like and subscribe. Um I'm thinking we'll probably, we'll just have our normal chat on Saturday morning after we can
27:43
uh, talk about the game on Friday night. So come join us for that, we'll talk about the weekend and
27:48
uh, selection Sunday, we will finally figure out where the Huskers are gonna be playing at in the NCAA tournament this weekend
27:52
It's gonna be fun. We actually have a reason to watch selection Sunday guys
27:56
So soak it in Nebraska basketball fans and uh like and subscribe and we'll catch you guys later on Saturday
28:04
Um So thanks for hanging out with us and as always, go big red, go big red
