In this video, I'm going to show you the recently launched WhatsApp feature called WhatsApp Channels
0:06
So I'm going to start first by explaining what WhatsApp Channels are, then how you can join a channel, and then how to create one if you'd like to
0:15
So let's get straight into it. So first, what are WhatsApp Channels
0:20
So if you're someone that's used Telegram, I'm sure you'll know about this concept
0:25
So a channel is basically a one-to-many broadcasting tool. So how it works is that there's one admin who can send messages, and in that channel, there can be unlimited participants
0:38
So just to give you some examples, as you can see, these are some channels like Times of India, Mumbai Indians, Money Control
0:46
Basically, all large groups where there's one admin who wants to communicate with a large number of people
0:53
So Telegram has had this for a long time, and now WhatsApp has just gotten it
0:58
So now, how do you access channels on WhatsApp? There's one thing you'll have to note, that this is a recently launched feature, so you'll have to make sure that your WhatsApp is up to date
1:10
And there's a chance that even if you update it, you might still not get the updates, because they roll it out phase by phase
1:17
So if not today, in a couple of weeks, you might get this feature
1:21
But once your app is up to date, then just open WhatsApp
1:25
After that, at the bottom, instead of status, you'll find a new page called updates
1:32
So they've basically replaced the status page with updates. And now when you click on this, over here, they've split this page into status and channels
1:42
So the top part is the same. Here, you can see all of the statuses
1:47
But at the bottom is what's new. But now, I'm going to show you how to join channels, and then create one for yourself
1:56
So first, how do you join them? So what you have to do, is just click on find channels, that's written at the bottom
2:06
Over here, they've said that you can follow your interests on WhatsApp channels
2:10
Then they have some terms and conditions, which you'll just have to agree to
2:15
And now, as you can see, these are all of the channels
2:19
So again, they have a green tick for all the verified ones
2:23
So based on what channel you're looking for, you can go to that category
2:28
So let's say, I want the most popular ones. I'll click on that
2:34
And here, as you can see, these are all of the most popular WhatsApp channels
2:39
So for now, let's say, I want to join WhatsApp's channel. I can just click on plus, and as you can see, now we're added to it
2:50
So the same way, you can just scroll through this list and find a channel
2:55
Let's say, I want to join Indian cricket team. Again, just click on plus, and now I'm added
3:03
Other than that, if you want to search for channels, you can do that as well
3:08
So let's click on search on the top right, and now just enter the channel name
3:13
So here, you can search for anything. Let's say, I search for Liverpool
3:19
As you can see, a channel exists, and if I click on plus, again, I've joined it
3:28
So now, I've come back, and over here, I can get all of the updates from my channels
3:34
So let's say, I want to see Liverpool football club. I can click on it, and this is how the channel looks
3:42
They can send messages, which we can react to, and it's basically like a WhatsApp group where only admins can message
3:51
After that, you can decide if you want to enable or disable notifications
3:57
So if you just click on the bell icon on the top right, as you can see, notifications are now turned on
4:05
And again, if you want to switch it off, just click on it
4:09
After that, there are a few more options, like unfollowing it or getting information about the channel
4:16
For this, click on the three dots on the top right. And here, you can see the different options, like channel info, unfollow, share, or report
4:28
So let's say, I want to unfollow this. I'll just click on it
4:34
And now, if I go back, as you can see, Liverpool has gone from my channels list
4:42
So this is all about joining channels, following them, unfollowing. And now, I'll show you how to create your own channel
4:49
For this, again, click on the plus button, and then click on create channel
4:56
So here, they've given some more information, where you can have unlimited followers
5:01
then anyone can discover your channel. So now, if you're fine with these guidelines, just click on continue
5:09
And now, enter your channel name. After that, you can add a description if you want
5:17
And then, if you want an icon, you can add that as well
5:22
So it's similar to creating a WhatsApp group. And now, I just click on create channel
5:29
And as you can see, this channel has been created. And if I just go to the info, then over here, I can see all of the followers of this channel
5:41
Then I can share it with others by just clicking on share. And after that, if I want to delete it, I can click on delete
5:51
Then click on delete again. Just enter your mobile number. And as you can see, the channel is deleted
5:59
So this is basically how channels work. In my opinion, this just makes WhatsApp a lot more like Telegram
6:05
and it's an update that wasn't required as such. But let me know what you think down in the comments. Goodbye
