Was $190 A Fair Price For The Air Jordan 4 IV Retro Pure Money?

Feb 20, 2025
The Air Jordan IV Retro Pure money released in May exactly 11 years since they were originally introduced in 2006. The retail price of the shoes was set at $115 back in 2006 and suddenly jumped to $190 in 2017. I thought the price increase was a bit too much , but I had to take the inflation into consideration. I decided to do that today and recorded my findings

what we got it for how much time Wow I
0:02
mean tiny it was uh Chris we live right
0:05
now man what's up man
0:07
uh-huh did you eat that chicken tuna
0:11
salad man oh yeah yeah he told me man
0:14
hey what's up guys this is ty from house
0:16
of kicks and on the other line we got a
0:19
crease from arch - USA and we got some
0:22
good stuff oh my bad
0:26
that's all good man all right basically
0:28
man what we're talking about today is
0:30
like really simple man like we want to
0:32
talk about like the Jordan for pure
0:34
money and then gr retros in general
0:36
right the price increase and how is it
0:39
fair for for Jordan Brand to charge so
0:41
much money for like gr retros and
0:44
basically what we're going to do is
0:46
you're gonna use the pure money fold I
0:47
just came out about a couple of weeks
0:49
ago right and we're gonna try to break
0:51
it down and explain a couple things to
0:53
you so there's something called
0:55
inflation and basically what it means is
0:56
inflation is the increase in price in
0:58
commodities in this case is the Jordan
1:01
and and and and what causes are the
1:03
inflation is a lot of things it could be
1:05
the rising like the wages let's say the
1:09
Nike factory is they are the employees
1:12
want to get more money
1:12
so therefore the brain has like increase
1:15
the price of time right and there could
1:17
be other thing like expansion of money
1:19
falling from the government there's a
1:20
lot of things I can call the impression
1:22
so but Nike and some grains used the
1:25
inflation to try to justify increasing
1:28
prices and so what I did the other day
1:30
was I was looking at a Jordan for Rachel
1:32
right the pure honey they came out of
1:34
2006 and they were 140 $115 and last two
1:39
weeks ago when they dropped they went
1:40
all the way up to 190 I'm like hold up a
1:44
second man from 115 to 190 us a lot of
1:46
money that's basically like $75 I'm a
1:49
math major that's what I can so I I'm
1:51
not running but my notes anyway so it
1:53
was $75 more right but is it a fair
1:58
price and it says that we were in fresh
1:59
and ask me like 11 years in the
2:01
lavinia's friend is there 190 a
2:03
reflection of is it proportional to the
2:05
inflation basically what I'm saying is
2:07
the 190 does that mean that the
2:10
inflation because of the inflation issue
2:12
should work 190 I'm not
2:13
the question makes sense but this is
2:15
what we try and talk about today so what
2:17
I did was I one of my I created this
2:20
chart on my website which I'm gonna
2:21
share my screen with you and you know
2:23
what les there we gonna shoot that and
2:25
we're gonna talk more later oh it's like
2:27
what am I doing here man
2:28
try shimmer I'm click on the wrong thing
2:31
photo so I'm gonna share my screen with
2:32
you guys and we're gonna we're gonna
2:35
talk basically I don't know if the
2:38
picture shows pretty well you know what
2:40
let me save it and then I open on my
2:41
computer real quick so maybe you get a
2:43
bigger picture of it cuz I don't I don't
2:45
want the eye ah sorry it's better than
2:48
nothing so basically ah this is the oh
2:51
man come on dude actually that's not bad
2:54
yeah I can't see it alright so basically
2:57
that's the Jordan for pure money when
2:59
they came out 2006 it was 115 now fast
3:03
forward 11 years Jordan Brand is on the
3:06
shoe for $190 right now according to the
3:09
inflation the shoe should be worth like
3:12
138 497 Billy $140 having better price
3:15
so asked like they charging you
3:18
basically 10% more than less you charge
3:20
you so instead of pain 140 you paying
3:23
one line just like $50 more but guess
3:26
what your brain does they justify this
3:28
increase in price based on the inflation
3:30
and then like two weeks ago I wanted to
3:33
the Nike outlet and I found these the
3:35
Jordan for royalty for one $49.99 and
3:38
I'm thinking that's a great price for
3:40
the shoe is it really a great price
3:42
that's why Jordan Brand went from the
3:44
get go is 149 150 right they're gonna do
3:47
the same thing with a Jordan for pure
3:48
money they're gonna send you straight
3:50
out ready like a couple of weeks and
3:51
they're gonna charge you guys one $49.99
3:54
which is still kind of more than what
3:56
they're supposed to charge you and then
3:58
people think they're making a deal
3:59
now do I care I mean I don't really care
4:03
that much but I'm just I'm just in
4:04
you're like really are you charging one
4:07
that you want for one fifteen to one and
4:08
that's a lot of money
4:09
all right so Chris now that we've talked
4:11
about kind of showed what we want to
4:13
talk about you go ahead and now you tell
4:15
me
4:15
well what your what your thoughts are on
4:17
this arm topic man I'm gonna shut this
4:20
down and Chris you go ahead I'm a sub
4:25
everybody
4:26
just making sure both what we're doing
4:28
art that's usa.com website our times
4:32
house kick network that's us
4:34
I just tweeted the link for the video
4:38
for the Hangout so I just tweeted it and
4:42
hopefully some people will join in and
4:44
maybe come and listen to the
4:45
conversation I don't know if anybody's
4:47
going to come in but I did just what the
4:49
tweet the link for it alright um inflate
4:55
because you're the math major you know
4:57
more than I do and you can explain it
4:58
better uh explain it better I'm a math
5:03
major but I know numbers but I'm not
5:05
even economists that's that's what he
5:07
handles so I kind of know just the
5:09
sharpish
5:10
I don't work I don't know you deck I
5:12
don't have any in-depth knowledge or I'm
5:14
just know like the basic stuff and what
5:16
is easy yeah I mean I mean the basics
5:19
are pretty much going to cover it I mean
5:20
I think so I put the over here the chat
5:22
section I wrote the question does
5:24
inflation account for the increase in
5:25
Jordan Brand pricing and I think at 11
5:28
years on it and looking at it from the
5:31
surface it doesn't account for the price
5:35
increase of the people tweeting back
5:39
sorry about that it doesn't I don't
5:41
think it accounts for it after I read
5:42
your work on it make a whole lot of
5:46
sense now somebody's talking about a
5:47
shoe that's 25 years old and yeah you're
5:49
going to have a certain amount of
5:50
inflation to where it makes sense but I
5:53
think uh with the pure money for man is
5:57
sitting everywhere now I don't know if I
6:00
can share a screen with you I'm not sure
6:02
if I can okay but I'm going to share a
6:05
screen right this is what I'm going to
6:11
do I'm going to can you see my screen I
6:13
can see it good all right so I'm inside
6:16
of my Twitter account but I'm going to
6:17
sneakers and I want to show you
6:19
something man it's actually really
6:22
amazing sure you see everything on here
6:23
you see it yes sir
6:25
alright check this out so I go to
6:27
sneakers and I'm going to go down and
6:30
start looking at Jordan brand shoes that
6:32
release recently right so check this out
6:35
the pure platinum still available on
6:37
sneakers now if I come
6:39
over here and I look at let's say a
6:42
Kyrie which I've been saying typically
6:45
as a better shooter Kyrie is still
6:46
available on the flip switch model but
6:50
it looks like nothing is selling out on
6:52
Jordan on us sneakers so the black cat
6:55
31 low um we'll keep scrolling and I
7:00
want to keep scrolling for particular
7:01
reason I'm looking for Jordan shoes
7:02
right because I typically do should you
7:06
buy the flip and I'm like all right on
7:07
these Jordan shoes selling out and if
7:10
they're not selling out on sneakers and
7:12
they're not selling out at all look at
7:13
this the Barons 11 still sitting 175
7:16
still in stock we can keep going and
7:20
let's find another Jordan here and now
7:22
look at these the oil tempo sold out now
7:27
platinum here Jordan 13 low still in
7:31
stock eros still in stock eros 11 still
7:36
in stock secure money still in stock you
7:40
starting to get the picture you know I'm
7:41
going through now check out the phone
7:42
pockets or sold out it was a really
7:44
limited shoe but if we keep going down
7:47
this list the things that are selling
7:49
out are basically the kind of retro
7:54
classic shoes that are limited release
7:56
now this is sold out in air jordan wings
7:58
but you know let's be real man
8:01
these jordan prices being inflated the
8:04
way they are it's hurting a brand every
8:08
jordan release that has come out in the
8:10
last month and still sitting you know
8:13
what I'm saying and I mean that's got us
8:16
you know that's got to be something that
8:20
everybody has to consider man you know
8:22
and the good the good news anytime soon
8:27
as I like you know like to get on get on
8:30
fine issues you were breaking up and I
8:36
don't know what you just said I'm saying
8:37
that the good news is the consumers are
8:39
like being a lot smarter they're not
8:41
just going out and buying you know I'm
8:44
saying like they did will know that
8:45
issues are gonna sit and everyone they
8:47
are they up level at one $49.99 I think
8:50
we should just wait man just wait
8:53
just don't buy just let them sit there
8:55
until they're good out like maybe
8:56
hundred bucks because that's what I
8:58
really get cool man like it also was
9:00
supposed to be a place where you went
9:01
and found some stills and not outright
9:03
it's like a retail store you go to the
9:06
outlet buying shoes for like almost 20
9:07
bucks
9:08
and sell out later yeah nine dollars
9:11
well you know what this is a when we did
9:15
the video a while back and I know this
9:17
episode won't have to be very long
9:18
because I think everybody's going to
9:20
kind of agree with us and in the fact
9:22
that according to your numbers the shoe
9:26
should cost how much 161 138 499 140
9:31
vision have the shoes should actually be
9:36
140 and then and you did a search on
9:39
eBay and what does the shoe sell them
9:41
for 140 right now the heart kind of
9:46
dictates where the shoe is going to go
9:47
man and what's happened is all right you
9:51
know like everybody had a sneaker world
9:52
we all look at Matt Powell's data
9:54
because he's got access to all of the
9:56
point of sales data right my dog was
9:58
chewy this is the thing the the point of
10:02
sales data doesn't tell the whole story
10:04
about marketing resale and everything
10:07
else that goes into it and it also is
10:08
not going to give you a true measure of
10:10
what's selling through the data is
10:15
important I'm not trying to say that
10:17
it's not important all right but this is
10:20
the thing resale and Nike Nike has been
10:27
attempting to get rid of resellers um
10:30
they've removed the discounts at Foot
10:32
Locker um you don't get discount on
10:35
release day shoes print things that are
10:39
in place now that prevent you from
10:41
getting on people reselling these shoes
10:44
the price increases also had to do with
10:47
resellers they saw that space and
10:49
they're trying to fill in that gap and
10:51
get the money that the resellers were
10:52
getting what is the problem
10:54
Nike started to over produce the shoes
10:57
now they're making so many shoes the
11:00
shoes no longer have their cool factor
11:04
adidas is going to do the same thing
11:08
we're the point right now man we're vans
11:16
just as fast as they'll rock a pair of
11:18
Jordans when guys start realizing yo
11:22
these vans are kind of dope and they
11:25
only cost $80 of course
11:28
Nike basketball is going to get affected
11:30
you know it's the same thing with Nike
11:32
basketball taking a hit as a Deena
11:34
started to grow these shoes are $100 you
11:38
can get a Yeezy look-alike in the leader
11:41
shadow for a hundred bucks and it looks
11:46
just like the easy I shadow so if you
11:49
look at the top shoes that sold in
11:50
quarter one was in the top shoes that's
11:55
old
11:55
it looks like the easy it only cost 100
11:58
bucks people aren't going to keep buying
11:59
these shoes if these inflated prices man
12:01
and Nike can't lower the prices so how
12:06
do they lower the prices it goes back to
12:08
what we talked about direct to consumer
12:10
sales DTP see Nike has handed in their
12:14
plans for the line is to sell directly
12:16
to the consumer price to one hundred and
12:21
ninety dollars your outlet is like you
12:24
said if I see that shoe for $139.99 I'm
12:27
going to buy it from outlet again
12:30
they're making more money than they
12:32
would have if they had sold to the Foot
12:33
Locker right mark that Nike he's not
12:39
stupid everybody's like all Nikes
12:41
hurting nah he ain't hurtin me foot lock
12:44
already bought the shoes they got him
12:46
sitting in the stores they paid $100 for
12:47
the shoes right if Nike takes the shoes
12:51
back and they drop the price to one
12:53
$29.99 you like old Nike must be worth
12:56
like he ain't hurtin Mikey got retail
13:00
value for that shoe at one 29.99 that's
13:02
still a markup because shoe only cost
13:04
$60 to me
13:06
I mean in reality and wholesale of a
13:10
Nike shoe should be $120 when you factor
13:12
in how much money they have to pay all
13:13
of a endorsers in a marketing and
13:15
everything else that goes into it the
13:17
wholesale ought to be a hundred and
13:18
twenty dollars but is $95 if I'm selling
13:21
it for one $29.99 in my own store I'm
13:25
basically making more money than what if
13:27
I sold shoes wholesale why do you think
13:29
the modern pop shops disappear
13:30
so that to the original question this
13:33
inflation thing man is is masterful I
13:36
love the fact that you sat here and did
13:39
this and I hope you do it Jordans that
13:42
are coming out because I think people
13:44
want to notice that they want to know if
13:45
the price increase was really a matter
13:48
of inflation now like you said we're not
13:50
economists so stock market people or
13:51
anything else we can't say that we're
13:54
right but we do know for a fact that we
13:58
can look at the numbers on the surface
14:00
and see that this inflation according to
14:02
your math is not inflation it's just in
14:05
price check to cutout resellers but look
14:08
resid lee so it's not it's not relative
14:11
to the inflation is really love like
14:13
it's not there's no reality to in the
14:16
sense that Nike she really know me shall
14:17
not shoot for one language hope then one
14:19
night he was no fair if you care 194 it
14:22
you got gap Hey now you just make me a
14:29
doing a lower price on my website yeah
14:32
man was that one I'm going for it
14:35
dropping the price on the shoe down to
14:37
once you should be fine okay
14:40
what's funny in 2006 when it came out
14:44
they came with the shoe how to poster
14:46
the bucks how you know that was a poster
14:49
like included in it was my poster for
14:53
190 I'm paying you one night was be
14:54
hosted what's my accessories nothing you
14:58
don't I'm sayin so what yeah what get a
15:01
color there you gotta get with that
15:04
alright let me share screen was just
15:06
because I did that I know we getting
15:07
ready to sign off now don't keep the
15:08
people good training again right yes
15:13
can you see the screen yes alright
15:17
because I just said that we the shoe is
15:19
overpriced I'm going to go in there
15:22
Jordan alternate if we're going to
15:26
is overpriced and I gotta adjust the
15:28
price right how much you gonna settle
15:31
for I'm gonna lower the price to one
15:33
59.99 with free shipping you know Ashley
15:36
does she steal guys no sorry oh let's
15:40
update it update all right so we don't
15:45
be fair then let's be fair yeah so at
15:49
beauty product markdown 191 $59.99 all
15:53
right that's it man oh I don't have you
15:56
guys to say I think it's a good
15:57
discussion Nene I got unnecessary so
16:02
guys thanks you know actually we're
16:04
gonna be talking about the DMP
16:06
on the 13 a 14 for the next time so I'm
16:08
gonna go ahead and do some research on
16:10
it see the $500 is actually worth you
16:12
know is it a good price to pay 500
16:14
dollars for this D&P I don't think it is
16:16
but I need to check your numbers to make
16:18
sure I'm not just saying it I'm not
16:20
you're speculating all right thanks for
16:21
watching again check our website how to
16:23
kickstart come here and increase this
16:25
arch - usa.com make sure to check the
16:28
website alright thanks for watching
16:30
again peace yes
