Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe
Buttermilk biscuits are a staple in Southern cuisine, known for their fluffy, tender, and buttery goodness. Perfect for breakfast, as a side dish, or topped with gravy, they’re easy to make and deliciously comforting. The key to achieving that light, flaky texture lies in keeping the butter cold and not overworking the dough. Here’s a recipe that yields tender biscuits with a classic golden-brown top.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
3/4 cup buttermilk, cold
Instructions
Preheat and Prepare
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Cut in the Butter
Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized chunks.
