Asida (Libya) Recipe
Introduction
Asida is a traditional Libyan dish made from simple ingredients, primarily flour and water, resulting in a soft, dough-like consistency. This versatile dish can be enjoyed sweet or savory, often served during special occasions or family gatherings. Asida is not just a meal; it represents hospitality and cultural heritage in Libyan cuisine.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
3 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
Honey or date syrup (for sweet Asida)
Cinnamon (optional, for sweet version)
Instructions
Prepare the Dough: In a large pot, bring the water to a boil. Gradually add the flour while stirring continuously with a wooden spoon to prevent lumps. Stir in the salt.
Cook the Mixture: Lower the heat to medium and continue to stir until the mixture thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pot, forming a smooth, elastic dough. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes.
