An active pattern for tropical cyclone formation in the Eastern and Central Pacific could send several named storms in the general direction of Hawaii, but it is too soon to determine what impacts these systems will have on the 50th state. The National Hurricane Center is tracking both Invest EP91 which is about 1,000 miles away from Hawaii, and Hurricane Gilma, which is closer to 2,000 miles east of the islands. Gilma became the second hurricane of the 2024 East Pacific hurricane season, but it is turning into a large powerhouse with winds expected to reach Category 3 or Category 4 strength by the weekend. Fortunately, the large cyclone is out of open water and is much further away from the Aloha State than Invest EP91.
