Super-Easy 2 CHORD Guitar Lesson: Play 'Horse With No Name' (Beginner-Friendly)

Today I'm going to teach you a super easy 2 chord song entitled Horse With No Name by America

That's coming up! This song is great as it's very simple, incredibly catchy, and perfect for beginners

In this lesson, I'll show you how to play both of the chords you need, an easy strumming pattern

and then I'll do a little bit of play along at the end for you so you can strum along with me and copy what I do

So let's take a look at the chords for the song. We're going to need the E minor chord and the G6 over 9 chord

We'll start off with the E minor chord. So place your index finger on the 2nd fret of the 5th string

and then place your middle finger on the 2nd fret of the 4th string. Now strum all of your guitar strings

starting from the low E string, all the way down to the high E string like this

Great! Now let's move on to the G6 over 9 chord. Don't worry about the scary sounding name

it's not as difficult as it sounds. To play it, all you need to do is move your index finger

over to the 2nd fret of the 6th string, and move your middle finger down to the 2nd fret of the 3rd string

You can also use your ring finger for the 2nd fret of the 3rd string

if you find that easier. Whatever you're comfortable with is fine. Now strum all the strings again like we did with the E minor chord like this

Right. Now that we've learned the chords, we're going to learn the strumming pattern

As this is a beginner lesson, it's best to keep this simple. There's no point trying to run before you can walk

We'll play 3 downstrokes, followed by 1 upstroke, and then a final downstroke like this

Let's try playing this through together 3 times slowly. So get ready by fretting your E minor chord now

then I'll count us in, and you'll join in with me. 1, 2, 3, and 4

Nice! Okay. Now you understand the strumming pattern. Let's try putting it all together by playing the song

I'll play the intro, then the first verse, and finally the chorus

And I want you to try playing along with me. Don't worry if you struggle to keep up with the chord changes at first

Just stick with it, keep trying, and you will get it. I'll also play it a little bit slower too
