USAF F-15C Eagles Protect Iceland's Airspace (AUG 2018)

F-15C Eagle fighter jets and 280 personnel assigned to the 493rd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron from RAF Lakenheath take over the NATO Icelandic Air Policing Mission in August 2018. Icelandic Air Policing or Icelandic Air Surveillance, is a NATO operation conducted to patrol Iceland's airspace. NATO allies take turns deploying fighter aircraft to Keflavik Air Base. The first deployment began in May 2008, with France deploying Mirage 2000C fighter jets.
