Meet Tommy Voo. He's the Burpee King

My name is Major Tommy Voo. I'm with the Oregon Army National Guard

In my civilian job, I'm a sports medicine orthopedic PA. Tommy here is going to give us all a short history lesson about the burpee

Grab your popcorn. It's not common knowledge, but the Burpee is actually a last name

It was invented by Dr. Royal Burpee in the 30s, 1930s. It was created as a way to test the fitness levels in young recruits into the military

This is the homage to Dr. Royal Burpee and his family. So it would start out in the plank position and essentially you would just pop up

Damn, that's one. Two. I wrote the fastest time with 25 burpees

I did that in front of my unit to help inspire them to maintain their New Year's resolution

So the next step, we have the chest to ground push-up burpees

One. Two. The chested ground burpee as prescribed by Guinness World Record

Now with this movement, what Guinness World Record is looking for is a little hand motion to the side when you're on the ground

So down on the ground, hand to the side, come back up

One. Two. This has no chest of ground component

It's just a straight burpee as Dr. Royal Burpee would recognize and then straight to a pool bar

So I'll demonstrate you go straight to a pool, chin over the bar and you don't just drop the bar

You have to kind of push yourself or lower yourself with your arm extended and drop

The burpee pull up in one hour. 611 of those reps. Very painful. In the future, I plan on seeing a lot for burpee styles and

different burpee world records. You know what else? Maybe I'll set a couple myself, and you guys

can go out for it yourself and take my world records
