Able to own property, initiate divorce, hold authority, and have a great deal of sexual freedom when single, women's rights in Ancient Egypt would be foreign to many of the cultures that surrounded it and that would follow it in history. Of course, not every aspect of a woman's life would please modern progressives. Slavery and servitude were still many a woman's lot in life, though even these institutions differed from the ones we think of from recent history.
