Choosing the right putter for your game can be a bit of a minefield, but selecting the right model
0:04
is crucial to better performance on the greens. I've tested all the best models from all the
0:09
biggest brands and more to help you determine which one will suit your needs. I'm here at the
0:14
beautiful Tavistock Short Game area at Woburn Golf Club, the perfect facility
0:18
for testing these putters. So sit back, relax and let's get into the video. So we're going to start this video talking about alignment. Now having the right alignment on your
0:29
putter is crucial to holding more parts and obviously starting the ball online more often
0:34
The first putter that I'm going to talk about is the PXG Allen. Now this is a very large mallet
0:40
style head and you do have this zero torque design where the shaft axis runs straight through the
0:45
centre of gravity and it can be a little off-putting at address but once you get it set up behind the
0:50
ball I just feel like it frames the ball really nicely. You've got this aluminium strip here along
0:55
the back and one long sight line so that is perfect for those that see things in a linear fashion
1:01
It makes setting up, like I said, very square and with the technology in the head you're going to
1:06
want to promote a square to square putting path. Now the next one we're going to talk about is a
1:10
really new putter and that is the Scotty Cameron Studio Style Square Back 2. Now it does feature
1:17
some alignment technology that we've seen from one of its competitors, I won't go too much into that
1:22
but it's something that I really like and again really helps square the putter face at address
1:26
You've got this contrasting chrome and satin silver finish with this black finish across the
1:32
back there and you've got this little gap and I'm not really sure what the purpose of that is
1:36
but again it almost just seems to frame the ball really nicely. You've got a little sight line on
1:41
the top there as well, again really shapes the ball well. So moving on to the Zebra Milled Series
1:48
004 putter now most of the putters that are best for alignment are mallet style heads due to
1:54
the larger footprint and there's more going on that helps you align that face but for those
2:00
blade lovers i've chosen this putter because you've got this series of lines on the back here
2:04
that i think just are absolutely superb the shoulders actually curve in as well which helps
2:09
promote a flowing stroke in terms of blade putters i feel like it's the easiest to align on the market
2:15
But lastly, and my winner for in terms of alignment, is the Odyssey AI-1 Jailbird Mini Double Bend
2:22
Now, some people like the perpendicular Versa lines, but they've actually flipped it around here
2:26
and they run horizontal. So when you set up behind the ball, this white banner just frames the ball
2:32
really, really well. And you've got this sight line on top here that I actually prefer to the
2:37
three dots we've seen in previous models. And so for that reason, I think this is the best putter
2:42
for alignment this year and will help you if you're struggling to start those putts online
2:49
So sound and feel is very subjective when it comes to putting. Some people like a much firmer feel
2:54
off the face and some people like a much softer feel. So I'm going to start with what I feel is
2:59
the best soft feel putter this year and that is the Ping Scott Stale answer. Now this new P-Bax
3:05
insert here has been designed in that they can take weight out of the face, redistribute it
3:11
throughout the head for a higher MOI and more stability, but you get that incredibly soft feel
3:16
I thought it was brilliant, particularly when testing on the fast greens here at the Tavistock
3:20
facility at Woburn, and for those playing on fast greens in general and want a slightly
3:25
so of ball speed, this Scottsdale range is perfect for that. Now, the next one we're going to move on
3:30
to is actually the Wilson Infinite. Now, this is a much, much firmer feel. It's probably one of the
3:35
firmest feeling putters I've tested out there, and it comes in this blade design as well as a few
3:40
others but for those who play on very soft greens or maybe some greens that are slightly longer
3:44
grass lengths and you just really need to get that ball to the hole this is a great option
3:49
So then moving on to slightly softer we're going to talk about the Lab Oz 1i. Now this is a new
3:56
design for this year it does have this 303 stainless steel milled insert here which gives you a really
4:02
nice roll and it's kind of on the verge between medium and firm that's how I would describe it
4:07
Now this Oz 1i model does come in a non model basically with this odd shape so if you do prefer that softer feel from previous Lab putters then you going to want to check that one out But if I did have to pick a winner it would have to be the Toulon Las Vegas
4:24
Now, this is the 25 series, and it comes in this beautiful anthracite finish with this racing red and blue tones on the back here in the detail
4:34
I just think it looks superb, but it does come with this double milled design on this 304 stainless steel face
4:40
So it's a much softer material than other milled putters. You do get enough click and feedback, though, throughout the shaft to help you with your distance control
4:50
And it does come with quite a soft, spongy grip, which, again, will help with those pace controls over the quick downhill putts that you want to get your pace just right
5:02
Now, having a forgiving putter is crucial to helping you with your distance control, particularly if you are prone to off-centre strikes
5:10
and there are three the putters that stood out for me in particular in this category the first of
5:15
those is the Mizuno M Craft 6, a new putter for this year and something that's really cool about
5:20
these putters is the fact that you have interchangeable weights on the sole here so
5:24
you can add weight to make it heavier and more stable and vice versa you can make it lighter if
5:29
that's something you prefer to give you a bit more feel but you can also actually change the backs of
5:33
these putters changing the look and the design and also the MIY so there are a couple of options
5:38
available so you can choose one that suits your eye and needs. Now the next putter I want to talk
5:44
about is one that is widely recognised. It's used on tour by the likes of Ricky Fowler and that is
5:50
the Labgolf DF3 putter. It's the largest putter that I tested and ultimately the most forgiving
5:56
because of the size of the head. I really like the alignment aid. I think that helps centre the ball
6:01
and promotes much more of a centre strike and Deputy Editor Joel Tadman has been using this
6:06
for over a year and he loves it from long range and even finds when he's putting through the
6:11
fringe with a dodgy lie that this gets the ball going and he finds himself getting the ball to
6:15
the hole much more often but if there was one putter that I thought was probably the most
6:20
forgiving this year it would have to be the Seymour Mini Giant HTX now again this is a large
6:27
mallet style head design it's got these rails on the back that again frame the ball nicely help you
6:32
with center strike and you've got this rifle design on the putter here which again sets the
6:37
putter up really square at address helping promote center strike. You do have this large milled face
6:43
here and the insert actually is probably a little wider than others on the market. I found this
6:48
putter to be particularly good when lag putting from 30 feet plus helping me to putt definitely
6:54
more than I three putted and I think that's largely down to the internal weights. There's six in total
6:59
you've got the two larger weights on the sole here but then two towards the rear and two on the sides
7:04
extending the MOI to the perimeter of the head making it more stable and helping you with those
7:10
long distance parts. Just taking a break from this video to say if you are enjoying the video make
7:17
sure you hit the like button and subscribe so you don't miss any more Golf Monthly YouTube videos but
7:21
also if you like any of the products that you've seen in today's video I'll make sure I'll put the
7:25
links in the description box below for the best prices in your area. Now the price of putters
7:33
like anything seems to have gone through the roof recently but if you're looking for best bang for
7:39
your buck then there are a couple of putters that I think stand out in particular. The first of those
7:43
is the Cobra. This is the Kuda model and it does have this really soft insert face here. It's
7:50
brilliant for alignment with these three lines on the back and you've got the LA Golf patented
7:57
descending loft technology so depending on where you strike it on the face you should see an even
8:02
roll helping you with distance control and hopefully helping you haul more putts. Now the next putter
8:08
I want to talk about is the Cleveland HB Soft 2. Now there are multiple models in these ranges so
8:14
if you don't like this particular head shape then there are others that you can choose from but this
8:19
has a really soft face thanks to the deep milling and it does have the handy
8:23
kind of tech of being able to pick your ball up through the hole here on the bottom which is just a nice little feature but if you want a putter that
8:30
offers the best value for money I would say it would have to be the Wilson Infinite coming in at just over 100 pounds 109 I think I saw it online for I feel like this is exceptional value for money It got this black head with white lines that contrast really nicely helping you with alignment
8:46
It's got a very shallow milling on the face that does produce a very firm feel. But if you play with a softball, a Wilson Duro softball for example, then they should counteract each other quite nicely
8:55
helping you get the ball to the hole more often. If it's not up, it can't go in, right
9:03
If you're seeking a little more forgiveness with your putting then you're gonna want to opt for a mallet putter. Now as we talked about in the forgiveness
9:11
section a couple of those were mallets and while they were great options I've
9:14
got three more here that I think were probably the best in that select category. Now the first I want to talk about is the Evenroll Zero Z5S. This is a
9:23
zero torque design as you can see here the shaft runs through the middle of the
9:28
center of gravity helping you keep the face square to the path throughout the
9:32
stroke. I just think this is a great design. It's got the classic precision milling that you would
9:37
expect from an even roll putter and it's got this sweet face technology here as well which helps
9:42
deliver a consistent roll. You've got dual weights on the sole here and the hosel can even be changed
9:48
through this screw in the bottom here if you want a slightly different neck. Now the next putter that
9:53
I'll move on to is a new putter from Scotty Cameron. This is the studio style fastback. Now I've got
10:00
this in a long design which I think is really beneficial for those wanting to take their hands
10:05
and wrists out the stroke and just be able to rock the shoulders. It comes in a 38 inch length. I
10:10
think there is an option for a slightly longer one for those taller players but it's got a 17 inch
10:16
counterbalance grip, a slightly stiffer shaft obviously because of the longer length and heavier
10:20
tungsten sole weights and with that comes a new Scotty Cameron face. This has this chain link
10:27
design here which was tested on tour and loved so much that it's been bought to retail. It's a
10:32
carbon steel so much softer the same metal that Jordan Spieth uses in his 009 putter and is loved
10:39
by PGA Tour players. So in terms of the benefits of this unique design this long grip means you can
10:46
grip all the way down up and down this shaft depending on what feels comfortable for you. If
10:50
if you're like me you've suffered from a bad back then you might actually want to grip it right at
10:54
the top and you can simply just hold on and rock your shoulders. I feel like it squares the face up
10:59
really well but vice versa if you've got shorter putts and you're a bit more nervous getting your
11:04
hands down low getting a bit more weight above the hands as well I feel just counterbalances that
11:09
weight even better and just allows you to pop that ball in the hole. But if I was pushed to find one
11:15
mallet that I thought probably stood out above the rest it would have to be the tailor-made spider
11:20
at all. Now this one is in fact the older kind of head style that was brought to fame through the
11:25
likes of Jason Day and Dustin Johnson but this has continued due to its popularity. Scotty Scheffler
11:31
and Rory McIlroy, the world's number one and two, are both in a tailor-made spider putter which I
11:35
think says a lot about the technology they use. Through this pure roll design here on the face
11:40
this insert is really soft, gets the ball rolling really well no matter what surfaces you're putting
11:45
on and you even have this dual weighting system in the rear here taking the weight to the perimeter
11:50
and increasing the MOI. These are standard come with a super stroke pistol 1.0 grip which I think
11:57
sits in your hands really well and the flat edge on the grip here helps you just square your thumbs
12:02
up helps square the face up and you've got clear path technology and a single sight line through
12:07
the back to help even more of alignment. So thanks to the alignment technology perimeter weighting
12:12
and the performance of the pure roll insert. That is why I have found this to be the best
12:18
mallet putter that I tested this year. It's brilliant from long range and helps me when
12:22
I get down to those short five footers that I really need to hold. So the first putter that I'm going to talk about in the blade category is the Toulon Hollywood
12:35
Now Hollywood is probably the correct word for this putter because it is absolutely stunning
12:40
It's got this black finish, this anthracite finish across the top and this sight dot on top I think
12:46
For me I someone who doesn putt with lines in mind I like to use my fill and this bladed putter really helps me do so The dot on top again just centres the ball really nicely and the shoulders on the back here are really really soft Now soft is the word that Sean Toulon used to describe this whole
13:04
range. They wanted it to be soft off the face and soft in looks and they have absolutely nailed it
13:09
with this putter. You do get two weights on the bottom here as well to just increase the MOI a
13:13
touch for a milled putter. I think you can't go wrong with this. Now an honourable mention in this
13:19
category would have to be the Wilson Staff Model BL22. Now, it comes with these two 10 gram weights
13:25
again, to help with stability, but it does offer quite a firm feel thanks to the shallow milling
13:31
on the face here. But if you're someone who likes that kind of clicky sound off the face
13:36
then this is certainly a blade you're going to want to check out. Now, for those of you that
13:40
prefer a center shafted design and a zero torque design at that, this is the Beta Nardi, the
13:46
antidote SB1. SB1 stands for simply balance one. They also have a number two which is a much much
13:52
larger mallet head design but the alignment features here are really really cool. You've
13:57
got this kind of t-bar alignment although they are unjoined on the back of the flange and the top line
14:02
here. You also get the beautiful honeycomb milling on the sole here which I think looks absolutely
14:07
superb in your hand and down behind the ball I just feel like it frames the ball really nicely
14:14
despite being a centre shafted putter. You don't get the shafting that you get on other
14:19
zero torque models. This one just sits bolt upright and I think makes your hands just sit
14:24
behind the ball really really well. The technology in the face here as well is very very soft which
14:30
helped me with distance control. It's not as forgiving as you can imagine as other zero torque
14:35
putters that have a much larger head but it's really really consistent once you get inside 15
14:40
feat. If I was to pick one winner for the blade category though it would have to be this Kevin
14:45
Burns 9307 putter. Now for those of you slightly unfamiliar with the name Kevin Burns he is a master
14:52
putter maker that has been around for a long time and he is building putters out of California
14:57
The milling on this thing is absolutely exceptional. It is so clean. You've got this sight line on the
15:02
top here. His little kind of K and then a fire pit logo on the bottom there and he does actually
15:08
feature this tungsten sole weight here which counteracts the weight in the hill so you get a
15:14
really nice balanced design. The face itself produces a really really soft feel which I really
15:19
like. It's this kind of pyramid design which the spikes kind of poke up minimizing the amount of
15:25
ball on the face which helps then eradicate any kind of vibrations up the shaft producing a really
15:30
soft feel helping you with distance control and for that reason this is my favourite blade putter
15:35
of this year. now there have been some fantastic putter releases this year as well as some carry-on
15:44
products from last year that i thought were exceptional but there was one putter for me
15:49
that stood out in 2025 and that is the lab golf oz1i now if you've seen my best zero torque putters
15:57
video you'll actually see that the odyssey square to square cruiser actually won that video beating
16:02
this putter but since then i've had a couple more months testing and i've just found i click better
16:08
with this one. I think it's down to the standard length that I've got on this and I really really
16:13
enjoyed the forward press pistol grip that comes with this putter. It's two degrees essentially
16:18
offsetting the shaft lean that you get on this putter. Now you can get these with zero shaft lean
16:23
if you prefer I guess a more standard conventional centre shafted design but I think these are
16:29
designed this way for a reason and for that reason I prefer it with the shaft lean in play. So why
16:35
have I chosen this as my favourite putter? Well I just became really really consistent from range
16:40
helping me to putt certainly more than I was three putting and then down behind the ball I just got
16:45
used to the shaft lean on the putter setting my hands slightly in front of the ball from producing
16:50
a really centered strike. When I got inside the scoring zone I found I was just hauling a few more
16:55
putts from that 10 foot range really bolstering my scores and ultimately putting comes down to about
17:00
50% of your score on the golf course. My scores were tumbling and I just started falling in love
17:04
this putter. So thanks for watching, that's all from me. Thank you to Woburn for hosting us here
17:09
at the beautiful Tavistock Short Game area. Hope you enjoyed the video and helped you select which
17:14
putter may be best for your game. We'll see you next time
