We're here at the Titleist Performance Centre at Woburn where I'm going to be fitted into the
0:04
Titleist Vokey SM11 wedges. We're going to go meet John in the fitting bay now and get started
0:20
Right we're here with John. John, great to see you again. And you. Really exciting video because we
0:25
are getting fitted into the bokeh sm11s correct yeah so talk us through the process well normally
0:31
obviously if you came up to tpc we'd be doing predominantly a lot of this off of the turf that's
0:36
that's the whole reason we've got the facility utilize as much of the turf conditions as possible
0:40
but we kind of want to throw a little spin on that one the conditions at the minute this time
0:45
of year are going to be really soft so if we do it solely based off turf conditions you're going to
0:49
be in probably a different grind to what you would be in the when you're playing at your
0:53
you most frequent so like in the summer months or in the better months but also what we like want to
1:00
show everybody is we've got an app that helps trade accounts fitters indoor environments where
1:06
they're trying to fit people for wedges simplify the process and go through the process in their
1:12
environment using a tool that that basically just goes off of your dynamic so you would you would
1:18
select what the golfer right hand left hand what their handicap would be and then the typical
1:24
conditions of their course so this is valuable for me because when you're talking to players they
1:29
might say you know i'm a traveling golfer so i play links a lot i also play parkland so you've
1:35
got different scenarios and these can be tweaked what's your level of confidence outside of getting
1:39
out of a bunker so to give you an idea this is can't get out it's a tall player definitely not
1:46
not tour player, definitely not, can't get out. So I'd go more, I think, yeah
1:51
Fairly confident out of the bunker. So we will gap that and that's pretty normal to yourself
1:58
Yeah, that's bang on for me, yep. So 50, 54, 60. And all the app's trying to do is
2:03
it's recommended the lofts based on how we can get a 60 in your bag
2:08
and what would be the most beneficial stretching. So like, ideally four degrees would be best
2:14
but that would leave you with 58. So is when we get into the next bit and we start explaining what you use the wedges for
2:21
if you never hit full shots with the 60, the stretch between 54 and 60 will be less of a thing
2:28
Then if someone says oh no I normally hit like full shots with my 60 and then you might want to potentially look at 54 56 or maybe even bending them to be 55 We use TrackMan so if you using the TrackMan system
2:41
I've set up on course practice and obviously we've got this view which is great but if you're
2:46
indoors you're not going to have that view you're going to have that on a screen so at least it
2:50
gives the player a scenario that they're going to be hitting into a flag and a green and that's
2:55
the visual that they're seeing, and then we'll change the yardage as we change club
2:58
So three stock shots with what would be your 45. Yep, I've got your green there
3:05
I've got your pin pointed out at 136. I'm going to go
3:55
This is where it's important that the person being fitted is as honest as possible
4:06
While I do play all year round, for me, it's more important that my wedges perform when I'm
4:11
playing competitive golf, which tends to be from April till September. So the ground would be
4:18
slightly firmer. Perfect. And that's a great example as to look, if you were saying like
4:23
all year round and i go to places like spain and the states where the grass is different this could
4:29
potentially work a little bit better as a travel set because it will cover most conditions gotcha
4:34
but you see as soon as you go to like let's say you said you know what i don't do any of that i
4:38
just play i want a set of wedges for when i'm playing in the middle of the high season yeah
4:43
elite level golf conditions are going to be tight and firm you can see here everything changed
4:49
you've gone from 12 to 8. Yep. In the full soul, you've gone to the S grind in your 54 instead of the D
4:57
and you've gone to M grind in your 60. Gotcha. Which is probably not far off what you got now I would assume Yep So then you get percentages and percentage matches right And the reason you have percentage matches is because based on your dynamics
5:13
there'll be a sway one way or the other. You could use either, right
5:18
Anything that's relatively close, we'll take out there. So, you see the tight pin on the right
5:24
This one? Yeah, where you haven't got loads of room to land. Yep. I want you to hit to that
5:28
Okay. First one was true
5:49
Yep. Second one you heavily manipulated and ended up missing your target by quite a bit of distance
5:55
Yeah. Got two very different interactions there, didn't I? Correct, yeah. So that'll give viewers at home an idea
6:02
as to why that may have been based on the condition. That's a very good shot
6:16
oh we talk about the versatility and why it's good to have different grinds and different wedges
6:33
because some people go i love m grind i'm just gonna have it all the way through if you just
6:37
have that grind all the way through you can only hit certain shots so if your if your ball ends up
6:43
just in the rough and it's kind of you know sat up a little bit if it's sat down you can get your
6:49
60 in behind that no problem but if it's all of a sudden like sitting a bit more perched that way
6:54
you put your 60 behind and it's airborne yeah and you've got an eight and you can't add more bounce
7:00
you can open it potentially but you've got to be so much more aggressive with it yeah you lose a bit
7:04
of that control and that versatility and your shot shaping whereas if you go to your 54 which is a 10s
7:10
and open it a little, you give it a little bit more effective bounce
7:14
And you know you can hit the same shot and use the wedge to get it to the destination you're looking for
7:21
So you're not changing techniques drastically. You're seeing how the ball is lying
7:26
and you're effectively picking the wedge. Using the tools to help you hit the shot, right
7:31
Makes sense. So the last thing I want you to do is I want you to hit a couple of long chip shots here
7:35
with the uh with the 54
7:59
very nice you see that low ball flight grabs there and then you would get slow release
8:05
yep it's really really good that feels good awesome thanks john no worries appreciate that so we ended up in 54s 54s 60m 60m and then you got
8:23
50 and an f oh wait f yep and then your 46 will bend to 45 because nothing keeps with what you've
8:29
and obviously that comes in an F. Standard, yeah, so like, because it's played more like a pitching wedge option
8:36
it'll stay as true to a pitching wedge sort of bounce profile
8:41
sole design, all of that. Awesome. Okay, I am back here in the Golf Monthly Performance Lab
8:47
and I just really wanted to give you my overall thoughts on the Titleist Vokey SM11 wedges
8:51
Having had these for personal use now for about a month or so, do they feel great
8:56
Absolutely, I think they've done a great job on these wedges but equally the sm10s were brilliant as well as have the last kind of I would
9:04
say five vokies that I've owned I've really really enjoyed the performance do they spin anymore has
9:10
has the technology changes they've made such as the five percent larger kind of surface area with
9:16
grooves the new kind of friction between the grooves as well and the direction that that runs
9:21
has that made a difference to my spin performance that I saw on the golf course not really not so much more than any other wedge that I've recently tested or the SM10s for that
9:30
matter of fact when I first put those to the test am I seeing the ball rip off the green no am I
9:36
seeing extra grab out the rough not really I'm seeing it just as much as I would probably with
9:41
any new wedge I do think they look great but equally the SM10 look great as well I do like
9:46
this new addition on the back here it's a nice nod to Wedgeworks and it it just tidies up the
9:52
look I like that the SM11 has moved down here to the hosel. Let me know down below are you going to
9:57
go and get fitted for these do you like the look of them and do you think these could make your bag
10:02
for 2026 I'd love to hear your thoughts but from me that's all we'll see you next time
