Now Tour Ridge makes some very impressive golf clubs, but it's trying to take on the titans
0:04
of the golf ball market with this. It's the Exotics Golf Ball. It's a three-piece
0:09
urethane-covered golf ball that the brand says produces incredible numbers. It's time I put that
0:14
theory to the test to see if it's all hype or if the Titleist Pro V1 has something to worry about
0:20
okay so here it is this is the Torredge Exotics golf ball and this is the technology I'm not going
0:33
to go into it now in this video if you want to read more about that hit pause check it out but
0:37
I'm going to open the box and see exactly what we're dealing with with this golf ball I've got
0:42
one ready out of the box and this is it it has a pretty good looking feel to it I would say it's
0:48
a little tacky feel to the cover and i've got a tight list pro v1 to compare it with latest
0:53
iteration you'll see actually the tight list does have a slightly more brighter white sheen to it
0:59
versus the torred which is a little bit duller but it's not too dissimilar the uh torred just
1:04
got the new torres logo on it it's sort of undergone a little bit of a rebranding here which i quite like uh the exotics side stamp looks pretty good going to help you with alignment if
1:12
you use your line on the greens but what i have noticed with the exotics ball in particular it
1:17
It does have that visible seam that runs all the way around the equator of the golf ball
1:22
And I think Titleist did have a seam back in the day, but they've obviously gone to a seamless construction now
1:27
Obviously, every golf ball, when you're joining two halves of the cover together
1:31
there's going to be a joining point. But Titleist have managed to cover that or sort of made it a bit more seamless, so to speak
1:36
Whereas the Torredge, that is visible, but it's not going to affect performance
1:41
There was a time back in the day where if you line the seam up with the golf ball, you get a few more yards off the tee
1:45
that's not the case anymore with the symmetry test that the USGA run they're testing in a couple of
1:50
different orientations to make sure golf balls don't perform differently depending on how you
1:54
align the seam so you're not going to have any concerns there generally speaking looks like a
1:58
pretty good premium ball I think it's time we put it to the test I'm going to hit some wedge shots
2:03
here on the practice screen at Peter Vermilson see how it reacts on those shorter shots and then
2:07
we'll get some data. Right so I'm just going to chip a few away got a pretty standard chip shot
2:11
here tight line to a pin about 10 yards away but before i do i'm just going to do a little
2:16
wedge bounce test and i think that was the tall edge that's the tight list i think the tight list
2:24
feels a little bit more lively a little bit more click to it slightly louder sound versus the tall
2:30
edge which i think does feel and sound a little bit softer so that's interesting um let's hit a
2:37
chip shot here with the Tor Edge. See what sort of reaction we get when it lands and what sort of
2:43
flight we get. That popped up quite high. A little bit of grab but not loads. I've got my towel here
2:51
Let's just make sure the face is nice and dry and hit one with the tight list because
2:57
it'll be interesting to see how they compare on a pretty bog standard chip shot
3:03
right you can see how much lower that came out way more spin on that one i don't know if you
3:10
hopefully you picked that up loads more grab um on a on a shorter shot let's try the tour edge again
3:16
that was really interesting like chalk and cheese those two flights it already i hit that a bit hard again that me that releasing out quite a lot Let try the tight list revert back to that one see if we can hit a similar shot
3:33
maybe a little bit too hard. Again, much lower, way more check
3:43
So the differences between the two balls are becoming a little bit clear. One more with the
3:47
tour edge. Well to be fair that one came out pretty low and gripped up nicely maybe I spoke
3:56
too soon so I think inconclusive looks like the tight list might be giving me a slightly lower
4:01
flight which suggests a little bit more friction on the face and a little bit more spin on that
4:06
second bounce but then that tour edge that last ball definitely put the cat amongst the pigeons
4:10
was very similar to the tight list in terms of flight and spin so not mastered difference
4:15
I do think the Titleist has a little bit more action on the greens on this sort of standard
4:19
chip shot. Going to hit a few more shots, different lies around the greens, and then
4:22
we're going to head inside and capture that all-important launch monitor data. Right, so I've come indoors to the studio here at Peter Milton Golf Club. I've got the
4:43
Foresight Sports GC Quad Launch Monitor ready to go and I'm going to hit a 50 yard pitch shot
4:48
a 7 iron and a driver with the Torreg Exotics Golf Balls and I will do the same
4:52
with the latest iteration of the Titleist Pro V1 Golf Ball to see how the data compares
4:58
Let's get the test underway. Okay, so I've done all my testing here on the Short Game area at Peterborough Milton
5:24
Golf Club. I've hit chip shots, pitch shots, bunker shots, shots out of the rough, you name it
5:28
I've hit them all. And then I've gathered my data indoors in a controlled environment on the launch monitor
5:33
to see exactly how the Tor Edge Exotics ball performs and how it compares to the Titleist
5:38
Pro V1. And the data and the findings are really interesting. So starting with a 50-yard pitch shot
5:44
there's hardly any difference between these two golf balls. I'll flash up the data on the screen
5:49
You can see here the Titleist Pro Beyond was spinning around about 100 RPM more
5:54
but hardly anything in it. Very similar ball speed, similar launch angle
5:58
and obviously a very similar spin. So not really much in it. And I have to say
6:03
hitting some additional short game shots around the green here, I noticed the Torres ball was spinning
6:08
just as much with the Titleist, to be honest. does feel a little bit softer than the title this but in terms of control and spin it's very
6:15
comparable so and that theme continued with the 7 iron you can see here the numbers are almost
6:21
identical pretty much exactly the same ball speed exactly the same launch exactly the same spin just
6:27
under 6,000 on the 7 iron exactly the same peak height and exactly the same carry distance at 169
6:34
yards. Very competitive, but exactly the same. And now we move on to the driver. And here
6:39
there's, you could argue, where the biggest difference in between the two balls lie, but
6:43
it's not a big difference by any means. And I'll flash it up on the screen. You can see here the Titleist was around about a mile an hour quicker than the Torridge Exotics but not a great deal in it But the Torridge ball did actually launch about a degree higher and created a two higher peak height than the Tireless
7:01
So that is a considerable difference compared to all the other clubs that I've tested between the two golf balls
7:06
Spin was very similar, and the Pro V1 was a yard longer on average than the Torredge
7:11
So very, very competitive. And it's really interesting to see, looking at the numbers and the experience
7:16
that I had around the green here, not much in it between these two golf balls
7:19
but there's one test i really just want to do because when you're testing golf balls
7:24
indoors on a launch monitor it's using algorithms to calculate the ball flight and the distance and
7:31
the total distance so i want to put this to the test out on the golf course in a real world
7:35
environment hit some shots with both these golf balls really assess the effect of the dimple
7:40
dimple pattern and the overall design to see exactly actually on the golf course are there
7:45
any significant differences in distance between Tor Edge Exotics and the Titleist Pro V1. So let's
7:49
get on to the golf course and hit a few shots. Okay so the Tor Edge ball has passed every test
7:55
I have to say, with flying colours, but this is the last hurdle. It has to overcome a real-world
7:59
environment test with Driver. Now we're looking at things like stability of flight, the consistency
8:05
of the flight, but also to see if the differences we saw in the launch wanted to actually materialise
8:09
out on the golf course and then we're also going to see where these tee shots finish. So I've got
8:13
pink castle tees to make sure i'm teeing the ball up the same height every time i'm going to hit
8:18
three hopefully good drives with the torred exotics then three with the tightest pro v1
8:24
probably interspersed you know switching between two as we go through but just want to see what
8:28
actually transpires in a real world environment we've got a little bit of wind in two off the
8:32
left so it'll be a really tough test on this difficult hole here at people milson the fourth
8:37
hole let's see what we do this is the torred golf ball first
8:43
I hit that one pretty nicely. Just down the left in the rough, but it was a good hit
8:53
Obviously, we saw in the launch monitor that the Tor Edge did fly a little bit higher than
8:58
the tireless, but actually went lower than I was expecting. So let's hit another one with the Tor Edge
9:04
Oh, that's a nice shot. A little bit higher, a little bit down the right
9:13
Okay, let's hit one more with that, the Tor Edge, and then we'll hit some with the Titleist
9:21
so dealing between those two would be lovely. There we go. Right, we're in business
9:32
Three pretty good ones with the Tor Edge. Let's hit three with the Titleist Pro V1
9:40
Oh, that is nutted. I mean that was probably a better hit than what I did with Tor Edge but..
9:46
Oh, that's a bit left down where that first Tor Edge ball went
9:57
Okay, not the best hit. I mean looking at the flight, pretty similar in terms of height
10:02
You know, I'm watching it in the clouds. There's not much difference there. oh my goodness me that is absolutely nutted right let's go and see where those golf balls
10:16
finished very interesting i have to say curvature of the flight sort of stability of the flight trajectory peak height very similar so comparable in terms of the viewing experience of the tee let go and see where they finished right so we up on the fairway here six shots no gimmies these exactly where they finished i
10:32
not touched them i promise and here is uh one of the shots i hit with the tore edge golf ball
10:38
and you see if we walk along so the t's up there so this is the sort of rough hitting area that
10:43
is the straightest one I hit with the Tor edge and then the other Tor edge ball is over in the
10:50
rough so I hit two in the rough one with each ball actually the Tor edge went a little bit further than the tight list but they weren't very good hits either of those so just in the rough
10:57
there sort of similar distance to where these were and then obviously hit two good shots with
11:01
the tight list probably one this is the first one so it's only you know one or two yards further
11:06
than where the good shots with the Tor edge ball finished but if we go a little bit further up you'll
11:12
see here now this is where that last shot I hit with the Titleist ball finished it's a good well
11:19
should we pace it out let's pace it out so that's the best shot with the tour edge so we're talking
11:25
one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen fourteen paces longer than
11:37
a decent hit with the Tour Edge. So I think in summary, I'm speculating here, but maybe the dimple
11:45
pattern, the aerodynamics just cut through the wind a little bit better with the Titleist and as a
11:50
result, as you can see, gave me a lot more distance than I got with the Tour Edge. The Tour Edge ball
11:54
was comparable on decent hits but on really well-struck drives, I think you might get a little
12:00
bit more out of the Titleist Pro V1 than the launch one I suggested earlier. Right, so hopefully this
12:05
This video has given you a really clear idea as to the performance of the Torage Exotics
12:10
balls and how it compares to arguably one of the very best in its category, the Titleist
12:14
Pro V1. As you can see from the data that we got, performance was very comparable. I
12:19
do think on the course you might experience a little bit more performance out of a ball
12:24
like the Titleist Pro V1. As I said, it just gave me a little bit more penetration through
12:28
the wind in this particular test. But the real kicker here with the Torage Exotics ball
12:34
£39.99 a dozen. That is considerably less expensive than the Pro-Evy one. So in terms of
12:40
value for money, I do actually think you're probably getting a little bit more from the
12:45
Torway Exotics. And this is a real game changer for me. At this price point, the performance you're
12:50
getting around the green, 7-iron, it was very similar. And off the tee, you're not sacrificing
12:56
a great deal. So I think Titleist maybe needs to be a little bit worried. We've seen a lot of other
13:00
brands Mizuno making really good balls, Snell making really good balls, Legato and now Tour
13:05
Edge there's a lot of competition at that slightly lower price point I think might get Titleist a
13:10
little bit worried obviously Titleist potentially edging it here in this test but there's not a lot
13:15
in it at all. Hopefully you enjoyed this video if you did like it click the like button subscribe

to the Golf Monthly YouTube channel and let me know down in the comments below I really want to
13:24
hear from you are you considering Tour Edge as a golf ball brand is this a ball you would play
13:29
based on the experience I've had in this video. I'd love to hear from you in the comments
13:33
But that's all from me here at Peter McMillton Golf Club. I'll see you next time
