Okay, we've got a really exciting video for you here today
0:02
We are in the Philippines, it is roasting hot. We're at St. Helena Golf Club
0:07
and I'm here with the Brian Bros. So, which way do you wanna start
0:22
Do you wanna start with the big dogs and work down, or do you wanna start at the wedges and the putters and work up
0:26
Let's start with the wedges. They're probably most exciting clubs in our bag, because BB803 Tacoma Wedges
0:32
our collaboration with Tacoma to kind of like co-produce a wedge, like with Wesley and I's input
0:38
their expertise, and yeah, built something really amazing, honestly. It's helped, like I was like
0:43
how can these wedges, you know, they're not like the traditional tireless cleave, whatever
0:49
can they do tour level wedges? And they have, like my wedge game
0:52
actually has gotten better, especially around the greens. And we got some custom grinding on there as well
0:57
Yeah, and then full face grooves. because I live on the tow
1:01
Yeah, so it's been cool because they look good, they perform well, and they're at a price point where it's very affordable
1:08
Yeah, I mean, it's the most affordable wedge on the market. And so we were excited to make something
1:13
that was very accessible to everybody. No matter if they're going to go buy a new wedge
1:18
there's no reason for them to go elsewhere because of price point
1:23
And so we got the name BBs, obviously, for Brian Bros. 803 is the area code where we're from in South Carolina
1:28
So that's pretty special. It must be pretty cool to see your name, you know, or initials at least on a wedge that you guys have helped input, right
1:36
Yeah, no, it was probably like a two-year process of like them like saying, hey, how does this look
1:41
How does this look? And giving feedback back and forth. Because then you think, oh, you're sure they're going to listen to our input, but are they really
1:48
Because at the end of the day, it's their decision. And so it was cool that they took our feedback and like we actually worked together on producing something that we're proud of
1:54
So yeah, it was pretty surreal when we like set up to him had him our hands like wow it actually happened
2:00
Yeah, show you guys to come over for making this dream come true And in terms of your set up so you I can see you both got 58. Do you both go
2:07
54 50 after that or yep, wait, I thought you were 50. I thought you were 55 and 52. Well, I was oh
2:15
Well, I was 58 56 50 them where you know and then i went to honestly i just ended up with a 54 don't really know how or
2:25
why but that was the first one that was since no no no i just that's that's the one that came to me
2:30
they had all of them and this is the one i started messing around with and so just adjusted my yard
2:34
ages a little bit that's cool yeah now we're in a 54 awesome and what shafts are you guys playing
2:39
in those at the moment uh currently some nippon modus but when you see these next well no the
2:45
wedges gonna be saying oh george i'm just saying i'm gonna be tinkering you're gonna tinker you're
2:49
gonna have them in the bag for he's trying out these new graphite shafts that jason day is playing
2:53
yeah jason day was like not sponsored by him he's like graphite shafts of the future i'm said
2:57
say less i like the way you hit it the kbs tgi's uh yeah yeah yeah see okay i've been there i've
3:04
tested some of odors so uh um yeah i'm excited no but so the i got the nippans i go standard
3:10
S400. S400. Yep, I have those in my wedges since I was a kid, basically. So familiar. Yep. Awesome
3:17
And then sticking with Tacomo throughout the irons here. Yep. Talk us a bit about these and
3:22
why you love these so much. 301s throughout the bag for me. No, they're just a classic stand. Like
3:28
they're not too bladey. They're not too, like, game improvement. Neither, like, a perfect blend of, like, it's like a muscle cavity, right? Yeah, I need a lot of help, honestly. I've gotten
3:35
And I've hit it worse and worse the older I've gotten. And so, but still, I like looking at blades for, like, you know, a smaller profile
3:43
And these are a good blend of, like, not too big, not too small. And they produce pretty well
3:49
Like, you know, Wesley, when he switched, when he was on the PGA Tour, he was, like, top five in, like, strokes gained or just proximity to the hole with irons
3:58
And so that shows you, like, hey, just because they're a direct-to-consumer, like, you can still, they can still perform at a tour level
4:04
Absolutely. You know, you guys wouldn't have them in play this week if you didn't believe that, right
4:08
And honestly, I've played all irons, and I've said for years that irons don't matter
4:15
And I still will say that the brand of iron doesn't matter. I feel like they're all the same
4:20
And again, Tacoma, they've been an unbelievable brand to work with, and they produced an iron that is just as competitive as a Titleist or TaylorMade or Cobra or whatever or Srixon iron and I played all of those irons throughout my career and I didn notice any difference as soon as I switched to the Tacomo
4:39
And again, for like half of the price or a third of the price from some of those that are on the
4:43
market, it made it a no-brainer for us to go and say, hey, do you want to play what we're playing
4:49
If you're in the market for new irons, this makes the most sense possible
4:53
And so it gets interesting for me. Yeah, that's the first thing I've noticed here
4:58
And so I've got, so I guess I'll start with a Tacoma one
5:02
This is a four iron that's bent to a five iron. It's wildly oversized
5:06
It's the 101U and it's got the loft of a five iron
5:11
but this is the club that I feel more comfortable flighting it down. Makes absolutely no sense
5:15
Don't ask me how or why that ended up. And it's got a completely different shaft in it. Don't even know what this is
5:21
It's some mid X100 something or another that I think is lighter than the rest of them
5:26
But this was built up in Napa a few years ago. And probably my favorite club is the Jack of all trades
5:33
I can hit it high, low, left or right. It goes anywhere from 190 to 230, depending on how I want to hit it
5:39
And then this four iron has been in the bag for years and years and years and years. And I haven't found one that goes as high and as far as this one can go
5:47
Just hits your window. You know what you're getting. If I need it to go 230 and straight up in the air, I pretty much can do that
5:53
And so these clubs, they go like really close to the same distance
5:58
But the five iron is the one that I shot shape and work more
6:02
The four iron is just the standard. If I got 225 to 235 and got to hit it high and hit it soft
6:07
And so this club is going to be hard to get out of the bag because it's like I said, it's a unicorn
6:12
And you said you had, you know, a different shaft completely in that kind of utility makeshift five iron
6:17
What shafts are you playing in the rest of your irons at the moment? The regular
6:21
Tori Shoe X100. X100. I don't know what this mid, so you can tell me you're the, whatever we're gonna forget about that
6:28
You can tell me what's the difference in that and what the regular X100, you're a, you're a techie guru
6:34
It would just be from a kick point standpoint. Oh yeah, kick, yeah kick point, yeah. Yeah, I know all about kick points
6:39
So, so is that why it goes lower? So what would make it go lower based on the kick point
6:44
So it's slightly stiffer tip section. So interestingly, I'm not sure why this actually goes lower because in all honesty, you've got a lot of weight in the bottom here
6:52
the cgs lower and therefore it should pop higher. Oh no it makes perfect sense. So yeah it makes
6:59
sense that it goes lower right? It makes sense. So anybody that's built a club for me so once we
7:03
get to the driver you'll understand any anytime I get a golf lesson if I do what an instructor
7:08
tells me to do I hit it terrible. If I do the complete opposite I'll hit it good. Same thing
7:12
with equipment in my golf bag. If someone says cause and effect do this it'll produce x it'll
7:17
produce the opposite the complete opposite of x for me. At least you know what you're asking for
7:22
then so you could go in and just go i need you know the highest launching product out there and
7:27
you know yeah it's perfect for links yeah exactly exactly and how about you george what what are
7:33
shafts have you got in those um no i got thinners kind of moving on from nippon as well yeah i've
7:39
all those the the modus uh don't know why apparently they were good but then club fair
7:44
said i don't know how those work for you so i'm like huh i don't know do they work and so now he's
7:49
in the market for a shaft he's never hit before and he's super excited about it
7:53
No, but I go more on feels and they do feel good in the weighting and when I do hit it
7:57
well, it does what I want it to do. But I couldn't tell you why. Go off the numbers, go off the bull flight
8:06
I think more people should do that to be honest. I'm just really old school and my brain doesn't work in data. I need someone to
8:13
tell me why and I just hit it and kind of figure it out
8:17
And to be fair, most people watching this, they can really like and appreciate the technology
8:22
but at the end of the day, there's no substitute for the hours that you actually need to spend hitting it
8:27
And so it's more of just like telling your buddies what you got in it and gaining knowledge
8:32
but applying that knowledge is, again, for guys at our level, it's still obsolete at times
8:38
You're a level. No, don't put yourself down, Jordan. No, we're both Asian tour players this week
8:43
Yeah, there you go. Same event? Yeah. Thank you. So then I can see you've got a hybrid in the bag here
8:48
Yeah, we've got three hybrid. We've got the Cobra DS Adapt. Bit of lead tape on there as well
8:54
I don't know if it's in the right spot, but I needed it. It was a little too light, so I just put a little to make it
8:57
But no it like a 250 240 club Okay And definitely just a one trick pony Like it really just does what it needs to do It the same every time
9:10
Yeah, it's like a full 240 shot. It has a mind of its own. Yeah, yeah. Nice
9:14
This one right here. TSR 3, nice. This is a 19 degree, and this club has had some really, really good days and good shots
9:23
and it's also got some really bad ones. Okay. I would say as of late, it has a real tendency to go left
9:30
Probably my doing, but I like it just, it's a higher launch, lower spin
9:37
which you would think that would be good off tees. But when I hit it off tees, I miss fairways
9:42
And when I hit it into greens, I usually hit good shots. So that's what it needs to do
9:46
Yeah, it's probably a mental block that I have whenever I plop it down onto a tee box
9:50
It's interesting because we've talked a lot about hybrids dying out on tour
9:54
and stuff recently at work. and to see both you guys with hybrids in the bag
9:58
have you experimented much with driving irons or lofted fairway woods? That's a sore subject
10:03
We're also the older guys in the field now. We're kind of the old school of the bunch
10:09
It's a bunch of young guys out here now that hit two irons straight up in the air, and then they've all gone to seven woods for some reason
10:15
and I can't quite figure that one out. Yeah, I mean, I hit a shot in Bermuda last year
10:20
I was searching. I needed a hybrid or I love the driving iron
10:24
I'd hit this top into a hospitality tent. Yeah, literally into a coffee stand
10:32
And from that moment, I said, never again. That was enough scarring. Oh, yeah
10:36
No more driving hours for George. No, I like that. He needs to get the ball airborne. Yeah
10:39
Back to the basics. Three wood, no reason to talk about it. This is the worst club in my bag
10:44
Don't even know why it's in there. Will literally never hit it unless I absolutely have to
10:48
Okay. It has the ability to go all sorts of directions and trajectories, but one out of two or one out of three
10:58
No reason to talk about it. No, one out of two or one out of three is unbelievable, but this thing, there's a reason it looks brand new
11:05
It's been in the bag for a year. You just said you were going to not talk about it. You just talked a minute about it
11:10
Let's go to the driver. Wait, talk about your three-wood. You've got the tops and skies with it
11:14
We're leaving it under there. That's staying in the cover? No, it's fine
11:17
Which one do you even have? Is it a Callaway? Yeah, it's the Rogue. I got the Elite, by the way
11:22
And I thought you might actually move on to Driver because you played the Rogue for probably three years
11:29
And it was great. Johnny, I wonder, fit me into a great, hit a lot of fairways
11:33
Just had a little too much spin of late. And the older I've gotten, I've wanted to hit it further for whatever reason
11:38
And so I messed around with the Blue Board and put that in the Rogue
11:43
And it knocked a little spin off. I was thinking good. I was like, man, I want to search
11:46
and so like just tried a bunch of drivers out and uh this tireless it went it took my driver from
11:51
we got a t or the gt3 yeah spin numbers let's talk about spin numbers george i mean like my
11:56
the callaway was 28 to 3100 like consistently like on a good one was 28 and now this one is like
12:02
the high end spin is 25 26 and down to like 23 so i mean i picked up a little bit of ball speed but
12:08
i mean probably 10 to 15 yards just on you know getting that spin and have you noticed like the
12:13
launch is still kind of the same or is it a touch lower again this one does fade a little more than
12:18
other one but again my my left miss really it's more of a it's a more powerful fade with this
12:23
tireless one than the the callaway one was a little weak did you have an eight degree in
12:28
in the rogue as well or i think i did it was nine it was nine uh turned down to a okay so
12:34
nine and a half to an eight and a half but no this i mean yeah so it's been fun but um i'm actually
12:38
like low-key to come i just uh released her new driver that we've been messing around with and
12:42
like probably this off season I mean off season like I'm a tournament player anymore but this
12:46
this winter like do some experimenting but no this one's been I mean it's taken a lot of spin
12:51
off and like I think elevated my driving um you done talking about it yet no I love my driver
12:55
loves it this right here um again this is one of those uh for years and years I searched for a
13:02
driver because I was the worst driver on the PGA Tour for about five six straight years okay and
13:07
And again, I hit it short, really, really crooked. And then everyone kept telling me go either shorter driver, heavier shaft, lower launch
13:20
all the things to try and get you to hit it straight. And I ended up going with the lightest, stiffest shaft on the market and started to try and
13:28
hit it as high as possible. Okay nice I like that Because I had the full blown driver yips and I was like I can play golf anymore Like if I keep playing golf like this I going to quit It wasn fun It gets you committing though right
13:42
Yes, I said, I want the lightest shaft possible just so at least I can feel like I'm in control of it
13:48
because I feel like I was losing the club head and just not really feeling anything
13:53
and I'd make what felt like decent swings and look up, and it would be in all sorts of windows
13:58
And so I said, give me the lightest, stiffest possible, and let's just try it. Jason, our Mitsubishi guy, he goes
14:03
there's no way this is gonna work. And same thing with the guys at Calway. They're like, no way it's gonna work
14:08
I said, perfect, that means it's gonna work. That means it's gonna work. So then anyway, started launching it at 16, 17 degrees
14:15
And then picked up a lot of, I probably picked up 20, 30 yards, pretty much overnight
14:22
So you got a 50 TX in there for the guys watching. It's very light, obviously very stiff as well
14:29
the GT Diamond GT. I would say just recently did a 65 gram shaft become popular on tour because
14:36
mostly it was at 70 grams like 70 to 72 grams was very standard on tour for and this one is I think
14:42
at 51 grams so um yes considerably lighter and uh you've got the triple diamond max so you've got
14:49
that kind of low spin head but you still got the profile of kind of the standard head as well so
14:55
So the Paradigm a couple models ago, I guess, is the one that got me out of the driver-yip phase
15:02
and then they built up basically a replica of that head with the AI Smoke
15:07
And so this is where we're at now, but again, the Tacoma driver is coming with vengeance
15:13
That'll be fun to mess around with. Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing your guys' testing. I'm going to have to try and get my hands on one as well just to do my own testing
15:19
And the putter. Let's go to putters. DF3, a little Brian Bros, Lab Collab
15:24
Lab Lab Head Cover yeah yeah yeah it was fun you know this is looks cool so
15:32
yeah but anyway we got the df3 we got the tpt shaft forward press grip yep same
15:38
same literally the only thing different about ours is his is one degree or two
15:43
degrees flatter and then okay I got the line that goes all the way across awesome
15:48
and how did you guys kind of end up in in the labs were you just intrigued by everyone else
15:55
using them or yeah no like again we're you know we're willing to try a lot of things like hey what
16:02
like we've heard a lot about it let's try it we were like let's like if the hype is real like if
16:06
I don't improve my putter like why not you know um and I think again the level out here of like
16:13
you know this pro golfers isn't going to help them that much maybe not but what I've found is
16:17
Like, I don't have to practice as much, and I still start my ball in line more often
16:21
Which, again, for me, I don't know. Like, that was big. And so, I feel like it has improved that
16:28
But, again, I was always a decent putter. So, was it going to help a whole lot
16:32
Probably not. But, again, I don't practice as much as I used to, and I'm still able to, like, for the most part, day in, day out, hit my start lines
16:39
Yeah, and it's cool. And, like, yeah. It just feels good off the blade. Like, it's the most solid, consistent feeling, even when you mishit it
16:47
Did you guys experiment with the other lab models, or were you kind of just straight into the industry
16:51
Touched them all. Touched them all. But again, I'll be honest, it took me a while to get used to it
16:55
and that's what, like, Sam was like, stop trying to, like, conform to the putter
16:59
Like, let it conform to you. No, you got that backwards. You conformed to the putter
17:07
But no, it was cool, because, again, it wasn't an overnight thing. you know i was a blade like yeah and but again once i did i'm like i can see why like the sauce
17:16
in it because i just realized did you do this whole thing with a glove on yeah dedication yeah
17:22
no it's just what i do well thank you so much george thank you for joining us today
17:27
wes thank you good luck this week guys you forgot the biggest the biggest part look we got the
17:32
shoobies on our bag i mean i spoke about these off camera how much i love them i don't even know
17:35
what they are some guy just say you want everyone everyone on tour is going to have these soon i
17:39
And they're the boys. No, no, no. Everybody on tour, they have those big, gaudy golf bags
17:44
And so, stand bags. Got our logos on them. They're very cool
17:50
I'm secretly jealous, so. Yeah. Awesome. Cool. Thank you very much, guys
17:57
Thank you, thank you. We'll see you next time. See ya. See ya
