I'm thrilled to be back
0:01
I'm back, baby! Welcome to Heart Breakfast. So, throughout the show this morning
0:06
we've been talking about a very special guest that's coming in to the studios
0:10
Now, you and I, we're very excited about this part. I can't actually believe I'm about to say this
0:17
but open that door, because in we'll walk... Jamie Thinkston, everybody! Hooray! Hooray! Yay
0:28
It's so weird he's actually coming round. That's a pretty sight. That's a beautiful sight
0:35
He looks tanned and thinner. I mean, what have you been doing for the last five months
0:40
I mean, you had a fresh haircut. Well, I've got a lot to tell you
0:44
I bet. I mean, I don't even know where to start, but tell us how the last five months have been
0:51
Awful. I mean, it's been... Turn up the feel good. today today is the um fourth month anniversary of my cancer diagnosis so it's been four months
1:05
and uh i've had enough of hospitals and operations and it's just lovely to be back
1:13
and i've got some news for you because i can tell you that as of today i'm cancer free
1:19
Hooray Do we need to ring the bell We need a bell We need a bell Put it in To ring that success out which is brilliant I think the worst thing as well when something like this happens to you
1:31
is the amount of tests like you said, the amount of doctors and hospitals you have to face
1:35
and then the waiting around for results. Scans. I've had scan anxiety
1:39
I know. Exactly. And did you go on Google? Because that's also not a very good thing to do
1:44
No. I mean, anyone who's been through what I've been through will know, it's kind of you just get a barrage of statistics yeah so they'll tell you in the first one on the
1:54
when i had when i got my diagnosis which came as an enormous shock by the way i was fully intended
1:59
to be told that i had a sore throat yeah and uh when i was told oh it's probably cancer just
2:06
literally i just didn't even know what to say i mean it just it just blew my mind yeah and uh and
2:14
So then it's all about statistics. So the first is, you've got a one
2:18
there's a one in ten chance you won't survive it. And you kind of go, oh, okay, I'll take that
2:22
And then when I had to do several surgeries, so the first surgery wasn't as successful as we hoped
2:28
I had a second surgery and then a third surgery. And each time I was doing more and more damage to my vocal cords
2:35
So in actual fact, by the third one, they said, well, look, you've got a one in six chance
2:39
you might not be able to talk again. And so then you kind of think, oh, okay
2:43
Yeah that like rolling a dice Yeah I take that And so there just a kind of it just statistics after statistics Yeah And it also horrific for your loved ones Yeah Your lovely wife Sophie and the boys to sort of have to love you through it
2:57
And, you know, I know that they probably both had to go into different corners of the house
3:01
and sort of silently weep in order to come back to you and be stronger. Yeah
3:05
How are they? Yeah, it's tough because, again, you know, cancer, a whole family suffers, as you said
3:10
It's not just the individual. Yeah. And they've been amazingly supportive. Everyone has been amazingly supportive
3:16
It's been pretty much anyone who has or has ever had laryngeal cancer has been in touch
3:21
Everyone has been so supportive. It's been unbelievable. Yeah. And it's just blown me away
3:26
So I wanted to thank everyone who sent me messages. Every single person I've ever met or know has been in touch
3:35
That's so good. It's really good. People I've forgotten all about have been in touch
3:40
So that has just been amazing. Well, you should be very buoyed by that because, yes, it was huge news when it all happened
3:46
It was devastating for us all to hear it. But we are so thrilled that you sound great
3:50
And you are in the studio. What does this mean, Jamie? What does this mean
3:54
I've got some more news for you. Come on. Because I can tell you that on Monday
4:00
I'll be back on the show. Hooray! And Monday... What do you want for breakfast
4:08
So I get a line You now Today is your last show You literally do you can turn the alarm off and that is it
4:18
So 10 o'clock, where the spoons everyone? Shall we? Yeah. I did want to say that I've got a lot of thank yous that I want to do
4:25
which I will do next week. But there's one person who won't be on Monday, and that is this man here
4:30
I know. And Jay, you've done such an amazing job. You came in at the last minute, and I know what an upheaval it is
4:37
you've got a young family and literally were told oh you've got to come in tomorrow
4:40
and then from then on you didn't know how long you were going to do it for no
4:44
so it went one month then two months and then it was three months
4:49
and you've done such a fantastic job you really really have JK
4:53
you've been amazing I really appreciate it I'm looking forward to that do you know what
4:57
I saw you out and about didn't I we had a few little meetings
5:02
and you always said that really thank you for that because that's noted
5:06
It genuinely is. But I just, I'm so happy that you're sat in that chair
5:12
I'm happy that you are cancer free. It's amazing. I'm happy that the gang's back together
5:17
It is so, I can't say that word, it is so blooming good to see you, Jamie Fexton
5:21
I'm thrilled to be back. I'm back, baby! And what do you want for breakfast on Monday
