Hello, I'm Kevin Hughes. I'm in the London Irish Centre
0:02
I'm about to speak to Irish pop royalty. The big news is they will play a stadium next year
0:07
The boys are back. It's Boyzone! Hey! Hello! Hey, Kevin. Guys, it's so good to see you
0:12
Nice to see you too. Big news this morning. Shane, Keith, Ronan, we've been waiting for some sort of announcement
0:18
Ronan, you were teasing something that was coming, but the big news is it's one for the road
0:21
It's one for the road. One more. A final farewell. The final, final, final farewell
0:28
Yes, very excited. 6th of June Emirates Stadium in London we've been
0:33
you know it's been bubbling for a while we've been in talks obviously off the back
0:37
of the documentary we've had a lot of people asking are the band getting back together
0:41
are we going to do something we wanted to do something we didn't know what that was going to be
0:45
it's taken a while to find that out figure it out and here we are yeah
0:49
that has been the big question hasn't it because the documentary had such a big impact
0:53
and we learned so much Keith about your story in the background and there was
0:57
so much honesty in the doc but the residing question was now they need to
1:02
come back on stage we need to see this but how easy was that conversation for
1:06
you guys we never were going to come back together that wasn't ever a thing
1:09
the documentary took a while for us all to agree to do and it was very
1:14
therapeutic to do it the interviews that I think we we all did two interviews but
1:18
each interview took like seven and a half eight hours and that's a long time
1:22
to talk about things that you haven't spoken about out loud before it's all
1:27
not the right for things to go on in your head but when you say them out loud you understand them
1:31
differently and i think that's what makes it therapeutic and it gives us an ability to be
1:36
able to stand outside ourselves and have a look at the characters we were within that kind of
1:41
in the band it's not all bells and whistles it's not all excitement there's a lot of upset there
1:47
there's a lot of darkness there and and it makes it a lot easier when you speak about that out loud
1:54
It kind of releases it. So after that, it was an unknown kind of terrority
1:59
or unknown feeling about how other people are going to perceive it, how are they going to accept it
2:04
And the response to the documentary was phenomenal. The support was phenomenal
2:09
It was very vulnerable for us. Maybe we would have preferred to keep the circle
2:15
or the bubble around ourselves, but the bubble was burst. The vulnerability was there
2:19
and we had to figure out how to deal with that. and it's amazing the support and love that we felt
2:27
from people that weren't even Boys On fans in the first place. So that started the stories then of
2:32
well, look, you know what, maybe we need a final chapter. Maybe we can write the final chapter ourselves
2:38
and do it on our terms. And I think that's what we're trying to achieve
2:42
Because what, Shane, last time on stage together was, what, 2019? And did you really think, yeah, that's it, we're wrapping it up, that was done
2:49
I did Truly believed that Boyz On had seen its days and ends Never a friendship gone but just as music was over for us as a band and it still is really We not getting the band back together We having a celebration night really it not you know new music it not albums it none of that it just to say thank you and and to show appreciation for 33 years when we get there
3:14
33 years of support of all the people around the world and i'm actually looking really looking
3:19
forward to for another reason the last five shows we played in the palladium i was so ill
3:24
super super ill with a mad chest infection all sorts i was running off besides being ill and
3:31
i feature the songs and i didn't have the best experience to wrap boys on up you know what i
3:36
mean so the idea and keith was talking about it earlier you know the idea of the the energy and
3:41
power of an audience is incredible if you've ever stood in front of a bass speaker and felt the
3:46
actual waves in the moments of of that subwoofer that's what you get from an audience you get that
3:52
intensity and you get that just emotion and 44 000 people of emotion is going to be something
3:59
to witness for ourselves ronan are you ready for the subwoofers of emirate stadium because what's
4:05
fascinating having interviewed you talked about you guys for so many years you've never really
4:10
headlined your own stadium show i couldn't believe it when i read well yeah i know look we've played stadiums around the world but we've never headlined them it's never been a headline boys own show
4:18
so that's it was always a goal for i think all of us to you know especially here you know in in
4:25
london which we class as home you know to come here and and to do it like this at emirate stadium
4:32
it's just a dream we can't believe it we actually still can't believe it all of us when we see it
4:37
when you see the sign it's crazy i've never seen these guys so nervous can i just say this about
4:41
this announcement i never i didn't see that today but it's a lot look it's a lot you know this is
4:46
genuine this is the first time the band have been back together like this since 2019 we've done well
4:51
that we did the documentary and we did the premiere for the documentary but to be back doing this and
4:56
announcing it like this this is all kevin it's not the gig we're nervous about it's sitting being
5:00
interviewed by you come on kevin key's in the house guys my hard-hitting questions it's always
5:07
a bit of an issue but i have to stress obviously it will be four of you on stage mikey can't be
5:12
here today keith that's right but he will be with you on stage in june he will indeed he'll be he'll
5:17
be with us it'll be the four of us on stage in june because at the end of that documentary things
5:21
were a little bit obviously there was a lot of tension there was fallout um but obviously you've
5:27
resolved that it's a great thing to to know about talk me through that do you know i think i think
5:31
when it comes to all of us four boys it's always been the same you know we know how to rub each
5:36
or they're up the wrong way. And time spent together, maybe that 2018 into 19
5:42
was just that little bit too much of a length spent together, which escalated into just us being situational ships
5:51
You know what I mean? And to be able to overcome anything like that in life
5:56
is important also. It's important to kind of mend things that possibly were broken once upon a time
6:02
We not here for a long time are you know it it we don know we not promised tomorrow so again this kind of an opportunity is is is great to be able to do to be able to like we going to see Mick later on today and I haven seen him you know
6:15
I've spoke to him over the phone, but I haven't physically seen the man. And after watching the documentary, I'm really looking forward to seeing him, you know
6:21
The set list, obviously, so many songs, so many hit records, number one singles
6:27
You've got, Ronan, your pick, you've got a good set of pick up tunes. Do you know what you want to play? Is it going to be all the hits
6:31
So obviously we'll do all of the hits, you know, whatever we have there from the 90s and the couple that we had in the noughties
6:39
But yeah, I mean, it's, you know, we're teeing up a few surprises, a few guests, special guests as well
6:46
But it will very much be a celebration of Boyzone of the 33 years, especially the 90s
6:53
You know, that is really important. Very happy to hear this. Yeah, very
6:57
And I think most people will be. you know you don't want to go see a boy's own
7:01
at you know the Emirates Stadium and hear the B-Sides and you know
7:05
the difficult second album you want the hits so that's what we'll give you and surprises Keith
7:09
some special guests I'd imagine so tell him nothing tell him nothing tell him nothing yeah
7:14
you know we've met a lot of people in the business over the years
7:18
and people that have had a big impact on boy's own and on us as individuals
7:22
so I'm sure we'll be inviting a few friends out to surprise the audience
7:26
have you guys had a chance to talk to Gary the Take That boys
7:30
because obviously they're back with the Circus Tour next year are they playing stadiums
7:34
I believe I didn't know that yeah geez Kevin you'd believe that
7:38
Take That or coming back yeah I just wondered if they know about your news stop it
7:42
they're back for a go-tro no they're not have some patience never forget Keith
7:47
as a I'm praying an era of collaboration within that kind of
7:52
boy band central and you know we're all kind of coming back together
7:56
which is who can you imagine yeah and you know I'm delighted they're out
8:01
we're out Fiverr out I don't know who else is out but you know what I mean there's loads of us
8:05
and it's a great support network I think and it shows solidarity
8:09
within the music industry for the likes of us bands and remember a million love songs later
8:13
it'll be a great show bye babe back again I was thinking though Ronan
8:18
with all of your connections could you sort out the Spice Girls coming back together next year
8:22
that is only a rumour Alicia and Mystique it's nothing to do with me yeah the new lead singer
8:27
of the Spice Girls Yes. World exclusive. Blondie Spice. One thing we have to talk about is there will be an amazing moment
8:33
and a poignant moment, I know, in your show, because you've done this in the last few tours
8:38
You will remember Stephen Gailey, the Fabric Steele, within the show. And I have to show you this
8:42
This is the last time I was with Stephen and the boys in 2008. This is the grey
8:46
Have a look at that picture there. There you were. And he came back and taught me through
8:52
Kevin, that's you at Westlife. What are you talking about? You look like a parrot, Kevin
8:57
Oh no, that is a power. There is a genuine power in there. Talk us through that haircut, Kev
9:01
Yeah, it was a beautiful time. Frosted tips and we're awake. But there will be a moment, of course, where you celebrate
9:08
A hundred percent a million percent Every night that we on stage together since we lost Theo we celebrate his life When the four of us are together he in the room
9:19
So there'll be something incredibly special. You know, bittersweet that he's not on that stadium stage with us, but he will be
9:28
Trust us, he will be. Yeah, bringing back so many good memories, Shane, I'm sure. Yeah, you know, I think that's one of the things with us boys
9:36
is Steele's very alive when we're together. And there is a part of him that runs through us internally
9:44
And it comes like that. It's a part of our emotion. It's a part of our spirit
9:49
It's a part of our character. And he kind of instilled a certain way within the band
9:56
And we only get that. We only get that when we actually get together
10:00
you know, sitting in the back of a van being very silly. A bit of blood paper
10:04
kind of way to see what you do also family bringing family and friends to this show could
10:10
be a big moment because the family's got bigger uh three four generations potentially seeing you
10:15
back on stage some of the family maybe never seen you on stage i think that's part of this as well
10:19
you know for you know for all of us um the kids to see us like this you know this is what we do
10:26
especially like my youngins they're eight and five my older kids got to see it somewhat but
10:31
But Cooper and Coco, never got to see boys on. Well, Cooper's there a little bit when we did the Asian shows
10:36
He came out, but Coco wasn't around. So, yeah, it'll be quite nice for them to see what Daddy does
10:42
Because, yeah, yeah. And Keith, nerves going back on stage at all
10:46
Do you suffer a lot of anything? No, I mean, I'm still gigging away at the moment
10:51
but I still get nervous going on stage. Absolutely, I do. I think it kind of keeps you on point
10:56
You know, make sure that you're on point and you give 100%. Fans deserve that
11:00
and we need to give it. So I'm very nervous even considering it
11:04
even thinking about it. I'm very apprehensive and nervous about being nervous. He's nervous about being nervous
11:08
I'm afraid of getting a cotton camera. And we've got to get a quick message about the fans
11:14
You've had so many loyal fans since day one, since 94 and you broke through in the UK
11:19
What's the message to the fans coming to the show, Shane? Thank you. Like, you know, and I think when we look across the audience
11:25
and have done for those many years, we know a lot of faces
11:28
We know a lot of, you know, they really have been foundational for us
11:34
And they've always supported us, and as individuals as well, outside of the world of Boyzone
11:40
So, you know, we're privileged to be able to do this for you. We're back for yous
11:46
You know what I mean? This is the celebration for the guys, you know, the fans
11:50
It is Saturday, June the 6th, Emirates Stadium. Ronan, could it be more than one show
11:54
It's Saturday, June the 6th at Emirates Stadium, Kevin. That's the message
11:58
It is so good to see you boys today. Thank you, buddy. Great to see you too. Can't wait to see that show
12:02
Kevin, thank you. Thank you for the love you've always given us. Thank you very much for the support. Appreciate it
12:06
Thank you. Still playing the records, still loving the records. Boys, thank you so much. Thank you, Kevin. Thank you, Kevin
