The Chibi News Daily Reflection
0:04
Hi, I'm Chris Tufnell, the vicar of Utterbridge Parish Church. When I was a kid, one of the birthday party games my mum organised was called the spiderweb game
0:18
For every child at the party, she would get a long bit of string, tie a prize to one end
0:23
and then hide it somewhere in the lounge, like under a sofa cushion or wedged in a bookshelf
0:29
and then she had wind and weaved the string all around the room
0:32
before sellotaping the other end of the string to the doorframe. She would do this over and over until the whole lounge was a spider web of crisscrossing strings
0:42
and each child had to untape a string from the doorframe and follow it all over the lounge to find their prize at the other end
0:52
Now it would have been a mean trick if she didn't put a prize at the end of one of those strings
0:58
but she's lovely so it's a trick she never played. As a Christian, I believe those strings are like our longings
1:08
our deepest human desires. They've been put there by someone to lead us to something good
1:16
They're not a trick or a fraud. They've been coded into us by the one who made us
1:22
in order to lead us to a person, Jesus Christ, and the life we were made for hidden in him
1:32
I've come to believe that he's the prize at the end of the string
1:37
and that in finding him, I've discovered the one for whom I have all my life been secretly longing
