Hello Eve
0:01
Hello, how are you? Listen, really well, great to see you. Where do you keep the gold medal
0:06
Does it come out all the time? Will you take it with you to Cortina? Do you know what
0:11
A lot of people ask me that. No, it's kind of in a way in a cupboard just now
0:15
It was a lot obviously in the back of the games and a lot of different appearances, but yeah, it's at the back of a cupboard
0:21
I actually feel quite sorry for my bronze medal because as soon as I got the gold
0:25
the bronze kind of had to kick a back seat. Well, I can imagine
0:28
But when it comes to going out to the Winter Olympics this year, does it feel or will it feel strange, the fact that you're not competing
0:37
But I'm guessing you're going to be a lot busier than you would have been four years ago
0:42
It's a strange feeling, I'll be honest. I can't say I've ever enjoyed Christmas just prior to an Olympic Games
0:48
And I actually don't think this will be much different. It's a different kind of pressure, but it is strange, I'll be honest
0:55
It's strange not going as an athlete, but do you know what? We've got such an opportunity and I'm very, very privileged
1:01
to be part of that team that's going to help deliver, hopefully, those athletes' dreams when it comes to Milano, Cortina
1:09
And, yeah, it's my job to put that kind of athlete face on it. I got the experience I know what the athletes want and need So I going to help deliver that platform for them when it comes to the Games Now we say that the phrase is the shift of mission which still everybody stiggers out and thinks well what on earth does that mean
1:25
The reason is, isn't it, it's because French is the official language of the Olympic Games
1:31
So it means that you're above captain, it's like team manager, aren't you
1:36
Yeah, as such. I kind of lead, manage and support the full delegation
1:40
So, yeah, it's a lot of kind of weight on my shoulders
1:44
But what I do have, I've got an incredible team around me. And now that I am on the other side of being an athlete, it's made me realise what really went on to make our job easy
1:54
In theory, we just turned up, I guess, in a way I feel slightly selfish from when I was an athlete, because we did
2:01
We turned up and just expected everything to be perfect there for you. But I guess now it's my job to make sure that is there for the athlete
2:10
So, no, I'm very privileged to be in this role. And whenever you get to wear that Team GB kit
2:16
and see all the athletes competing, it's a really special moment. Well, I mean, we can't think of anybody better to do it
2:22
So, listen, congrats on that. And it's really exciting. But how do you keep it going
2:26
Because I guess of every event that's going on, I was looking there and thinking well it would be great to go out to Cortina and maybe I go and see this and go and see this Things are a long way apart aren they You got Milan you got Cortina the ski jumping is a long way away So have you got your plan now
2:43
of where you're going to be at what time? Yeah, so it's going to be the most widespread
2:48
Olympic Games in history. So it's set across 22,500 square kilometres of northern Italy
2:56
And usually you have two villages, coastal and up in the mountains for the skiing, sliding, etc
3:04
But this game, there's actually six Olympic villages and there's going to be three main accommodation clusters
3:12
You've got your own flat in each one, I imagine. There's one for you in every one, right
3:16
Yeah. So we're going to be competing in all six. But as I say, there's three main ones
3:21
That's Milan, Cortina and Livigno. So there'll be a lot of travelling from myself
3:26
But what we do have is an incredible team. and we've set it up in a cluster type setup
3:32
So each cluster has got head of clusters and the kind of sufficient staff within them
3:38
And yeah, I'll be dotting around a lot of time in a car, but I'm really, really excited
3:43
and I'm going to make sure I see all the sports, see all the athletes. Because as we know, like Team GB
3:48
we got this great kind of ethos and that what we known for is having this one Team GB environment And we be making sure we manage to stick to that even though we so widespread I can wait I mentioned everything I said going back to Robin Cousins and John Curry and Innsbruck and everywhere
4:06
It's always a very exciting time. I know we haven't really won anything on the snow
4:09
There's a chance of that. But with your gold medal as well. finally, I mean, very briefly, I know you can't have a favourite, but what do we think we should
4:18
be looking more carefully at than anything else? Well, do you know what? We've got such great
4:24
potential within this team. We're a young team. And of course, we're more competitive than ever
4:30
across winter sports. And what do fans love? They love a bit of style, speed, creativity
4:37
And that's what the Winter Olympics brings. It comes down to millimetres. It comes down to
4:41
milliseconds. So of course we've had such a fantastic winter season passed. We've got nine
4:47
World Championship medals which is incredible. We've kicked off this winter season with some fantastic results
4:54
We've had World Cup wins, European medals, Grand Slam medals. So we're tracking to be
4:59
very, very good. Of course we don't want to put pressure on the athletes and
5:03
when we get out there on the ground as I say my job is to make sure
5:07
that those athletes have everything that they want and need when it comes to competing
5:11
Good stuff, Eve. It's great to see you
