is accusing the Met Police of arresting him
0:03
for wearing a Star of David necklace at a pro-Palestine protest. The man claims he was arrested because his necklace antagonised protesters
0:12
The Met Police deny the allegations, adding that he was arrested for breaching a public order act
0:18
This all comes, of course, as the Jewish community expresses concerns over the rise of, rightly expresses concern
0:25
because it's hugely risen up, over anti-Semitism across the UK. Now, I'm sitting here, as many have noticed
0:33
I'm sitting wearing my cross, OK? I feel perfectly safe walking anywhere in the country
0:36
wearing my cross. But it's different if you're wearing a Star of David, isn't it
0:40
GB News presenter Josh Howey joins me now. Josh, we've obviously got to be careful talking about this story
0:46
because it is a live case, even though no-one has been charged with anything yet
0:51
What did you make of this story, first of all? I just thought it was unbelievable, whether you're Jewish or not
0:56
This idea as you say it an ongoing case but the idea that wearing any religious symbol is a provocation or could be any kind of factor in a legal case and in some kind of arrest is insane As you say I wear my Star of David I been particularly since October 7th
1:15
I've been wearing it out and proud. And the idea that I could be arrested for doing so
1:23
because someone might be offended that I'm a Jew... Why is it always that when Jews are the victims
1:31
they are blamed for it. You know what I mean? It's like going back to the Maccabi game
1:37
It's like the Jews are actually the potential victims in that because we can't guarantee their safety
1:43
But you're blamed for it as well. Well, blamed by anti-Semites. That's the key
1:48
So you just see a huge campaign out there trying to sort of argue that the Maccabi
1:52
is some sort of insane, thuggish team. I'm sure it has thuggish elements like all football teams do
1:58
But the fact is that that recommendation came through because it was to protect the Maccabee fans
2:04
And actually what happened in Amsterdam was a pre Jew hunt This is going back to 2023 when they playing high And again it was the same thing that people say oh no it was because they chanted some chants in Hebrew that no one would have understood anyway I not condoning that I don agree with that
2:19
But the point is the fact that the idea that that led to any violence is ridiculous
2:24
It was proven that this group of 100 men had gathered online
2:29
and then in life to find Jews to beat up. So, of course, that's what they're always going to do is go and target Jews
2:38
and then, as you say, blame them for it or to make excuses. And certainly the ironic thing is, of course
2:43
that you're going to see the anti-racists, they're the ones who are sort of somehow justifying it
2:49
You see people like Owen Jones saying, oh, you know, I can't believe we're going to have to pay taxpayers money
2:54
to protect these football fans. Except what do we see? What have we seen
2:59
We've seen tens of millions of pounds paying for the pro-Palestinian marches
3:05
The hypocrisy there is off the scale, as it has always been
3:10
This incident happened at one of the marches in the summer this year. How safe do you feel wearing a Star of David walking around the streets of London today You just have to be aware It sad that that the case and it just means I have to be hyper
3:27
I wear it very prominently for a reason when I'm out and about. Not to provoke
3:33
but to, you know... Because it's your faith. Because it's my faith and I'm proud of being a Jew
3:37
but also that I feel that I should be able to live in this country
3:41
I'm a British Jew and I should be able to live here safely with a symbol of my ethnicity
3:48
And there have been a few incidents over the last couple of years
3:54
And, you know, some people shouting at me on the tube and various incidents like that
3:59
Even last week, two guys were just absolutely staring me down in a cafe
4:04
And I guarantee they would have come over if I hadn't happened to be next to a massive
4:09
guy myself. Absolutely frightening. Josh, your own show coming up tonight, 7 o'clock
4:14
