The Chibi News Daily Reflection
0:04
Hi, I'm Mark and I'm the Vicar of Grofell and Salters Guild in Middlesbrough
0:11
Probably everyone knows that one person who you can tell the same thing to again and again and again
0:17
And though they hear it, they never seem to take it in. And then when they actually need what you've told them, they look at you blankly
0:24
It's a real test of patience. I sometimes wonder if Jesus' followers were those kind of people
0:30
All through Luke's gospel, Luke's telling of the story of Jesus' life
0:34
Jesus has told his disciples that he's going to have to die and then be raised up again on the third day
0:39
So perhaps it shouldn't have been such a surprise to them that a few days after Jesus' death on the cross
0:44
they're told that Jesus has been seen alive again. Yet they don't believe
0:49
Later that day, Jesus himself appears to them. They're shocked and confused, so Jesus explains to them that he's not a ghost
0:55
Their terror turns to joy, but even then the Bible says they still did not believe it
0:59
they'd forgotten what Jesus had taught them. I would have run out of patience at this point
1:04
probably shrugged my shoulders and muttered something about wasting my entire time on them
1:09
But Jesus is not like me. Instead he patiently opens up the Bible to explain to them why this happened as it did
1:16
If I'm honest with myself I'm like disciples forgetting the good news I've been told a thousand times over
1:21
and needing things patiently explained to me again and again. And as I see how patient Jesus is with me
1:28
it helps me be that much more patient with others as well
