The Chibi News Daily Reflection

Hi, I'm Mark and I'm a vicar in the Church of England in Middlesbrough
0:10
When it comes to picking players for sports teams in school, I was always fairly low down that list
0:15
Actually, I was pretty much guaranteed last. But to be honest, that was a reasonable decision
0:20
You want to pick people who are going to strengthen your team. Supposedly, that's what good managers do
0:25
They identify where the team is weak, and they find someone who's got the talent, skill, and experience to fill that gap
0:32
Except, that's not what Jesus does when it comes to choosing his disciples
0:37
the people who are going to lead and found his church. Those great early saints of the church
0:42
Philip, James, John, Peter, Matthew, Thomas, those guys, they don't come with a long list of talents and skills
0:48
There isn't much they bring to the table. In fact, they are a pretty dysfunctional bunch
0:54
But Jesus calls them to follow him, and when they respond and come to know him, he makes them into the people they need to be
1:00
Now, I found that quite reassuring, because if I'm honest with myself, I don't bring much to the table
1:06
But I believe that despite that, in fact, because of that, Jesus will use me
1:11
use me in ways I couldn't imagine, far beyond what my capabilities are. That's a good promise that I can hold to
