The Chibi News Daily Reflection
0:04
Hi, I'm Jordan and I'm a vicar in the Church of England
0:11
This week we have been taking the time to journey through Jesus' parable of the prodigal son
0:18
We can all think of a TV plotline where someone excludes themselves from their community
0:23
because of resentment and offence. and it's the same in our story
0:30
The prodigal son has returned after squandering his father's inheritance. His father has restored him and thrown a party and invited everyone
0:39
but now the older brother is offended by his father's lavishness towards his younger son
0:46
The father comes out to plead with his older son who refuses to come in
0:51
in his offense the older brother leaves himself on the outside while everyone else is inside
0:59
celebrating sounds a bit like the old saying cutting one's nose off to spite one's face
1:05
the father pleading with his son says but we had to celebrate and be glad because this brother of
1:12
yours was dead and he's alive again he was lost and is found and Jesus ends the parable there
1:21
We don't know if the older brother does come in. But perhaps sometimes it is better to win the person than win the argument
1:31
And it is better to let the guard down and sue for peace and reconciliation than be alone on the outside, bitter and angry and right in our own eyes
