I'm Gary Bembridge. This is another of my cruising tips for travellers. I want to talk about five
0:04
need-to-knows and actually five unanswered questions from Norwegian Cruise Line's brand new health and safety protocols
0:11
for dealing with the whole coronavirus situation. Starting with this one, you're going to be going through
0:18
if you do cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line a whole series of temperature checks, possibly multiple times a day
0:24
So what they're saying is when you board you have the screening process and you'll go through a touchless
0:29
temperature check. However, you'll also go through it multiple times on board. So for example
0:34
they're saying that you will get it on returning to the ship from a port of call, prior to all meals
0:40
in all the dining venues, prior to all activities in public venues, and also before you
0:46
disembark. So that's quite a few times you're going to have your temperature taken. It'll be touchless
0:51
and is not yet entirely clear whether it's going to be with those handle devices or whether
0:55
it's going to be through one of those heat sensor machines that are being introduced around
1:00
blaze like airports and so on The next area is around social distancing It very clear in these guidelines that Norwegian cruise line will have social distancing built into the way they operate This is going to happen in two ways First of all they are going to reduce capacity of cruise ships as they start
1:16
selling in. They made this very clear. They will not travel full. They will have less passengers
1:21
They haven't put a percentage on it. We've seen other cruise lines talking about as low as 60%
1:26
Another key thing that they will be doing is staggering embarkation, so people will be given a very
1:30
specific time to embark the ship so they can manage social distancing in the whole check-in
1:35
process. The second thing that they've said they're going to do is they are actually going to
1:39
manage the number of people attending venues at any one time or attending events. So what they're
1:44
saying is that the normal events program will happen. It may happen in a slightly different way
1:48
slightly different times, but they will actually control the numbers in any venue. How will they
1:53
manage the number of people? The detail of that we don't yet know, other than we know
1:56
that if you go on a Norwegian cruise line ship, you'll have less passengers than normal
2:01
and there will be controls around the number of people who can go to any one venue or any one
2:05
event at any particular time What the new guidelines say is the ships won visit any port that not deemed to be safe Also they make it very clear that this means that ports and itineries will change So if you booked a cruise it possible or perhaps even likely that the itinerian ports will change
2:23
And of course, under the cruise contract, the Norwegian Cruise Line can change ports how long you call
2:28
and the order that you call in them. So you are like to see ports changing because it depends on how many ports are prepared to accept the ships
2:35
and how many ports, of course, that Norwegian Cruise Line feel safe to let passengers venture out onto
2:40
They also talk a lot about how they're working with all the different providers to make sure that all of the protocols, safety, hand washing, jails, social distancing is built into their tour
2:49
programs as well. So of course that raises a very important point. If you are booking a cruise on
2:54
Norwegian cruise lines, in fact, probably any cruise line moving forwards, it is likely that the it
2:59
attinery will have to be adjusted based on what ports are deemed is safe. So bear in mind, when
3:03
you're booking a cruise, you need to be flexible about the very specific ports you're going to
3:07
because as cruising rolls out, you may find they have to adjust the attinery. The next one is
3:12
one that I think many passengers will be very very pleased about and this is all to do with the ventilation and air conditioning system I seen lots of questions on other videos have done about what a cruise line doing to improve the quality of air on board What Norwegian cruise lines say they doing is they changing all of the filters
3:27
in their air conditioning system. They're changing them to what is known as medical grade air filters H-13 HEPA
3:35
And this they claim removes 99.95 percent of airborne pathogens. So they're saying that they will improve the ventilation on board the ship
3:43
and that's something that worried a lot of people around boarding cruises again. Of course, within the various guidelines, there's lots to do with sanitation, cleaning, screening of crew
3:53
and all those kind of things that you would expect. It's really important to understand. They get very clear that these are things that they're introducing based on initial discussions
4:01
with things like the CDC, the Centre for Disease Control. There will be more to come, and they make it very clear that the final protocols
4:08
have not yet been agreed between the CDC and the cruise lines
4:11
and that will mean more things are to come. So as I discuss these, bear in mind there are more things still to come
4:17
I have loads more videos giving you up-to-date advice and tips and news about what's happening
4:23
in the whole world of cruising, so why don't you watch another one of those right now
