I'm Gary beverage this is another of my
0:02
cruising tips for travelers I want to
0:04
talk about six of the latest most
0:07
revealing and huge updates in the world
0:10
of cruising that I think are going to
0:12
impact you enormous Lee
0:13
starting with this one for me one of the
0:17
most revealing updates is something that
0:19
all of the heads of the big cruise
0:22
corporations have said and that is that
0:24
they will not start cruising until they
0:26
get it right and not necessarily on the
0:29
dates that are published which are
0:30
largely August the first at the time of
0:32
recording every single CEO has come out
0:35
in the last week or two and made that
0:38
very clear and that makes sense because
0:39
it doesn't make any sense for them to
0:42
start cruising until they are 100% sure
0:45
that there is no outbreak or the
0:47
incident on board because that would
0:49
then absolutely hammer cruising
0:51
completely so for example Richard Fane
0:54
the head of the Royal Caribbean group he
0:58
said we're not saying we are confident
1:01
we are starting on August the 1st we
1:03
won't come back until we are absolutely
1:05
sure we have done everything we can do
1:07
to protect the safety of our guests and
1:10
crew Frank Del Rio who runs the
1:13
Norwegian Cruise Line group says Oceania
1:15
region 7c and of course Norwegian he
1:18
said recently we want to do this right
1:21
and again he stressed that doing it
1:22
right was more important than the dates
1:24
they're being advertised even Arnold
1:25
Donald from the carnival group who had
1:28
very publicized dates of August the
1:30
first start cruising there or stressing
1:31
that date is not set in stone doing it
1:34
right is what are the implications of
1:36
this for you as a cruise it's really
1:38
important if you are booking cruises
1:39
particularly in 2020 based on the
1:42
cruises that are advertised do not
1:43
assume that they are set in stone until
1:46
the cruise lines are confident they've
1:47
got it right they're not going to sell
1:49
of course really importantly about
1:50
getting it right for the cruise lines
1:52
it's they have to have sign-off between
1:54
the Center for Disease Control the CDC
1:56
in the US and themselves and so if you
1:59
are booking cruises bear in mind they
2:00
may be cancelled you may be handing over
2:02
money which we your eventual have to
2:04
claim back in refunds or future cruise
2:06
credit if you are unsure why do you just
2:09
wait until the cruise lines are up and
2:10
running before you book
2:13
the second really significant and
2:15
important update is all of those cruise
2:19
leaders have also stressed that it's not
2:21
going to be one big bang of cruising
2:23
it's going to be in a phased and
2:25
restricted way they're going to bring up
2:27
a number of ships see how it goes adjust
2:30
and then start to bring their fleets
2:32
back into service also important because
2:33
a lot of the ships now have been put in
2:35
cold lay up where they basically down to
2:38
a really basic operating level and it's
2:41
going to take quite a lot of time and
2:42
money to get those back up and running -
2:44
in getting crew back if you look at
2:46
Carnival they have only put eight of
2:48
their 27 ships on schedule for the
2:51
startup of cruising when they hope you
2:53
start cruising so it's going to be a
2:54
slow steady and measured way of starting
2:58
cruising so again when you're booking a
3:00
cruise make sure that you've understood
3:02
are one of those ships and there's
3:04
itineraries definitely going to be part
3:06
of the rollout when cruising start up
3:08
again a third another significant update
3:13
which does have massive implications is
3:15
it also looks very much like cruising is
3:18
going to be very regional and initially
3:20
targeted very much at the local travel
3:23
and that's for all sorts of reasons
3:24
first of all there's quite a few ports
3:26
that have said they're going to be
3:27
closed to cruise ships for a period of
3:29
time so for example Australia has
3:32
announced that they will allow no cruise
3:33
ships and to lease the middle of
3:35
September the Seychelles being a more
3:38
dramatic saying not until 2022 even the
3:41
ground came and in the Caribbean have
3:42
said it's unlikely that they're going to
3:44
open to cruising until quarter three or
3:46
maybe even quarter for Argentina which
3:49
is of course really important for some
3:50
of the South American cruises and once
3:51
the Antarctic season opens up they are
3:54
not allowing in any international
3:55
travelers until at least September some
3:58
of the EU countries still have in place
4:00
14-day quarantines if you fly in and
4:02
were the most recent ones for example
4:03
the UK is just introducing that in June
4:06
and we'll be evaluating that of course
4:08
some of the other countries like Italy
4:09
in Spain I'll talk about lifting that in
4:11
time for summer so there's lots of
4:13
restrictions on where people can cruise
4:14
- and how many international travellers
4:17
can actually come into a country so it's
4:19
very likely that cruises are going to
4:20
focus a lot on the drive to market so
4:23
for example in Florida people can
4:24
actually get two ports really easy and
4:27
to rely on flights as they start up
4:29
again rather cruise lines are also
4:30
talking they might start up in some
4:32
regions like China for example for
4:34
Chinese guests because they are much
4:35
further along in the curve of dealing
4:37
with the whole pandemic we've also seen
4:39
in Norway for example who to Girton are
4:41
reintroducing one of their coastal
4:43
voyages but just for Norwegian
4:46
passengers no international passengers
4:49
no foreign passengers we've seen in the
4:51
United States that two of the big river
4:54
cruising lines American Cruise Lines and
4:57
American Queen steamboat company they're
5:00
both going to be introducing during the
5:02
summer sailings within the rivers of the
5:05
US silver sea have been talking about
5:08
how they're trying to talk to the
5:09
Australian government about including
5:11
silver sea and some cruising within the
5:13
bubble they're talking about creating
5:14
between Australia New Zealand just for
5:16
Australia New Zealand passengers there's
5:19
also been a lot of talk amongst European
5:21
river cruises about them starting out
5:23
particularly focusing on residents who
5:27
within the Schengen area that means they
5:28
can move between European countries as
5:31
the borders start opening very easily
5:32
this could also be big for travelers in
5:34
the UK where there could be a chance of
5:37
focusing on around the UK cruises
5:40
because again you can board UK based
5:42
ships out of Southampton which basically
5:44
calling on all UK port so we've seen a
5:46
lot of evidence that the cruise lines
5:48
are like to focus on the regional ports
5:51
regional areas of strength using
5:53
passengers from that particular country
5:55
initially as they get things going so
5:57
that's really important if you're
5:58
looking at cruising want to get back to
5:59
cruising really quickly and speedily
6:02
focus on the cruises that are really
6:04
close at home to you and particularly
6:06
ones that perhaps don't require you
6:08
crossing borders to get to the cruise a
6:10
fourth update which has been floating
6:12
around by a number of the cruise lines
6:14
is we're likely to see an increase of
6:17
cruises to nowhere now this is easier in
6:20
some regions than it is in others so if
6:23
we take a look at Asia for example
6:24
Genting which is really a big player in
6:27
Asia they have cruise lines like dream
6:29
cruise line and star there she also by
6:32
the way own crystal as well but they're
6:34
talking about introducing cruises to
6:36
nowhere for their Asian customers who
6:38
like to go on short cruises anyway and
6:40
perhaps more drawn to the actual just
6:42
going out on the ship and let's concern
6:44
about the ports and it's going to be
6:45
much easier again just going from port
6:47
see days and back to a port we've also
6:51
seen a lot of the Cruise Lines that
6:53
operate in the Caribbean that have their
6:54
own private islands talking about this
6:56
could be a possibility of having cruises
6:59
to nowhere or cruises to their private
7:00
islands to comply with the law in the US
7:03
which does actually require all ships
7:06
that are not flagged within the US that
7:09
they have to call on a foreign port
7:11
before they can return to the US but
7:13
private islands are counted as foreign
7:15
ports because they're normally part of
7:16
places like the Bahamas for example so
7:19
for example the CEO of the Royal
7:20
Caribbean line mr. Bailey has said that
7:24
he sees for example perfect day at CoCo
7:27
Key as potentially being a key part of
7:29
the way that they can get cruising up so
7:31
it's kind of a cross between cruises to
7:33
nowhere or cruises to private islands so
7:36
again if you're looking at getting back
7:37
into cruising really quickly one of the
7:39
big implications of that a focus on kind
7:41
of cruises to nowhere or again cruises
7:43
which use things like private islands
7:45
for me another revealing update was
7:47
something that's been mentioned by a
7:48
couple of the CEOs and that's about the
7:51
fact that new ships rather than older
7:53
ships are likely to come back quicker
7:55
and that's very interesting because we
7:57
saw again using the example of Royal
7:59
Caribbean where Richard fain speak new
8:04
ships are actually much more efficient
8:06
and leverage costs in a way so for
8:08
example they can actually break even
8:10
with even around about 30 percent
8:11
occupancy whereas if they want to go
8:13
with the older ships they're probably
8:14
going to need over 50 percent occupancy
8:16
so again if you're looking at booking at
8:18
cruising you want to go as soon as
8:19
possible
8:20
focus perhaps on the newer ships in all
8:22
of these fleets another really
8:25
interesting update that has actually
8:27
gone under the radar a lot is the
8:30
reminder that a lot of the rules
8:31
particularly in the US with the CDC the
8:33
Center for Disease Control all of their
8:36
no sell orders and all of their
8:37
requirements they're working on with the
8:39
cruise lines are for ships over 250
8:43
passengers that's really significant cuz
8:45
there are quite a few Cruise Lines that
8:46
operate in the United States that are
8:49
under 250 passengers never actually just
8:51
form to this whole pandemic a specific
8:54
organization
8:55
which is called the u.s. small overnight
8:58
passenger boat operators coalition so a
9:01
bit of a long name but they have quite a
9:03
few cruise lines in there so for example
9:04
they have American cruise lines American
9:07
Queen steamboat company Blount small
9:10
ship adventures Lindblad expeditions
9:13
uncrewed adventures and these cruise
9:15
lines operate a whole mix of cruises
9:17
some which go into places like Alaska
9:19
and they have lobbied really hard to
9:22
actually get up and running really
9:23
really quickly what's really important
9:25
is what the Association is saying is
9:28
they have to make sure that comply much
9:29
more with the FDA regulations than the
9:32
Center for Disease Control obviously
9:33
they're working with them you really
9:35
want to get on a cruise really quickly
9:37
and your base in the US take a look at
9:39
some of those small cruise lines with
9:41
under 250 passengers because they are
9:43
likely to find ways of cruising even
9:45
faster than the big cruise lines there
9:48
is a constant flow of updates and news
9:51
about cruising these are six
9:53
developments that I think have massive
9:56
importance and implication for you as
9:58
cruisers hope you find that how far I
10:00
have loads more videos tips advice and
10:03
updates so why don't you watch another
10:05
one of those right now
