Whether it was the harrowing death of a beloved original trilogy icon
0:04
a sudden execution of a figure who hadn't exactly been a saint up to that point
0:09
or the disrespectful way a few cult-favorite faces were dispatched, the latest set of Skywalker saga movies certainly was not afraid to get a little bit messed up
0:19
when it came to killing off its characters, just like the trilogies that came before them
0:23
So after already looking at those prequel and original trilogy kills that were undeniably dark
0:29
surreal or deranged, it's time to remember the times when the sequel trilogy unleashed
0:34
some quite effed up ends too. So I'm Gareth, this is WhatCultureStarWars and here are the 10 most messed up deaths
0:41
in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Number 10, General Hooks is Brutally Terminated
0:46
Getting the messed up ends of some of the more villainous personalities within the sequel
0:50
trilogy out of the way early, the murder of General Hooks during episode 9, The Rise of
0:55
Skywalker likely didn't lead to anyone shedding a tear. This was an often ruthless and irritating bloke who'd helped the First Order kill millions of people
1:04
We will get there. He was also someone who was willing to turn his back on his own people to take down his rival Kylo Ren
1:11
But despite all that, it must be said that the way he was ultimately dispatched was still undeniably brutal
1:17
Not long after helping Finn, Poe and Chewbacca escape by killing the First Order's own stormtroopers
1:23
and telling them that he was the spy who'd been feeding information to the resistance
1:27
The man who wanted Wren to lose above all else met up with Allegiant General Enric Pride
1:34
Here, Hooks attempts to fool Pride into thinking he was overpowered by the gang
1:38
but the latter saw through his wounded leg, given to him by Finn to make the lie seem more believable
1:43
In the blink of an eye, Pride coldly and savagely blasts a hole through the traitor
1:48
Even though Hooks definitely had it coming and wasn't exactly the nicest of human beings
1:52
Watching him be so viciously taken out before he even knew what hit him was still a pretty disturbing moment
1:58
9. Supreme Leader Snoke is shockingly halved Now again, this is definitely a case of a sequel villain very much earning the grisly demise they received
2:08
That didn't make it any less effed up to watch. Throughout episodes 7 and 8, the cruel Supreme Leader Snoke had been both leading the awful First Order and manipulating Kylo Ren in the shadows
2:20
In other words, he was the big bad of the trilogy so far. So it was certainly satisfying to watch him be surprisingly fooled and bested by his people towards the end of The Last Jedi
2:29
Seeing someone's body be split in two and roll across the room will never not be a distressing sight though
2:35
Believing that Ren was about to cure his true enemy, Rey, within his throne room, Snoke's senses betrayed him
2:42
Instead, Ren was actually planning on doing exactly that to his powerful master
2:46
Using the Force to turn the Skywalker family lightsaber and bisect the Strandcast where he sat
2:53
Snoke's stunned mug, his torso flopping to the ground like a sack of potatoes in the background
2:59
and the embers from his singed lower half flickering in the air all combine to create a death that is barbarous, shocking, and, well, pleasing all at once
3:10
What a messed up combination. Number 8 Nia Numb Lame Lightning Demise In the wake of Snoke being split in half in Episode 8 the position of Big Bad of the trilogy was now vacant Not for long though as Emperor Palpatine soon somehow returned
3:24
revealing that he'd actually been pulling the Snoke strings all this time
3:28
I know, who knew? Fast forward to the end of Episode 9, The Rise of Skywalker, and it was that all-powerful returning Sith Lord's tried-and-tested lightning
3:36
that sadly resulted in one of the most unceremonious deaths in the entire saga
3:41
After spending years fighting the good fight for the Rebel Alliance and Resistance
3:47
and even helping bring down the second Death Star, you'd think fan-favorite Nien Numb would have been given a somewhat moving or even epic end
3:56
Instead though, J.J. Abrams decided to simply have the pancake-faced legend just get caught in the middle of Palpatine's lightning storm and blown up inside of the Tantive 4-ship
4:05
That was it. His death didn't really add any emotional weight to the underwhelming climactic battle of Exegol either
4:12
as it happened too quickly for anyone to really register what had actually gone down. It's just a throwaway, shocking in more than one way
4:18
and quite disrespectful end for one of the original trilogy's most recognisable alien faces
4:24
He deserved better. Now who's your favourite alien in all of Star Wars? You let me know in the comments section down below and it better be the end number
4:31
Number 7, Poe disobeys a direct order, gets many killed, and the First Order still follow the Resistance
4:37
Before the great Nia Noom was taken away too soon on Exegol
4:41
a number of other brave Resistance fighters were also suddenly killed in action
4:45
during the opening stages of Episode 8, The Last Jedi. Now, these skilled pilots obviously knew the risks before they strapped into their cockpits
4:53
However, you could definitely argue that some of them may have lived to see the Resistance
4:57
ultimately conquer the First Order were it not for one man's stupidity
5:01
Poe Dameron is ordered to leave the First Order's Dreadnaught alone and join the rest of the Resistance after their successful evacuation of the planet Dakar
5:10
But did he listen? Not a chance. Instead, Dameron refused to let the chance to take out the fleet killer pass him by
5:16
ignoring General Leia Organa's aforementioned order and subsequently causing the deaths of many a pilot
5:22
Sure, they did destroy the Dreadnaught in the end and bought the Resistance enough time to get away
5:27
But that small win cost the good guys a ton of their fighters, bombers and loyal personnel
5:33
Making that dumb decision even more messed up, the Resistance were then soon found by the First Order thanks to their hyperspace tracking technology
5:41
Had Poe obeyed Leia's order, many of those ships may have still been picked off by the enemy
5:45
as they slowly chipped away at our heroes. But it's also likely that at least a few more Resistance members would have made it out of The Last Jedi alive
5:53
if one cocky X-Wing pilot actually listened to his boss. Nice one, Poe
5:58
Number 6, The Villagers Who Were Coldly Executed on Jakku One of the most despicable and horrific acts of the entire sequel trilogy actually occurred less than 10 minutes into it
6:08
During the intense Episode 7 The Force Awakens opening sequence involving Poe Dameron trying to keep the map to Luke Skywalker out of the First Order's hands
6:17
the latter were introduced as a truly merciless foe. After launching an attack on a small village on Jakku one that eventually resulted in Law San Tekka being murdered by Kylo Ren the First Order Stormtroopers were ordered to do something quite appalling Once he captured Poe Ren commanded his metal ally Captain Phasma to get the troopers to coldly execute each and every one of the remaining villagers who dared to oppose his forces
6:45
It is some seriously harrowing stuff. Killing those who are firing their own blasters at you is one thing
6:50
but watching a group of defenseless, unarmed prisoners all be gunned down once Ren had already gotten his hands on Poe
6:56
immediately showed the viewer that the First Order were not to be messed with. Horrifying acts of violence early on and nothing new in a Star Wars trilogy
7:04
but this was still a particularly vicious way to kick off the latest collection of family-friendly adventures
7:10

7:21
Number 5, Jill Ackbar is blown out of a ship and barely mentioned again
7:25
Another fan-favorite original trilogy alien who was given a quite underwhelming and rather disrespectful demise
7:32
the sequel trilogy did the legendary G.L. Ackbar dirty too, without doubt one of the most respected military figures in the galaxy
7:40
This Mon Calamari Admiral ultimately racked up a whopping 60 years of service
7:44
before his time in the Star Wars universe reached its end, rather than ultimately sacrificing himself to save his fellow Resistance fighters
7:51
and then being respectfully mourned as one of the good guys' bravest and most important leaders, though
7:57
Akbar's death was a bit of a disappointment. When First Order TIE fighters fired on the raddest cruiser during Episode 8, The Last Jedi
8:04
Akbar was one of the people sucked out into space along with General Leia Organa
8:09
Unlike Leia, though, the It's-A-Trap icon wasn't able to save himself via the Force
8:13
If watching him be abruptly shot out into space wasn't already painful enough for long-time fans of the rebel leader
8:19
who helped bring down the second Death Star, Ackbar's death is then barely even acknowledged
8:24
It's mentioned in a throwaway line, sure, but the much-loved character is pretty much forgotten about after that
8:29
What a terrible way to treat a legend of the galaxy, eh? No one was expecting Ackbar to die in the middle of a dramatic showdown with Snoke or anything
8:36
but he surely deserved a more memorable end than just being blown out of a window in the background
8:41
Number 4. Ochi kills Rey's parents The Sith dagger was an incredibly silly addition to the Skywalker saga
8:48
Them's just the facts. Away from it somehow being used to find the exact part of the Death Star that Rey needed to get to, though
8:55
this weapon did actually find itself in the middle of one of the most tragic moments of the trilogy
8:59
Before the gang got their hands on it, this weapon had been used by a bounty hunter known as Ochi of Bastoon
9:05
It's eventually revealed in Episode 9, The Rise of Skywalker, that Ochi actually took that very same tool that boasted a Death Star-locating tape measure
9:13
and altered Rey's life forever with it. You see, Ochi had been ordered by the returning Darth Sidious to bring his granddaughter to him
9:21
But after Rey's parents refused to tell him where she was, he responded by brutally plunging the Sith dagger into both of them
9:27
After learning of this devastating truth, a no-doubt traumatized Rey then continues walking around holding and using the exact same weapon that robbed her of her own parents
9:38
That is pretty messed up whatever way you slice it. That was an accidental dagger joke and I am so ashamed
9:42
Number 3. All the people in the Hosnian system. The original trilogy wiping out of Alderaan was an utterly horrifying moment with millions of innocent people having their lives suddenly taken thanks to the Death Star planet laser The sequel trilogy
9:58
saw that startling world destruction and decided to multiply it by five. Unleashing the power of
10:03
their own terrifying superweapon, the First Order's General Hooks commanded Starkiller Base's laser to
10:09
be fired at all of the worlds within the Hosnian system. With the rest of the galaxy unable to
10:14
protect these worlds, including the capital of the New Republic that was Hosnian Prime
10:18
beautiful but deadly red beams of light shot through space before finally colliding with
10:24
these planets. Billions of lives were lost and the New Republic was shattered by just
10:29
one use of the phantom energy beam. Most brief moments showing panicking and defenseless
10:34
civilians on these worlds, fearing for their lives as the red light of death broke through
10:38
the clouds, was seriously distressing stuff. Even if it wasn't quite as heartbreaking or
10:43
messed up as watching Leia viewing the destruction of her homeworld in Episode 4 in New Hope
10:48
Still, with just one push of a button, the First Order scared the life out of the galaxy
10:54
as it watched this Hosnian cataclysm unfold. 2. Han Solo is Murdered by His Baby Boy
11:00
After fighting for years to try and add a little emotional weight to a Star Wars story with his
11:06
demise, Harrison Ford finally got his Han Solo wish in Episode 7 of Force Awakens in a rather
11:12
atrocious way. Finally coming face to mask and then face with his baby boy within Starkiller base
11:18
the two Solo men talked about how Snoke was using Ben and would crush him once he got what he wanted
11:24
Right when it appeared that there may have still been some good in the Solo sun though
11:28
Kylo Ren suddenly ignited his flickering lightsaber and impaled his stunned father
11:33
in front of not only his new pals Finn and Rey, but his hairy bestie Chewbacca
11:38
That roar from the broken Wookiee will forever haunt Star Wars fans' minds
11:44
The last thing the iconic smuggler ever saw was his own kid staring a hole through his head after monstrously sticking a lightsaber in him
11:52
It doesn't get much more effed up than that. Sure, he'd eventually return as a Vision a few films later and help bring his son back over to the light side
11:59
But these were still some rather horrible final moments amongst the living for everyone's favourite rebel dad
12:05
1. All Luke's Students That Died In The Destruction Of His Temple
12:10
Everything about this awful event is all kinds of messed up. For starters, the incident that led to Luke Skywalker's Jedi Temple going up in flames
12:18
as seen in The Last Jedi, was little more than an awkward and regrettable misunderstanding
12:23
Seeing into the mind of his young student, Ben Solo, Luke Skywalker saw the growing darkness
12:29
within him and instinctively ignited his lightsaber as the thought of killing him crossed his mind
12:34
Said horrible idea soon passed, but the damage was already done, as Ben woke up to see his trusted master stood over him with a weapon
12:42
Confused, angered, and hurt by Luke's betrayal, Ren would then head out and ultimately kill many of Skywalker's other students with a lightning storm aimed at the temple, according to Charles Sewell's The Rise of Kylo Ren comic
12:54
Though he apparently didn't mean to kill his fellow students, it was already too late
12:59
With a number of budding Force users losing their lives in their sleep
13:03
all thanks to Luke and Ben's moments of devastating confusion. This is why you should always think before you act, folks
