Rafale F5, its UCAV drone, and the Rafale Marine—French DGA Feature Translated

Jun 25, 2025
1. Rafale F5: A New Era for the French Fighter Jet Dassault Aviation unveiled the Rafale F5 (two-seat “B” version), equipped with conformal fuel tanks (CFTs) and an ESJ electronic warfare pod, enhancing range, stealth, and SEAD/DEAD (Suppression/Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses) capabilities. The F5 standard targets the 2030–2040 timeframe, introducing open tactical data links for better interoperability with aircraft like the F-35 and integrating onboard AI systems. 2. Stealth UCAS/UCAV: The Loyal Wingman A mock-up of a new flying-wing combat drone, based on the Neuron demonstrator, was showcased alongside the Rafale F5. This stealth UCAV is designed for SEAD/DEAD missions. With a takeoff weight close to that of the Mirage 2000 (~17.5 tons), it’s powered by a single Safran M88 engine (same as Rafale), carries weapons in internal bays to maintain stealth, and shares real-time intel with the Rafale via a dedicated link. The concept: one Rafale F5 can control a UCAV, with the option to command multiple drones simultaneously in the future. 3. Rafale F5 – UCAV – Rafale Marine Interconnectivity The UCAV is also designed for carrier operations, similar to the Rafale Marine, indicating launch and recovery capability from aircraft carriers. It will support aerial refueling, using probe-and-drogue systems compatible with A330 MRTT tankers. Together, the Rafale F5, its loyal wingman UCAV, and the carrier-based Rafale Marine create a cohesive aerial combat ecosystem for contested airspace. 4. Strategic Roadmap & Industrialization The UCAV is planned for a first flight around 2030, with entry into service targeted around 2033. The goal is to maintain France’s edge in air superiority and suppression missions, bridging the gap until the Next Generation Fighter (NGF) of the FCAS program arrives (~2040). The project builds on decades of European demonstrator experience, especially with the Neuron, which has flown over 170 missions since 2012. The 2025 Paris Air Show marked a concrete step in France’s strategy of deploying a "fighter + loyal wingman drone + carrier-based flexibility" model. This powerful combo — combining tactical autonomy, stealth, interoperability, and naval operation — signals the evolution of France’s next-gen air combat dominance. #RafaleF5 #UCAV #RafaleMarine #ParisAirShow2025 #DassaultAviation #DroneDeCombat #LoyalWingman #DefenseFrançaise #ArméeDeLAir #StealthTechnology #FCAS #NeuronDrone #SupérioritéAérienne #AviationMilitaire #Bourget2025 #AirCombatEvolution #FutureCombatAirSystem #M88Engine #SEAD #FrenchAirForce Be a Member for exclusive privileges - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCviEFTf1xIPKsjmyF_zvFug/join Twitter : https://x.com/AltitudeAddicts Website: https://www.altitudeaddicts.com
