The company turning trash into useable products

There's a New Jersey business that's literally turning trash into treasure

It's happening in New Jersey's capital city, which is appropriate since it's home to the slogan

Trenton makes the world takes. Fox's Stephanie Brutini shows us what this company is making

Inside private recycling company Terracycle headquartered in Trenton, New Jersey. These are made from vintage U.S. Postal Service bags

There's a section dedicated to turning garbage into something new. The inspiration for our designs really comes from the garbage itself

Like, we kind of look at the material and see what is still interesting about it and how we can upcycle it into something new

Senior Vice President of Design Tiffany Threadgold says her team's visions can be wrapped around a special piece or installation or even a concept

The recycling company, which operates in several countries, creates for companies like Walmart and Subaru

And then Verizon. We partnered with them to create tote bags. This is an example of one of the tote bags that we made for them So this is made from old billboards and banners So they had pop banners that they wanted to turn into employee giveaways Beyond the creativity and the design department

there's a science to all this. So here's an example of what TerraCycle does. Take the packaging and

wrappers from candies or cookies or your kids' juice boxes. They can be turned into plastic

pellets and then turn into a dog bowl or the structure required for a lunchbox or even

a toilet seat. We do a lot of material processing and turn it back into a recycled pellet that then

gets turned into lumber or injection molded products. The office area is decorated in a

fashion true to the company model. We don't work with things that you can recycle in your

municipal recycling. We work with all the other things like cigarette butts, potato chip bags

The company partners with businesses or institutions to collect things that would end up in landfills

all of it to achieve goals, solutions and ideas with an environmentally friendly focus
