And the rainy week rolling on. We're tracking showers and storms for a third day in a row

Good rainy afternoon, everyone. I'm Antoine Lewis. Welcome to the News Block. Let's take a look outside where, I'm sorry, dreary is the only way to describe it

Temps not so bad, but it's been a couple of tough days. Liv Johnson, what do you have for us? And hello

Hello. I know it doesn't it does not look good out there

And unfortunately, that's what the rest of your day is going to look like. But we do see better things ahead for the next couple of days

Wednesday throws air a lot better. Looking on our satellite radar right now, we've just kind of had this drizzly mist for New York

But we have a bit more action out of Long Island and then up in Connecticut and parts of the Hudson Valley

Most of today's action is east and west of the city. So we do have a flood watch and warning in some parts of Connecticut

The flood warning, which is a little bit more serious. That's for Fairfield County. It's actually until the 8th, so a couple days under that flood warning

Then we have a flood watch for the northern half of Connecticut and also parts of New York like Ulster, Sullivan and Dutchess County

So just be aware of that, especially as we go through tonight and get a little bit more rainfall

Like I said, east and west, that's really where we're looking at today for most of the action

We'll see a few scattered showers, some isolated thunderstorms that move through the area

But we actually get a few nice dry hours later this evening, especially if you're in New York City

A few scattered showers overnight. I think tomorrow morning your commute is going to look a lot like today where it's just foggy, some low-hanging clouds and maybe a bit of drizzle

But then we see those clouds break up Wednesday afternoon. We have a mostly dry day

And Thursday is also looking mostly dry as well before more rain on Friday

Antoine? All right, Liv. Thank you so much. Today, outrage continues to grow as we enter a second week of delays and cancellations at Newark Liberty International Airport

You're taking a live look at the airport right now where more than 100 flights were canceled

In the last 24 hours, nearly 200 are delayed. Federal transportation officials say that staffing shortages, along with outdated software, are the primary reasons for these delays and cancellations

The Air Traffic Controllers Union says that on last Monday, controllers temporarily lost radar and communications with aircraft under their control

and this blackout lasted between 60 to 90 seconds. This morning, New Jersey Congressman Josh Gottheimer weighing in on the chaos

Modernizing the system, as we know, can take up to years to get done

So this problem on the technology will not go away overnight, but we must immediately, immediately surge our investment

and fix the technology issues at Newark Airport and our airports around the country

The Air Traffic Controllers Union goes on to say that stress from last week's blackout

caused several air traffic controllers to take federally authorized trauma leave of up to 45 days

Tomorrow is the deadline to have the real ID if you want to fly, but Homeland Security officials say travelers without the real ID will be allowed to fly for now but can expect some extra security steps The TSA says that it will no longer accept state identifications that are not Real ID compliant at its checkpoints All airline

passengers 18 and older, including TSA pre-check members, must present Real ID compliant identification

or another acceptable ID, such as a passport, at TSA checkpoints. Security officials are preparing

for tomorrow's rollout. We have a very robust plan set forth for tomorrow. It includes some

forward-deployed technology closer to our travel document tracker positions so that we can

facilitate any additional screening processes. We have a robust and enhanced staffing plan

which includes more officers on the floor, and most of those officers will be dedicated to any

of the enhanced screening that needs to be done associated with Real ID. Travelers without the

Real ID will be subjected to enhanced screening processes. Day two of jury selection in the sex

trafficking trial of Sean Diddy Combs. Another three dozen prospective jurors expected to be

questioned today. This morning, the court saw potential 15 jurors. Nine were struck for cause

meaning they were dismissed for a variety of reasons. Part of the defense's strategy is to

show the jury that a swinger's lifestyle is not criminal and that everything that allegedly took

place was consensual. The judge is hoping to take three days to seat a panel of 12 jurors

and six alternates, which is high hopes. Tomorrow would be the last day, meaning that opening

statements are still set for Monday. Tomorrow, the College of Deans officially begin the process

of picking the next pope. Final preparations for the conclave were made today inside the Sistine

Chapel, where the secret voting will take place. Soon, the cardinals will be cut off from the

outside world until they reach a decision. Sharon Crowley in the newsroom with details on this

election process. Yeah, Antoine, 133 cardinals will elect the next pope, and they are all now

in Rome. Today, they held their final general meeting, continuing the process of basically

getting to know each other before they enter the Sistine Chapel tomorrow to start the conclave

They've begun checking into the Santa Marta residence, where Vatican officials say they

hand over their cell phones as part of security measures in place. And after a mass on Wednesday

morning, the conclave begins their election process to elect Pope Francis's successor. Now

the cardinals must decide whether to select a pontiff who will continue in the direction of

Francis or choose a more traditional path for the church. Will be the church in the years to come

what will be the world years to come, and what kind of leader in the church, what kind of pope

they have to choose. Don't choose a pope based on continent, based on race, based on language

You choose a pope that is truly can be the successor. So one round of voting is expected

on Wednesday afternoon. The process then continues each morning and each afternoon

until a two thirds majority is reached. If they have not decided by Saturday night

Then the Cardinals take Sunday off and start again on Monday Vatican staff working for the conclave have also been sworn to secrecy and threatened with excommunication if they violate that oath

between the president and Canada's new prime minister, Mark Carney. Trump complimented

Carney for winning the recent election. And while Trump says that he's still interested in making

Canada the 51st state, he admitted in the Oval Office that it takes two to tango. With Carney

making it clear, however, that statehood is not on the table ever. As you know from real estate

there are some places that are never for sale. That's true. We're sitting in one right now

you know, Buckingham Palace that you visited as well. That's true. And having met with the owners

of Canada over the course of the campaign last several months, it's not for sale, won't be for

sale ever. The two leaders are sure to discuss the ongoing trade and tariff battle with our

northern borders. Mr. Trump also teasing a very, very big announcement later this week

Spectrum. Welcome back. This morning, street vendors rallying on the steps of City Hall

They gathered ahead of the city council hearing on the street vendor reform package

Vendors are demanding a new process that would make it easier to get a license to operate

Some say they've waited years to get properly certified. They also say reforms are needed because of a growing NYPD crackdown on vendors and the greater risk for vendors, many of whom are immigrants

Street vendors are a huge part of our identity as a cosmopolitan city

Through cuisine, they're able to spread culture, diversity. Two integral parts of what makes New York special and a coveted place to live and travel to

Now, the reform package would ensure that all vendors have a fair chance to be licensed

and speed up a promise made in 2021 to issue more than 4,000 new mobile vendor permits

The package also calls for the city's small business services division to assist with education and compliance

Governor Hochul touting New York's new school cell phone ban. Now, this will take effect next school year, beginning in the fall

The new ban will apply to all K through 12 public school student districts

Under the rules, smartphones and Internet-enabled devices can't be used on school grounds for the entire school day

Schools will come up with their own plans for storing student phones. Governor Hochul says that the ban is common sense and will provide distraction-free learning

Our kids are overwhelmed by the addiction the addictive algorithms and endless distractions 95 of teenagers have smartphones They receive 250 notifications a day on average They can possibly focus on anything else The new rules do give parents a way to

contact their kids during the school day if necessary. The state budget provides 13 million

dollars in funding for schools that need help purchasing and implementing phone storage plans

Columbia University announcing job cuts after losing federal research funding. The university reports substantial cuts were made to more than 300 multi-year awards for federally funded research

And that means about 180 employees who work in these areas funded by grant money will either have their positions not renewed or they'll be let go

The new job cuts impact 20 percent of the positions funded by those terminated grants

The school says that it did not make the decision lightly and remains committed to scientific research

All right, we want to get a final check on the forecast. We know it's dreary, but let's bring in Liv Johnson for more details

Hi there. Hi, Antoine. All right, temperature-wise, it's not too bad. I mean, it's a bit cooler than average for this time of year

but most of us in the tri-state looking at the low to mid-60s. It's 63 degrees in New York and Long Island, 65 up in Hartford

and actually pushing 70 up in Poughkeepsie. Windspades aren't too crazy. I'd say 5 to 15 miles per hour throughout the tri-state

We do have some wind gusts in the area. The Hudson Valley seeing some stronger wind gusts, 25 miles per hour

Trenton, same thing, 26 miles per hour. And we'll see stronger gusts when we have systems move through

So when you're getting possibly a scattered shower or storm, you might notice some stronger winds

Visibility has improved a lot. But tomorrow morning, I said this earlier, we're still going to have some fog

So be careful on the roads when you're commuting. Now, that area of low pressure is going to linger around for a few more days

But most of Wednesday will be dry. Most of Thursday will be dry

Thursday night going into Friday, though, we'll have some rain. Friday looks like an all-day rain event

Saturday, I still have some hope that we're going to have a pretty dry weekend, a semi-dry weekend

At least your Mother's Day is going to be nice and dry with a high of 73 and plenty of sunshine

So we have some good things on the way. Not too bad the next couple of days, temperatures in the 70s, some dry time

So look, if we make it through the end of the week, then at least with our moms, we'll have a sunny day for that
