Catholic schools in our area are celebrating the election of a new pope
0:03
All right, Fox 5's Jody Goldberg joins us live from St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington
0:08
Jody, I'm sure the kids there are plenty excited. I'm telling you guys, from Vatican City all the way here to South Huntington
0:15
students here at St. Anthony's witnessing history and their reaction. Give it a listen. It just says it all
0:23
USA! USA! USA! USA! And these students chanting USA like it was the Olympic Games
0:33
You couldn't even stage a reaction like this if you tried. And it was far more historic than any lesson from a textbook
0:40
Students standing shoulder to shoulder, eyes locked on the live stream as they anxiously waited for the new pope to be announced
0:47
The excitement electric as history was made, a full circle moment for many of them
0:53
I think it's so wonderful for our students because they, most of our students, think about it, even our seniors who are 17 only knew Pope Francis because they were like three or four years old when Pope Francis, who was glorious, came into our world as our new Holy Father
1:12
So now the second pope that they have now met is an American pope
1:17
Being a senior with only seven days left, the fact that we were able to experience all this with just the student body is amazing
1:26
And students in the coming days will continue learning about the new pope, all about his name, as we've been discussing, and the future of the Catholic Church
1:35
We're in South Huntington, Long Island. Jody Goldberg, let's send it back to you. All right, Jody, thank you
