Snowfall shut downs Paris and northern Europe

Heavy snow hit the Paris region as daylight broke, halting bus services as shops geared up for the first day of the New Year sales. More than 800 flights were cancelled at Amsterdam Schiphol airport and 140 were grounded at Paris hubs.
