Nigeria reopens some schools in the north despite kidnap threats

Jan 13, 2026
Schools across parts of northern Nigeria started reopening on January 12, after months of closure triggered by the abduction of hundreds of students in November 2025. The move follows a circular from the federal government in December 2025 saying that enhanced security measures had created a safer environment for students to return. FRANCE 24's Clémence Waller reports from the ground.
