Former French prime minister Lionel Jospin has died ages 88. The socialist was the father of the 35-hour work week and civil partnerships for gay couples, among other major social reforms. But he is also remembered for his loss in the first round of the 2002 presidential election against far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen.
