Dalai Lama affirms future reincarnation will uphold tradition

The Dalai Lama confirmed that the Tibetan Buddhist institution will continue after his death, with his successor chosen according to centuries-old traditions dating back to 1587. The reincarnation is identified by senior monks through spiritual signs, a process that begins only after the current Dalai Lama passes. The 14th Dalai Lama, living in exile since 1959, said the search will be managed by the traditional Gaden Phodrang Trust.
