You ever get that feeling when you get a brand new aquarium and you can't wait to get cracking
0:05
Well, today I've got myself this 12 inch by 12 inch by 12 inch cube, 30 centimeter cube
0:11
It holds around 7 gallons, which is about 27 liters, and I cannot wait to scape it out
0:19
At this moment in time, I haven't decided what to put in it. Put some suggestions down in the comments, and in the meantime, let's get scaping
0:30
There was once a day that I would pray for you
0:40
I'd go and misbehave just so you'd notice too Seeking looks up and down from across the room
0:45
Damn, what a hell of a view I feel good, you look great
0:50
I like you, I can't wait Our first time, our first day
0:55
You're so fine, I'm so late You sip wine, I drink straight. Don't waste time to my place. I feel my heart erase. So catch me if I fall
1:08
Okay, so that's the substrate in. So we've gone for fluval stratum because I love planting into fluval stratum and it looks amazing
1:16
It can be expensive. There are cheaper alternatives on the market. But I just love planting. It takes the plant so well. The plant roots grow into it beautifully
1:24
and underneath that as you saw I've put a fine layer of what we here in the UK call seed compost
1:30
it's essentially potting compost that's fairly low in nutrients and I've only put a thin layer
1:36
in there the plants I'm going to grow are mainly stem plants and they want to get their roots deep
1:41
down and when their roots hit that seed compost they will go they will grow bananas
1:54
Just look at the character on that rock. When I saw that rock I had to have it. I thought that's
2:14
gonna be fabulous. Obviously in my mind I thought it would just lay down but when I put it in the
2:20
tank it looked a bit flat so I took it up at about 45 degrees wanting to hold it in place
2:27
and then I thought it just needed the one at the front to finish it off I think that is
2:32
that's just superb I'm really pleased with how that's looking I was going to add some wood as
2:37
well a bit of spider wood but I not sure it needs it you know it does need some greenery let put some plants in
3:13
As you fade away Yeah, I'm about to fade away
3:22
Cause every time I wake up I feel like it's Monday Something's going wrong with all the chemicals up in my brain
3:28
All of a sudden I don't look at anything the same way Gotta build up of my thoughts sitting in an ashtray
3:34
I'm sorry that I'm so inconvenient, okay Just let me be me and I'll stay out of your way
3:40
I can see the way you look at me, I'm such a disgrace I never really asked to be brought into this place
3:46
You wanna love me, well then baby have a taste All the highs and the lows, no you'll never be the same
3:52
I don't really wanna hurt you but I can't control the pain If you're sticking by my side maybe we could be okay
3:58
Okay, okay, maybe you could be the change I need today I promise that I've never felt this way
4:05
I really hope that you will choose to stay through all the pain
4:10
I know you told your friend you're not okay. And tell me what's wrong and why
4:18
Look at that. So that's all our stem plants are in there, all of our tall plants at the back
4:23
Now I love stem plants because with stem plants you can generally take cuttings
4:27
You buy yourself one pot, get it growing. Once it's growing well, you can snip out the top third, replant that
4:34
as it grows up, snip out the top third, replant that. And you can essentially start with a single pot
4:41
and fill your entire tank over time with the one plant just by taking cuttings
4:47
You don't have to be rich to be an aquascaper, you just have to try and think outside the box
4:52
Okay, I'm going to give these a squirt to stop them drying out. Then let's get some foreground planting
5:04
I think I need help, I'm going through hell I fake like I'm fine but I know you can't tell
5:15
Like nothing I've found, my mind overwhelms I think that I'm broken but I know you can't help
5:21
I know I'm not perfect But some days I feel more or more worth it
5:26
Baby you make me feel nervous If I still have you I have purpose It all worth it I know you told your friend you not okay Tell me what wrong and why you never said you felt that way
5:44
I guess you're trying to stay strong and make a smile until I look away
5:50
But I've known you too long, it hurts to watch your blue eyes fade to gray
5:56
As you fade away I cannot tell you how pleased I am with how this has come on
6:21
It's looking superb. I think I'm going to leave this bit at the front. There's a bit of open space
6:26
but I think we need something just in the middle there, just to soften those rocks
6:32
I think I've got a small piece of java foam that's going to fit in there beautifully. I'm going to glue that into place
6:37
so we can think about adding some water. Look at that, how good, that's exactly how I envisaged that
7:24
We've got the contrasted leaf shapes of the hygrophyllas at the back, the Java fern which as that grows will soften that rock slightly but without
7:32
costing the character. We've got the Crips at the front, the Vallecinaria
7:37
absolutely superb, really really pleased. Let's get some water in. So there, that's it
8:06
So I'm not sure I could be any happier with how this has turned out. In the back corner, we've got the Hygrophila Coriombosa
8:13
which will grow up to at least the top of the tank, and if I'm not careful, out the top
8:18
And the same with the Hygrophila Pinafetida on this side Contrasting leaf shapes I think when that back section fills out that going to look superb In front of those I put Hygryphila polysperma
8:30
which again is going to grow tall. If I don't keep it in check, that's going to hit the surface
8:34
That back section is going to completely bush out. The Java fern that I've put on the rocks
8:40
that is also going to bush out. When we get some shrimp in here, that's going to create a haven for
8:45
the baby shrimp to live in. Coming forward we've got the Vallisneria, which truth be told when it
8:52
arrived it wasn't in the best condition but I'm hoping it's in, it's planted, once it gets going
8:57
I think that will come back. There's no way I'm going to bid it now, I'm going to wait and see
9:01
how it does. Here we've got the Crypto-Korini Wenditi green, now that is going to grow quite
9:08
big in time, that will fill out and I'll have to keep that trimmed. Then just at the front we've
9:13
got the Cryptocorini Parva, which again, in time, that would, if I allow it to, that will fill most
9:18
of that space, but it's a slow grower, so that's not going to happen overnight. I'm going to leave
9:22
this tank for a couple of weeks. I'm going to leave it to mature, let the plants bed in, let the biofilm
9:29
start to develop in that tank, and then I'm going to add some shrimp. I don't know what shrimp yet
9:33
I'd love to hear what you guys think I should put in there, and I think these shrimp might need some
9:38
fishy companions. I'm not going to filter this tank, this is an unfiltered tank, I have just
9:43
added an air stone. The air stone creates water circulation, creates movement, prevents any dead
9:50
spots and also gives me surface agitation. I mean there'll be plenty of oxygen for the shrimp and
9:57
the fish to use. I'm really pleased with how this has turned out. Now truth be told, in the next two
10:04
or three weeks this rack is actually going. I've got a new one that I'm building which is going to go in and I'm gonna have four of these in a row. This is number one, two, three, four
10:12
I'm gonna try and make them all completely different. Cannot wait. But for now, let's
10:19
let this tank bed in. Thank you
