Makai Murray, born in 2002, is an American mixed media artist whose work reflects his experiences navigating diverse socio-economic environments. Raised in Brockton, Massachusetts, he attended St. George's School and is currently a senior philosophy major at Tufts University. Murray's art often combines three-dimensional textures with vibrant colors, aiming to bridge disparate communities and provide insight into the different worlds he inhabits. Since beginning his professional art career at 18, Murray has exhibited across Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including a recent show titled "Reflection Before Progression" at the Hunter Gallery of St. George's School. TUFTS DAILY. His work challenges traditional art world economics by offering pieces at varied price points to make art accessible to a broader audience. Despite being self-taught and facing institutional rejections, such as from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Murray continues to gain recognition, with his pieces available on platforms like Artsy through New Renaissance Art Advisory.
