Hey, everybody, this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America
0:04
We're back here on our way to a new year, but the Arizona election is still not over
0:11
Is that true? What's going on? We're going to get right to that. But first, before we get started, please make sure you like subscribe and
0:19
follow us at Explain America on Facebook. Also make sure you leave a comment and absolutely make sure you share this
0:26
But comments are important. We love to read those. We really want to read your comments on this
0:31
Now let's get to the story. As you guys know, Katie Hobbs, the governor elect of Arizona, the Democrat
0:40
was challenged by Carrie Lake, the Republican endorsed by former president Donald Trump
0:46
Now it was about 17,000 or so votes that Hobbs won by, which is pretty
0:50
razor thin in a state like that. And Lake had suspicions. Now she had reasons for her suspicions because a lot of things
0:58
happened in Maricopa County that day. There were printing problems. There were ballot problems
1:03
There were all kinds of issues in Maricopa County, which happens to
1:08
be the largest county in the state. However, at this point, Maricopa County saying, look, we checked everything
1:14
We checked all the facts. We checked the vote totals. Everything's correct. We're all good
1:18
Everything's fine. Katie Hobbs won. Now it is important to keep in mind that the people that are running things in
1:24
Maricopa County are also Republicans like Carrie Lake. So it's not Democrats, you know, helping a Democrat kind of thing
1:30
They are Republicans. And so obviously Hobbs feels secure in her victory
1:36
Lake says not so fast. Now Lake takes her to court and takes the state to court and Maricopa County to
1:43
court, I should say, and, and says, look, we want, you know, here's the evidence
1:47
we have that there was something amiss with this election, something is wrong
1:52
and we want to get it fixed. Now over 200 people submitted statements saying they had problems voting in
2:01
Maricopa County that day and they were given to the judge in the court
2:05
However, the judge said many of those people were still able to vote even
2:10
though they had the issues, but that's a sampling and it doesn't show you how many people actually were turned away and whatnot
2:17
So the judge ruled in favor of Katie Hobbs, the Democrat and Katie Hobbs is
2:21
now officially, well, once they certify it, the governor elect and well, no
2:27
it was certified. I'm sorry. So she's officially the governor elect and she's going to become the governor
2:32
And there's probably not much hope at this point for Carrie Lake
2:36
I'm going to be honest with you guys in terms of her trying to overturn this election defeat
2:41
Uh, however she is, she did make an announcement and her announcement is that she is going to appeal the judge's decision in her words to restore faith
2:51
and integrity in the elections. So she's still going to appeal the verdict
2:56
She still believes she was robbed and she still believes that, you know, there
3:01
was shenanigans in Maricopa County. That's the second time I remember things happening in Maricopa County
3:05
that probably shouldn't have. It doesn't mean there's shenanigans. It doesn't mean something's wrong
3:09
It doesn't mean anything was stolen. What it does mean is Maricopa County has to get its act together
3:14
when it comes to elections. This is unacceptable. Literally two elections in a row
3:18
It can't continue like this because you're creating people believing that something is a miss when you have these kind of crazy things happening every
3:29
election day. So there you have it folks. What do you think is going to happen
3:33
Leave us a comment and let us know. But in the meantime, thank you so much for joining us here today to explain
3:38
