Hey, ladies and gentlemen, this is Carmine's Tabia for Explain America
0:04
and the vice presidential scuttlebutt now happening with Kamala Harris. Well, it's heated up to a new level, and we have an announcement
0:12
Before we get started, please make sure you like, comment, share, and subscribe
0:17
Those little things really help us out, and they help our channel continue to grow
0:22
Vetting paperwork has been sent to several governors, and Kamala Harris will probably
0:29
probably pick her vice president a lot quicker than former president Donald Trump did
0:34
I don't believe she's going to wait until the convention to do it
0:38
That being said, the shocker here is not who was on the list
0:42
And you have, you know, J.B. Pritzker, you have Gretchen Whitmer. You have Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, who's the one that concerns me the most because
0:50
Pennsylvania is an important state. And I would like to not see him picked because Pennsylvania is an important state and he's very popular
0:58
And then you have one particular governor who was left off, and it shocked a lot of people
1:06
That governor's name was Andy Bashir. And I want you to hear what he has to say about it in this clip
1:13
Tell me if he sounds disappointed or maybe the paperwork is stuck in the mail
1:18
Let us know in the comments what you think. And I also want to know in the comments who you think she's going to pick to be her vice president
1:24
I want her to pick Pete Buttigieg because I believe, Harris Buttigieg or even Harris Whitmer, neither one of those tickets has a chance
1:34
But you let me know in the comments who you want to see your pick and why. With that said I am excited to fully endorse the vice president to be the next president of the United States She called me personally just hours after President Biden announcement and I admit that means a lot to me but I not the only one
1:54
10 hours on the phone doing the hard work that it takes to bring together the coalition
2:00
that you see coming around her. There is so much energy. And it's energy because we know her
2:08
We know that she is a strong, and smart person, which will make her a good president, but she is also a kind and empathetic
2:16
person, and that's going to make her a great president. Now, just think about the contrast
2:22
Here's the vice president with empathy, looking out for people versus what's on the other side
2:28
which is just people looking out for themselves. I think you're going to see this energy continue
2:34
and I think the vice president is going to win this race, become the president of the United States
2:39
but most importantly, move us past all this partisan bickering, move us past the constant back and forth
2:46
People are exhausted about it, and she's got a chance to be that next leader that moves us beyond it
2:52
Well, and you mentioned that you were one of the first people that she called. Did she mention anything about having you serve as her running mate, potentially
3:02
Well, I'm going to keep any of the details of that call personal, but what she did is she called and asked for my support
3:09
and I willingly gave it. She talked about having, you know, just months to make sure we won this election
3:18
but wanting to earn it. She said she didn't want a coronation. She wanted to earn it
3:22
And that exactly what I needed to hear that she is going to get out there just like she doing today and make her case to the American people She is the perfect person to prosecute the case against Donald Trump Here a district attorney and a former attorney general like I was that out there
3:41
having represented, having fought for victims of rape and incest, of domestic abuse
3:48
taking on Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, a guy that said when a woman is raped
3:56
and becomes pregnant, it is, quote, inconvenient. Or that women should stay with a domestic abuser
4:04
I mean, that is really wrong. And the vice president is the perfect person
4:09
to contrast that view and how wrong former President Trump and J.D. Vance
4:17
are on those and so many more issues. I know you said you love your job as governor of Kentucky
4:23
but if you were asked to serve as vice president, Would you lean towards saying yes
4:28
I do love my job here in Kentucky. My kids are happy
4:32
We're having record success. We've broken every record for private sector investment, new jobs, exports, tourism
4:40
Recidivism is at a low the last three years. Our drug overdoses are going down for the first time and a long time, which is critically important
4:50
So I love the work that I do. The only reason I'd ever consider something else
4:55
is if I felt that I could help my people in Kentucky more in a different role
4:59
or that there was a chance to move past the partisanship, the constant fighting
5:06
You know, what we've done in Kentucky has turned down the temperature and have everybody, Democrats and Republicans
5:12
focus on those things that aren partisan like good jobs solid infrastructure health care that accessible and affordable to everyone internet access public safety public education
5:25
I just think America and our people are yearning for a time when they're not defined by their
5:32
party where everything from the car they drive to the beer they drink isn't about picking a team
5:37
I think they're just yearning to get beyond this and get back to a sense of normalcy
5:42
But on that race, of course, this is a big question of who is going to be on that ticket with her
5:47
If she is the nominee, there are some people who have already started submitting information for vetting purposes
5:53
Are you one of those people? Have you submitted any information to the Harris campaign? I've not been personally asked to submit information at this point
6:02
Okay. And you and I spoke right after you won re-election. It's a rare thing for a Democrat governor in a very red state like Kentucky
6:09
If you were selected as vice president, and I know we're talking about hyperbo. but it matters. And what would you bring to the ticket as far as appealing to rural voters who may have turned away from your party
6:21
Well, I know how to talk to people on both sides of the aisle. You have to in a state like Kentucky
6:28
And again, it's recognizing that when people wake up in the morning, the things they're worried about aren't partisan
6:34
And they're not thinking about the presidential election. They're thinking about their job and whether they make enough to support their family
6:39
They're thinking about whether they can afford their next doctor's appointment for their parents or their kids or themselves
6:45
They're thinking about the safety of the roads and bridges they drive on that day. They're thinking about their public safety and their community
6:51
And they're thinking about their kids' future, their education and then the opportunities
