Hey ladies and gentlemen, this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America and things are looking
0:06
fantastic for former President Donald Trump. Before we get started, please make sure you like, comment, share and subscribe
0:14
Those little things really help us out and they help our channel continue to grow
0:18
You know, Donald Trump's poll numbers against the rest of the Republican field have been
0:22
skyrocketing for months. There's no one anywhere close to him and the egos of the people that are going against
0:29
him, it seems, well, they're unending. And because of that, their own egos will very likely make former President Donald Trump
0:39
the nominee. At least that's what Hugh Hewitt believes. Let's take a look
0:43
I endorse New Balance wholeheartedly, without a doubt. It is endorsement season
0:50
In fact, we had one on the show last night, Bob Vander Plaats in Iowa
0:54
We're back with our panel, Trey, Steph and Hugh. So Hugh, you speak with the American people every day
1:00
Do these endorsements move the needle? Yes, they do. In Iowa, Bob Vander Plaats is probably the most influential non-elected political activist
1:07
in the United States. Every time that there's a Republican primary there, combined with the governor there, that's
1:13
a big one to punch for Governor DeSantis. But the reality is, if there's more than one contender among Governor DeSantis and Christie
1:23
and Ambassador Haley come South Carolina or Florida, then former President Trump is
1:27
effectively one. They can't go into Florida with more than one candidate
1:32
And Mr. Ramaswamy doesn't really matter in this calculation. If the field doesn't consolidate, I don't see how Donald Trump isn't the nominee
1:40
Let's take a look at the RealClearPolitics average of recent polls in Iowa with President
1:45
Trump, former President Trump, up nearly 30 points over Governor DeSantis. Then there's Nikki Haley
1:52
Tim Scott has since dropped out. But Governor DeSantis has picked up a couple of huge endorsements in Iowa
1:58
Steph, your expectations. Look, I mean, these endorsements in Iowa are huge for DeSantis, who has been struggling
2:06
to gain some momentum back over the past few months. And this is especially important because if you're looking at some of the national, the
2:13
averages of Iowa polls, Nikki Haley has been starting to gain on him in Iowa as well
2:18
And of course, as he points out, this is really a race for second place, a race for
2:23
being the Trump alternative here. And so DeSantis really needs to get out of the park in Iowa if he's going to remain the
2:31
most likely anti-Trump candidate. If the polls are off tray, and that's a big if, we'll see
2:39
And if former President Trump does not have that massive of a lead and DeSantis or Governor
2:45
Haley in your home state of South Carolina pull off an upset, is it game on at that point
2:52
It would if all of those, if all of those hypotheticals were to come true, Mike
2:57
I'm not sure they will. And look, Hugh Hewitt and Steph have forgotten more about politics than I will ever know
3:03
I actually don't think endorsements matter that much. With the one exception, I think President Trump's endorsement matters
3:11
And I don't know this for sure, but I'm pretty sure he's going to endorse himself
3:15
So yeah, Ron got Kim Reynolds, Bob Vander Plaat. Good for him
3:22
I'd rather have them than not. But I don't think it's going to move the needle. He is the prohibitive favorite
3:27
Nikki Haley is rising. If you got one on one early enough, would it be interesting? Yes
3:33
But to Hugh's point, it ain't one on one right now. And until it gets to be one on one, Donald Trump will be the prohibitive favorite
3:41
Hugh, we're nearly out of time, but if there's an upset on the horizon, where
3:45
You see, if they don't consolidate around one person, Trump's base is too strong
3:49
They're not splintering. And if one person is not going against Trump, it's all but over
3:55
I've said that. Hewitt said that. A lot of people have said that
3:58
But there's a fallacy in that as well, because a lot of people believe that if Nikki Haley
4:03
let's just say Nikki Haley drops out, Chris Christie drops out, and it's just Ron DeSantis
4:08
left, that everybody who was supporting Nikki Haley and everybody who was supporting Chris
4:13
Christie is going to run to Ron DeSantis. That's likely not the case. There'll likely be a split between that person and Trump
4:20
And so Trump's still going to win. This is mathematical at this point
4:24
Unless something astronomical happens, this thing's over. And it's going to be Trump versus Biden or if Biden drops out, whoever the Democrats
4:32
put in there. I want to know what you think about this story. Please let me know in the comments
4:36
Do you see this happening? Do you see any kind of race happening with the Republican Party
4:41
Or is the news just trying to make news? Let me know
4:44
