Hey ladies and gentlemen, this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America and Georgia Prosecutor Fannie
0:06
Willis just got rocked by the Republican Senate. Before we get started, please make sure you like
0:13
comment, share, and subscribe. Those little things really help us out and they help our
0:18
channel continue to grow. So the Georgia Prosecutor from Fulton County, Fannie Willis
0:23
you know she's been involved in a lot of scandals. We've compiled a list here. We've
0:28
done so many stories on it because she just keeps finding herself in one scandal after another
0:33
This latest scandal, I mean honestly I hate to be like, hate to use hyperbole, but this really
0:39
could end her career. It could get her in serious legal trouble. Apparently when she went to the
0:45
Georgia Legislature with her budget, she took money from that budget, money that was designed
0:51
for other things, and she used that money in her investigation and prosecution of Trump. Now this
0:58
is a misuse of funds. This is a very serious offense. Misuse of public funds. Misuse of
1:05
taxpayer dollars. Now she finds herself in quite a jam and the Senate, they can't stop her case
1:11
They can't come in and they can't say, all right, all right, Willis, case is over. You know
1:15
we're ending this case. They don't have that legal authority. But what they do have the
1:19
authority to do is stop funding her. If they stop funding her because she's misappropriating funds
1:26
she doesn't have the money to prosecute Trump anymore and that's the end of the case. It's that
1:30
simple. Now they did a report on this this morning and I want you to watch it because again
1:35
this is very serious guys. So take a look at this and then of course I want you to leave me a
1:41
comment. Tell me what you think about it. When you like, comment, share and subscribe. I'm Carmine
1:46
Sabia for Explain America. We love you guys. God bless you. Take care everybody. Right now a Georgia
1:54
Senate committee is holding a hearing to investigate Fulton County DA Fannie Willis
1:59
What for? Well we shall find out from Jonathan Serra. He's live in Atlanta. Hi Jonathan
2:04
Hi there Dana. Republican leaders of this Georgia Senate committee say they're investigating whether
2:08
Fannie Willis inappropriately used any public funds in her DA's office for today's hearing
2:15
They've subpoenaed two Fulton County officials to testify under oath, including Commission Chairman Rob Pitts and Chief Financial Officer Sharon Whitmore. This is the Senate
2:25
committee's second hearing on Fannie Willis. The first one, which took place in early March
2:30
heard testimony from defense attorney Ashley Merchant, who filed the initial motion to
2:36
disqualify Willis from prosecuting the Georgia election interference case against former President Trump and several of his associates. Merchant had argued that Willis's past romantic
2:47
relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade created a financial conflict of interest because
2:54
he took the DA on vacations while earning taxpayer funds from his contract with Fulton County. The
3:00
judge ruled that one of them had to step down from the case. Wade resigned. Willis was allowed
3:06
to stay on, but lawyers for former President Trump and his co-defendants are asking a state appeals
3:11
court to review the judge's ruling. The court has yet to announce whether it will hear the appeal
3:17
Now, the Senate committee that's holding today's hearing, it does not have any power to prosecute
3:23
but it can make recommendations on how the state allocates funds, including funds to the Fulton
3:29
County DA's office. That meeting expected to get underway in just a matter of minutes. Back to you
3:34
Okay, Jonathan Sari in Atlanta. Thank you. The judge is highly conflicted. He should not be allowed to be the judge of this case
