The McLaren 720S GT3X is not your ordinary racing car

In fact, it's not a racing car at all. Neither can it ever be driven on the road

Instead, it's an experiment into the possible. A car that costs £720,000, that has 740 bhp, weighs just 1,210kg, and there will only ever be 15 examples built

We had a go in it recently around the fearsome Navarra circuit in northern Spain

to see just how far McLaren has pushed the boundaries. So we're talking about a seriously rare piece of kit here

However, when they chuck in kits to something like this, and it's a beautiful sunny day in northern Spain

And it's got this multi-stage traction control as well. I've got it on a friendly-ish setting

They might also accuse it of being a car without purpose. But in truth, it's a whole lot more than that

because if nothing else, it provides a mobile test bed for all sorts of good stuff
