The Huracán STO is the ultimate V10 Lamborghini, increasing focus to rival the likes of McLaren's 765LT and the upcoming 992-generation 911 GT3 RS. Jethro Bovingdon finds out how it fares around Italy's Vallelunga Circuit. https://linktr.ee/evomagazine Read the full review online: https://www.evo.co.uk/lamborghini/huracan/204068/lamborghini-huracan-sto-2021-review-ultimate-v10-lambo-aims-for-mclaren Follow us: https://twitter.com/evomagazine https://facebook.com/evomagazine https://www.instagram.com/officialevomagazine/ https://www.tiktok.com/@evomagazine?

What a noise
0:09
What a noise! So I wonder if you can guess what I'm driving today
0:15
Yes, it is the Lamborghini Huracan STO. I've been waiting to drive this car or a car like it for so long
0:24
This is a road racer that's inspired by the Super Trofeo and the GT3 cars
0:30
Some things are familiar, most notably that amazing B10 engine, which I adore, but everything else is turned up to 11
0:37
It's lighter, there's more aero, there's so much detail on this car that we can go into
0:42
But the number one detail is that it's a hardcore Huracan that is rear-wheel drive only, which just makes my heart sing
0:52
So this is it, a Huracan with the focus of a GT2 RS or McLaren LT
0:57
By adopting a new front clamshell made entirely of carbon fibre and carbon panels everywhere save the roof and door skins, plus thinner glass, the deletion of the four-wheel drive system, lighter wheels and a strip-bear interior, the STO weighs 1,337 kilos dry
1:14
That's 43 kilos less than a Huracan Porfimante, but a significant 108 more than the featherweight 765LT
1:24
Power is way down on rivals too, although 631 horsepower at 8,000 RPM should be plenty
1:31
especially in combination with much greater aero efficiency and downforce. With the rear wing running its most aggressive of three settings
1:39
the STO produces 420 kilos of the stuff at 174 miles an hour
1:45
It'll hit 193 all out too. Good numbers, but the STO isn't really about numbers
1:51
This is Vallelunga in a Lamborghini Huracan STO. So let's talk about the really good things
2:04
As usual, the engine and gearbox, I almost feel like we don't need to talk about those
2:10
You can hear it for a start and also we been banging on about this V10 forever And the gearbox is fantastic People go on and on about PDK and it brilliant
2:27
But Lamborghini do something really special with this twin clutch box. I just love how seamless it is when you're loaded up in the corner
2:38
and then it just gives you a little kick on the straights
2:41
So good. But forget the engine and box for a while. Because they're a given, basically, aren't they, with this car
2:54
This car is about a rear-wheel drive for a can that isn't the base model
3:02
That allows itself to have the bite and the edge. and the excitement that normally are the reserve of the GT cars from Porsche or cars like the
3:20
Speciale and Pista. And I'm here to tell you that on first impression of Vallelunga, oh my god
3:30
listen to it, they've really done something different with a car. The steering is fixed
3:37
ratio, none of that dynamic steering stuff. It's very light, but it's quick
3:48
And it gives you just enough messages. I'm not going to say it's like a 911
3:55
But it gives you enough. But more importantly, the balance. Not only is it well balanced
4:00
not only is there less understeer than we found on previous versions of the Lambo
4:07
But it feels like you're in control of the car. Finally, there's an adjustability, which I found in the Evo rear-wheel drive, even the
4:19
base car. But that car didn't have the sharpness of some of the rivals
4:25
This one does. This one they given it the sharpness and also the delicacy scene you don normally say that about a Huracan somehow They got a very different feel to Ferraris and Porsches
4:42
But this one feels so fluid. And it's pretty unfashionable to launch a new supercar with only 630 horsepower, isn't it
4:52
But it's enough. It really is enough. This thing is quick. It sounds incredible
5:03
It has the throttle response to absolutely... It just reminds you how good normally aspirated engines are
5:11
Yeah, for me, the biggest and most exciting thing about it is just the balance of the car
5:20
It always has the ability to tighten its line with the throttle
5:26
It doesn't feel super sharp in a sort of artificial sense, which sometimes Ferrari's can with that unbelievably quick steering they have
5:41
It's just really good fun. Predictable, balanced, quick, good traction. I said to Reggiani, it's like finally taking the cork out
6:01
And now we have the Huracan the way I've wanted it to be for a long, long time
6:11
I am very happy to report that the STO, on track at least, delivers
6:16
It's sharp yet forgiving and little sensitive tweaks. for example reprogramming the throttle response to be much more linear have injected a laser
6:25
accuracy to the experience. In Trofeo mode it really does feel every inch arrival for the 765LT
6:33
and yes I did disobey orders and have a small play with the ESC turned off and I wasn't the only one
6:39
I hope you can see the instructor ahead He is a good lad
6:55
He's a really good lad. Twin drifting. On the launch of the STO
7:05
I mean, that's Lamborghini, isn't it? And they've always let their car be too buttoned up
7:10
because that's the spirit of Lambo. But now we're going to have a lot of fun
7:14
But now we're seeing it. So I guess if we can sum up the STO
7:19
I haven't driven it on the road yet, so you always have to have a little bit of margin
7:27
because you can never be sure that it will 100% translate. Although it's harder and faster
7:35
to me the most important thing is it's more delicate, more progressive, more playful
7:44
it's fun it's really fun so that's it my time with the STO and Valladolingha racetrack is over
7:56
it's been a good day out as you may have gathered I really like this car and I love how it's as
8:02
much about the sensational chassis as it is the life-affirming engine no excuses no ifs
8:08
buts or maybes the STO is the real deal That was cool
8:19
Don't turn off the drive control, they said. And then they're like, but you can if you really want to
8:24
That was really fun. Yeah, this thing's, like I say, doesn't do the headline figures, but
8:31
who cares? What a noise. And what a refreshing take on it
8:41
Like, who cares if it's got 800 horsepower? We've just finally done what the hurricane should be all about
8:48
It's taken a long time, but it was worth the wait. That was cool
