Hey guys, it's Gail with Everything
0:02
Nash. Back again with Weey Jennings. We
0:04
love you, right? We love you. You have
0:07
been so good to us and I love every time
0:09
I get to talk to you.
0:10
>> Well, it's always good to see you. How
0:11
you been?
0:12
>> Good. Baptized by Fire. Talk about it.
0:14
>> Oh, it's our new album and uh I've done
0:16
a lot of work since I seen you last.
0:18
>> Yes, you have.
0:19
>> Got to ride with some really cool people
0:20
on this one and we come up with uh I
0:23
think the best album I've ever put out,
0:25
honestly. Um, it ain't as rock and
0:27
country as I've usually put out, but
0:29
it's got so much depth that it scares
0:32
me, you know? It's like something that
0:35
I'm It's vulnerable feeling, you know?
0:37
It's kind of a hope people like it kind
0:40
of a thing cuz it's totally different
0:41
than anything I've ever put out. So,
0:44
>> you said that people will know you by
0:46
listening to this album, which I find
0:48
really interesting.
0:49
>> It's true. It's true. It's got my life
0:52
experiences in it, man. We've all been
0:55
ups and downs, you know, gone through
0:57
the darkness into the light kind of a
0:58
situation, you know, but, you know, I
1:00
got a lot of love in there. I got a lot
1:02
of heartache in there. I got a lot of
1:04
faith in there. I got a lot of pain
1:06
through faith in there. And then at the
1:08
end, you know, you're baptized by fire,
1:10
you know? And that's when you come out
1:12
like a phoenix out of the ashes, you
1:14
know what I mean? It's like it's a
1:17
it's a I don't know how to explain it. I
1:20
just hope everybody listens to it and
1:22
you let me know what you think of it.
1:23
>> I love it. Um, give me the story behind
1:25
the song.
1:26
>> Baptized by Fire. Um, I wrote it with
1:28
Jim Moose Brown and David Wade. We went
1:30
over to the Moose Lodge and uh, which is
1:32
what he calls his recording studio. And
1:34
I walked in there just nervous. Really,
1:36
really nervous. I was like, "This is
1:37
going to be a mountain of a man. He's
1:39
written all these hits." And I walk in,
1:41
he's like, "How you doing? You want a
1:42
bottle of water?" I was like I was like,
1:45
"Yeah,
1:47
you're human. Good." Haha. And we sat
1:50
down. We wrote a couple songs together
1:51
and they just sort of came out of us. I
1:53
mean, at one point he got up and left
1:55
the room and I thought he hated it. And
1:57
so I was like, "Oh man." So I walked out
1:59
there and I was going to leave and I
2:00
looked over in the studio back there and
2:02
he's just pacing back and forth rubbing
2:04
his head like this and he come back with
2:06
some of the best lines in the in the
2:07
song. So yeah, it was an awesome
2:10
situation. Uh but it's a song that we
2:12
dip back into my childhood on. I speak
2:14
of my mama's Bible in there
2:16
>> and you know the sun breaking the trees.
2:18
It's just it's uh how I feel about life
2:22
these days. You know, give your life to
2:24
God and let him take the wheel. You
2:26
know,
2:26
>> I love that. When you started releasing
2:28
music, you were not yet sober. So, talk
2:31
about releasing music now as a sober
2:33
person.
2:34
>> Uh it's a lot better now. You know, it's
2:36
more authentic. It's more real. You
2:38
know, I I sing about things that I want
2:40
my kids to hear. You know, I was talking
2:42
to Jason earlier. I was like, I look at
2:44
everything through the lens of a father
2:46
now, you know? Used to I wanted to be
2:48
this wild crazy guy, the craziest guy on
2:50
Music Row, you know? Uh, now I'm just
2:53
like, I want that guy to stay away from
2:55
my kids, you know what I mean? I wanted
2:57
to be able to be,
3:00
you know, a familyfriendly kind of
3:01
anybody can listen to my music kind of
3:03
guy, you know? So, I kind of walk the
3:07
line on that, you know. I go as dark as
3:09
I possibly can without it being too dark
3:11
for families to listen to.
3:13
>> Um, speaking of kids, congratulations.
3:16
>> Well, thank you.
3:17
>> You another baby.
3:18
>> Yeah.
3:18
>> How many is this?
3:19
>> That's seven.
3:20
>> Seven. Seven. How's that sweet baby?
3:23
>> She's doing really well. She's growing
3:24
like a weed. She was really tiny when
3:26
she was born. I could hold her just like
3:28
this. My wife handed her to me and I was
3:30
like,
3:32
"Take her back. I don't want to break
3:33
her."
3:35
But yeah, uh she's a wonderful little
3:37
girl. Her name is Jesse Ray
3:39
>> and uh we're very blessed. Yeah.
3:41
>> Uh touring, you have seven kids and you
3:44
still spend a lot of time on the road.
3:45
Talk about touring this year.
3:46
>> Uh touring is going to be wild this
3:48
year. We got all kinds of cool stuff
3:49
coming up this year. We're playing CCMF.
3:51
We're playing uh we got a residency at a
3:54
casino out in Laughlin. We got uh all
3:57
kinds of cool stuff. Look at my schedule
3:59
on way Jennings.com and you'll find all
4:02
kinds of cool stuff we're doing. We're
4:03
coming to a town near you. Make sure you
4:06
come out to me.
4:08
>> You heard it from Weey. Can you talk
4:09
real quick about your evolution? We've
4:11
talked to you when you've released other
4:13
projects. This is your second full
4:15
album.
4:15
>> Second full album.
4:16
>> Okay. Um talk about your evolution.
4:19
>> Uh my evolution went from uh craziness
4:23
that wasn't that great to less
4:25
craziness. it was okay to sober that was
4:29
still kind of shaky. If you look at it,
4:31
it's like from
4:33
now I'm pretty comfortable in what I do,
4:34
man. So, I'm feeling good about the
4:36
music I'm putting out now. So, I feel
4:38
really good about my last album and
4:40
really good about the EP before that and
4:42
I feel good about it all. It all has its
4:45
place in my catalog, but I feel more
4:47
comfortable now and more confident in
4:49
the music I'm putting out now than ever.
4:51
>> Okay, so touring this year.
4:53
>> Yes.
4:54
>> More music. What else can we expect from
4:55
you?
4:56
>> Um, well, if we keep going like I have
4:58
been going, more kids.
5:03
>> Well, we will talk then.
5:04
>> Yeah. Yeah, sounds good. Weey Jennings
5:06
friends have a good
