Named after the renowned Scottish engineer and physicist William John Macquorn Rankine, this scale is an absolute temperature scale used primarily in thermodynamics. It is closely related to the more commonly known Kelvin scale, but with a different zero point. While the Kelvin scale starts at absolute zero, the Rankine scale begins at zero Rankine, which is equivalent to -459.67 degrees Fahrenheit.
